FS2020 is a total banger for me, what do y'all think? Love the early-mid 2000s techno sounding beat

Looking at the chart success of ROXANNE is baffling. When was the last time a relative unknown hit the Top 10 and had immediate success in numerous countries without a featured credit from an established artist and without a music video or visual for that matter? Even Old Town Road debuted at #83 before rising and Ransom debuted at #93 but Roxanne debuted in the Top 40!

Anything is possible in the TikTok era. The only thing I can say for certain is that the amount of one hit wonders we see per year is about to increase dramatically.

It feels though that TikTok hasn't made a huge of a splash as vine or Glee did in making songs huge. Taking a look at the year-end for 2019, it seems like the only TikTok songs to become hits were My Type, Envy Me, The Git Up, Thotiana, Truth Hurts and Old Town Road. A lot more of them seem to only crack the bubbling under charts and when they do hit the Hot 100, they don't make a big splash.

It didn't really blow up until 2018 and it's already launched two record breaking length #1s: "Truth Hurts" and "Old Town Road." Not to mention there have been other songs to see boosts thanks to Tik Tok memes like "bad guy," "You Need to Calm Down," "All I Want for Christmas Is You," etc. Tik Tok is still growing too, and at a rapid rate. It's only a matter of time before Tik Tok gives us its own Shawn Mendes.

Tik Tok has been installed over 1.5 billion times worldwide, with more than 600 million installs this year alone. The reported US installs of Tik Tok are over 123 million. That's more than the weekly radio audiences songs are getting.

Just checking the newest US Spotify chart from yesterday, makes me think Harry Styles should manage somewhat of an album bomb, since the lowest song there managed 960k streams. A lot will depend on how well the streams hold up during the remainder of the tracking week.

A lot will depend on how well the streams hold up during the remainder of the tracking week. His lowest track is around what Taylorās lowest track did. That debuted in the 90s even though the album was front loaded. Harry could be more front loaded, but the weaker chart overall might allow all his tracks to chart.

But i want this to chart so that spectrum pulse can talk about this š Isn't it why we all secretly root for the trash songs to chart? š The utter shredding of Lil Dicky's "Earth" and "Freaky Friday" remain iconic to this day. And then we root for them to stick around long enough so they can make the infamous Worst Hit Songs list.

It didn't do massively well because it wasn't exactly radio friendly (especially the intro), but 400+ million streams are indicative of popularity.

Usually songs would get small iTunes boosts when they were used on the show, but that's it. I don't think there was ever a non-hit that became a hit because of Glee. As for Vine and Tik Tok, they are very popular with a specific demographic, but completely pass everybody else by (unless you live with someone from said demographic in which case you will probably hear about it all the time, despite never actually using it or really knowing what it is). The same as something like Fortnite, for example. Tik Tok seems to be mostly used by literal children (well, teenagers), and I think those who are 18+ don't use it anywhere near as much. Maybe Vine seemed bigger at the time because we were all younger so we were closer to its main demographic.

Pretty sure "We Are Young" hit #1 after being used on Glee - wasn't the Glee version a top 20 hit before the original blew up? I wasn't following the charts back then, so I could be wrong (cba to check now).

Iām only going based on memory, but I donāt think āForget Youā was that big of a hit before Glee got a hold of it. Maybe my memory is wrong; but, I think it was after that (Gweneth Paltrow) performance that the song skyrocketed.
