TRUMP JUST GOT IMPEACHED!!! (YES, THIS IS TOTALLY RELEVANT TO THIS WEEK'S HOT 100 THREAD). Happy for you guys and glad republicans (well, the ones that voted yes) finally came to their senses. Now if only that'd happen in my country Not a single Republican voted yes. And for good reason, because the whole case was completely partisan and worthless.

No actually this is relevant to the hot 100, one of the people who voted for impeachment was none other than US representative DaBaby

Maybe Billboard just needs to do away with βthe inverse point systemβ when they are tallying year end/decade end songs. Christmas songs may seem bigger under an inverse system. But generally, this is a very weak time of the year isnβt it? βRockin Around the Christmas Tree,β with the points itβs getting now is able to be in the top 3, but If this was June, those points probably wouldnβt even get it to #8, am I correct? So let these Christmas songs have their few weeks in the top 10 every year, but the point totals in the long run arenβt going to add up with the point totals of say, βUptown Funkβ or βShape of You,β so it can become very problematic and inaccurate for Billboard to continue using an inverse point system to tally hits when this is clearly the weakest time of the year. You're seriously calling this "clearly the weakest time of the year"? This is probably the first winter in forever where the charts were this weak. Last year, AIWFCIY had more points than it just did this past week during the Christmas week, but it had to compete against Thank u next and Without Me. And the year before, you had Rockstar and Perfect tallying about 45k+ points. The year before that? Closer and Black Beatles with even more points. And before that, Hello and Sorry with 60k+ points. The point is, you can't just generalize a song's chart run and say "oh the song's chart run is obviously better than its actual real point performances" when it is charting in multiple eras and only one of them is a weak era. Nor can you assume that just because this is the weakest time of the year one year means that it is the case for every other year. Thanks for the insight! So If this is in fact a βweakβ year and Xmas songs are charting higher because of it, what makes everyone assume in coming years Xmas songs will peak this high with those point totals? That is of course, if those point totals are maintained. We really donβt know. I still argue that the inverse point system should be done away with.

If Billboard doesn't change anything, expect the GOAT list to have an all Christmas top 25 or so before too long. I don't think tastes will change, people have been listening to xmas shit every year its just streaming making an impact on the charts. Other songs would have no chance, especially with recurrent rules that xmas songs are seemingly immune to.

So what if Xmas songs get so-called longevity records? At least they are really earned - on all three metrics + they also generate pure album sales - both the parent records and compilations.
Frankly, it's more appalling that Glee holds the record for most chart placements! At least until Drake breaks it. I won't go into the features credit.... I'm sure we'll have that debate soon enough.
I think it'll be more interesting if radio starts to adjust Holiday playlists to more closely match streaming/sales. For example, Feliz Navidad was the #2 Xmas song on radio, but when all metrics are merged it's was the 9th highest on H100. I'm sure there are other variances and watching whether more 'recent' songs like UTT start to stick and pass some of these 'classics.'

Other songs would have no chance, especially with recurrent rules that xmas songs are seemingly immune to. Year/All-Time charts are the only things I have a problem with as Christmas stuff comes back every year. Like that guy said I don't want the entire all-time list to gradually fill up with Christmas music until by 2030 the entire top 10 is Christmas. I really hope they readjust the rules Maybe the value of points gradually goes down with the number of weeks on the chart? For example, a song with 2 weeks on the chart with 200 points would be weighted as 200 points, while a song with 52 weeks on the chart with 200 points would be fractioned, so that it would end up with 150 points or 125 points. Easy way for the charts to stay fresh. If it's mixed with a removal of the 25/52 rule I could see overall positives for the chart

^ I think a better and more simple idea is to just remove them all instead of messing with the points like the UK chart

That would mess with the points, though, since songs would unfairly not be earning any. Β―\_(γ)_/Β―

On the Hot 100, yea sadly they wouldn't be earning any points. But on the Holiday 100 they can earn all the points that their hearts desire its a win win situation

A hundred years from now, the debate of whether or not holiday songs should be on the charts will still be going on Heartless for number one again, please.

Why are people so obsessed about a thing that might happen in ten years time but most likely not.
If AIWFCIY, for instance, spends 4-5 weeks in top ten each year, it would take 6 years to be even in competition to longest running top ten hit and by that time all Sunflowers of the 2020s have reached 40 weeks in top ten anyway.

Over at Billboard, the chart managers were suggesting that AIWFCIY could topple 19 weeks at #1 by 2023. I'm not kidding - they are promoting that possibility.
That gives some insight into their current feelings regarding Christmas songs on the chart in the next half decade.

What annoys me about this whole discussion is how so many people think the chart should be less accurate just so they can be happy. This really is 2019 America, where facts are inconvenient.

The argument wouldn't exist if recurrency rules were done away with tbh. If Billboard is gonna manipulate the charts for shallow reasons (keeping them "fresh"), it's no surprise that other people will suggest the same thing for their own reasons. Unfortunately, that's not gonna happen, so the argument will persist every year.

This i my exact problem with BB Hot 100 from one side i see why they implemented such rules, but from the other side they are bulls**t and should be removed.
If Baby Shark is among the 100 most popular songs in the US for 3 straight years, then it should chart for 3 straight years(156 weeks and still charting) who cares !
If Shape of You was among the 50 most popular songs for 2 years from its release, then it should have spent 2 years (104 weeks) in the top 50.
If All I Want For Christmas Is You re-enters the chart each holiday season the next 20 years straight and spends on average 2 weeks at the top spot (40 weeks at #1). Then it should hold the record for most weeks at #1.
On the BB200 we have an album "The Dark Side of the Moon" that has charted for more than 18 years, and there are more than 20 albums that have spent 5+ years on the chart but i don't see anyone complaining. You can say that album #45 "sold" more than album #46 (moved more units) and that album #45 is the 45th biggest album for the current week, you can't say the same thing for the Hot 100.
The rule was meant to make the charts fresh and give space for newer artists/songs. -What is this a charity? Why do we even have the bubbling under when there are reccurency rules for the Hot 100. Doesn't this chart feel useless now?
inb4 someone says that if they remove the rule the charts will be stagnant and radio will drop songs even slower, so there would be barely any movement on the charts. I will ask again is this some type of charity ? ? Is every song supposed to chart ? Is every artist supposed to have a #1 ? Is every noname supposed to have a top 10 ??
Billboard are being mother to one child and stepmother to the other child. They either need to start being a mother to both children, or being stepmother to christmas songs too.
