On AT40 this week, we took a look at the 40 biggest hits of 2019!
Starting with the highest debut of the year going to Taylor Swift with "ME!" featuring Brendon Urie. The track debuted at #10 back in May, making it the first Top 10 debut since another one of Taylor’s hits, “Look What You Made Me Do,” back in Sept. 2017.
Post Malone scored the biggest mover of 2019 with "Goodbyes" featuring Young Thug. It hit the chart at #39 and then jumped up 19 spots to #20 in a single week, peaking at #4 and spending 3 weeks there.
2019 saw the return of the Jonas Brothers with "Sucker," and it was that hit that spent the longest time at the top in 2019, 8 weeks total.
The artist that had the most hits this year was Ariana Grande who landed on the chart with "thank u, next," "7 rings," "break up with your girlfriend, i'm bored," "breathin," "god is a woman" and "boyfriend" her collab with Social House.
The longest-running hit was Khalid and Normani with "Love Lies." The track originally debuted back in may of 2018 and then went on to spend a total of 59 weeks on the chart.
And the Top 3 songs of 2019 are, *drumroll*
Coming in at #3 is Panic! At The Disco with "High Hopes," which spent 47 weeks including 4 weeks at #1.
Benny Blanco, Halsey and Khalid claim the #2 spot with "Eastside," the track spent 55 weeks on the chart and also 3 weeks in the top spot.
And the queen of 2019 is Halsey with "Without Me," this makes her the first artist since The Beatles in 1964 to hold down the Top 2 spots.

So that means Lizzo's #1 hit "Good As Hell" will take a break and returns January 2020 and remains #1 after counting down Top 40 of 2019 and 2010s era?

Question, does it still has breakouts and extras when it counts down the Top 40 of 2019 this weekend?

I'm sure they will have still extras in order to make the show time out properly, but they haven't had Breakouts during the year-end shows in years.

Yes, the regular and optional extras of the Year-End show are the songs which hit the chart that year, and either (a) slightly miss the Top 40; (b) most recent hits, such as recent #1 hits, which could not receive enough points by the cut-off date of mid-November; (c) impressive, or likable smaller hits, or (d) condolence song by or for the artists who passed away.

"Shallow" is an extra after #28. "All My Friends" is an extra, likely in the 17-14 segment. I'll update this when I know.
Update: "All My Friends" is an extra after #14.

It looks like this chart matches Mediabase except, strangely, in the 40-37 segment.

It's amazing that Post Malone's highest charting song this year only peaked at #4 and Khalid has the most songs in the survey, 5.

I'm listening to it right now on iHeartRadio. Here are some of the highlights:
"You Need To Calm Down" won the VMA for Video of the Year.
Dean Lewis was the biggest Australian act of the year.
Ed Sheeran had the biggest tour of the year.
"Old Town Road" is the shortest song in AT40 history and the top seller of 2019, certified 10 times platinum.
"Shallow" won the Oscar for "Best Original Song"; after debuting in 2018, it fell off the chart and re-entered.
"Me!" was the highest debut of the year, coming in at #10.
Ariana Grande had 8 Top 40 hits in 2019.
"Love Lies" ended a 59 week run in 2019, the longest running hit of the year.
Billie Eilish was the first singer born this century to have a #1 hit.
AJ Mitchell was the youngest solo male artist to have a hit this past year.
"7 Rings" spent 5 weeks at #1, the most for any song in 2019.
"Lover" is the top selling album of the year.
Ryan named the Top 5 movies of the year before playing "Sunflower" from "Spider-man Into the Spidey-verse."
"High Hopes" was the #1 alternative song of the year.
Halsey has the Top 2 songs with "Eastside" and "Without Me"; in good company with Elvis (1958) and The Beatles (1964).

"Sunflower" is the only song in the top 10 that didn't peak at #1, which is quite amazing.
Great list.

"7 Rings" spent 5 weeks at #1, the most for any song in 2019. This is actually a mistake that Ryan made. Sucker spent 8 weeks at #1.

It looks like this chart matches Mediabase except, strangely, in the 40-37 segment. It's an exact match to Mediabase. I posted the actual year-end top 50 on page 2 of my year-end chart thread. My projections on page 1 started to deviate from the actual numbers around #36.

"7 Rings" spent 5 weeks at #1, the most for any song in 2019. This is actually a mistake that Ryan made. Sucker spent 8 weeks at #1. And of the songs included here,”Happier” had 5 weeks at #1 on AT40, aided by two “frozen” bonus weeks at this time last year. (Without that, “High Hopes” would probably have had five or six weeks on top; as it was it topped the countdown for four weeks in January.) Though those were in December 2018 so maybe they don’t count. “Girls Like You” did the same in August/September 2018; it really had staying power to rank at #25 for 2019 as well. (Same goes for “Love Lies” and “Youngblood”, both fall 2018 #1’s for three weeks each.) Depending on if and how long it stays at #1 in 2020, “Good As Hell” could exceed the five week mark; the frozen weeks assure it of at least four. But it charted too late for this countdown. “Sucker”’s eight weeks on top were (IIRC) the most since “Shape of You”’s ten in March-May 2017. It would have had nine in a row had “Dancing With a Stranger” not snuck ahead of it for a week.

Ryan also stated that Close To Me was the only song to peak at #2 all year...he forgot about Breathin.

How did Juice WRLD's "Lucid Dreams" miss out? And why would that not at least be played as an extra? That song peaked at # 6 and spent 30 or so weeks on. That's a better performance than "Easier," "This Feeling," and "Who Do You Love."

Songs that come out late in a year always seem to have a disadvantage on year end shows because they spend half of their chart run in one year and half in another and do not have enough weeks to make either year's show. Although, if AT40 were still doing Top 100s, that song would have definitely made it.

I am extremely happy to see that Sunflower is the only Top 10 finish that did not go to # 1. One of my favorite songs of the year, and my other favorite "Happier," finished one spot higher than it.
I believe "Bad at Love" was the only Top 10 finish last year for a song that did not go to # 1.

Sabrina Carpenter will be your AT40 guest host during the first weekend of 2020. The last time she guest hosted was almost a year and a half ago. Wow, time flies. But...why her? Is there a new song she released or something?

How did Juice WRLD's "Lucid Dreams" miss out? And why would that not at least be played as an extra? If you heard AT40 just last weekend, Ryan played “Lucid Dreams” as an extra and did a tribute to Juice WRLD.
