Underwhelming on first listen, but her voice sounds great.

She sounds great (when does she not?), but the song is lame. That dance beat running underneath makes it sound really dated.

My thoughts on this are all over the place. She sounds incredible, and it's catchier than I expected it to be. I get that the lyrics need to be simple to translate to so many languages, so that's fine. But it's hard for me to not hear that this fits right in with Piece By Piece, which is a step back for her, musically--literally and figuratively. I know I need to accept that Kelly's brand is empowerment and she will always want something like this, but that's what I thought was so special about "Love So Soft" and Meaning of Life as a whole. was that it was such decided progression, something different, which songs that legitimately bordered on "cool." This is decidedly not cool. ...but...BUT: this is really magical to me rn. Maybe it's the quarantine and my unhinged emotional state but this really brings the totality of the project into clarity for me, to say nothing of the work Kelly put into this. The problem I have with artists, and Kelly in particular, going for more generic singles is it feels easy, or resting on laurels, or even lazy at times. This is definitely not any of that. That this was her vision for the song is also amazing, and better clarifies what she sees in it. I almost wish they had recorded it like this and this was the official version. Has any mainstream artist ever done anything like this? It's so uniquely perfect for the moment. I've been listening to it on repeat and it's growing on me. Knowing it was ultimately a song to promote the now non-existent Vegas residency, and not the lead single for the next album, makes it all make more sense to me. So yeah, not her best song, but a very cool, important project, and a job well done.

She is just awful.
Time and time again, I've tried to give Kelly Clarkson the benefit of the doubt... first with AIEW, then with Stronger, then with PBP, then MOL and now this. Every time, without fail, she delivers the same level of material. She makes the most fucking uninteresting, PLATITUDINOUS music you'll ever hear. It's not even that it's shitty; it's straight up ho-hum. Totally disproportionate to her vocal talent.

This is nice on the first listen but I agree that it's underwhelming.

New single by Kelly Clarkson, written by Natalie Hemby, Laura Veltz, and Ben West and produced by Jesse Shatkin.
First impressions I had were Avicii production and gay anthem. Is this being pushed to pop?

I echo a lot of the same sentiments here. It’s cute, she sounds great, but it’s kind of boring etc etc. She always has some absolute gems on her albums though, so fingers crossed.

This isn't for the album (though it wouldn't surprise me if it ends up on there, at least as a bonus track); it was originally intended to promote her Vegas residency, and then it seems they decided to push through with the release regardless given the timeliness of the message. This is a relief to me--in terms of her next album, I want a progression from Meaning Of Life, not a Piece By Piece retread (even a good one).

This ain't a writing class, you don't need to go to a thesaurus to create a post here. I'm sure the majority of posters here have never even heard of this word, no need to shout it at them either.

Equally no need to shame someone for having a vocabulary. Besides, someone's clearly just cranky their stimulus check hasn't arrived yet.

I was more or less shading them for a peculiar word choice randomly stylized in all caps because it seemed to reek of "look at me and my fancy words that makes my opinion more important." Especially in the middle of a paragraph with cursing and phrases like "ho-hum." Like I don't even disagree that this track is lackluster or that Kelly has a track record for underwhelming from time to time (not nearly as much as the poster is implying, but still), it's just the way it came off was... well, you said it, cranky lol.

This turned out to be exactly the message I expected from the title. I love it, the second verse especially ("They're too broken to know what they put you through" is another way of saying "They know not what they do.") I hope the new album doesn't take too much longer now.

So is this a lead single? I like it well enough. I don't think I'd listen to it on repeat or anything but I wouldn't change the station if it was on either.

I mean, I get we all have our different likes and dislikes, and that is not the issue. It's the blanket false narrative that her music is all the same, middle road and uninteresting. Like her last album didnt resemble her first album and her first album didnt resemble her 3rd album..etc. Kelly beyond having a fabulous singing voice also has an ear for melody and emotional content. I disagree she is uninteresting. I dont mean to start a stan war but Miss bronzer ponytail makes the same faux urban pop songs over and over again and we all go YASSS queen. How come we never ask her to be "interesting"

way too vanilla. Like "Fight Song" vanilla. As vanilla as say, any of Katy Perry’s biggest hits? 😉 While even I semi-agree, vanilla or not, I think it’s a true testament to her staying power that she’s able to put out a song and it goes to No. 1 even on iTunes, 18 years into her career. This song is a total gay + #MomPop anthem!

When is the last time she stayed on top of iTunes for three straight days? Piece by piece I think?

In all seriousness, I know iTunes isn't the powerhouse it used to be (obviously) but where does being No. 1 on iTunes get you on the Hot 100 these days?

When is the last time she stayed on top of iTunes for three straight days? Piece by piece I think? Either that or technically it was probably that little lullaby she did with Hoda, “I’ve Loved You Since Forever” from 2018. It went to No. 1 for 2-3 days I believe.
