whoever submitted You Belong With Me ty iโm rooting for you Very interested to see what happens with Taylor. Could easily see it winning but also could see it finishing last. Also shoutout to whomever came up with The House That Built Me....completely spaced that it would be available with the guidelines. Might have been something I would have submitted.

I chose a song that isn't particularly known outside of the country team so it'll be interesting to see how my pick does.

Wow, that list of songs is incredible. Easily the best set of submissions this game has received thus far. Excited to see what happens!

ROUND SEVEN - RESULTSHello and welcome to the seventh elimination ceremony. For this country-themed round, I've invited Mr. fearlessarrow to be a guest judge! Before we start, in an unfortunate turn of event, io has boardicided. As a result, I now declare him temporarily out of the game. I said 'temporarily' because he's boardicided before and came back so if this time he decided to return before the deadline for the next round has passed, I'll allow him to continue on competing. However if by the time the next batch of songs is posted he hasn't come back, he's out forever. I did that because his scores this round would be enough to get him through, and it'll be fair if I let him play again. These are his scores for this round... Johnny Cash - "I Walk The Line"
Sambalada: "Oh girl, that intro is infectious! It really helped in building the overall mood of the song which is exactly what an intro supposed to do. The songwriting here is amazing, it's not an upbeat song but the hook is so catchy. Johnny's vocal performance is impressive too. Still the instrumentation though! They're definitely the song's biggest selling point because those guitar riffs will get you hooked." (9.1) MoD: "Not a bad song at all, but I personally am not feeling it. I think it's a little bit too repetitive for me, although the guitars are nice and the lyrics are sweet, I am not really feeling what Johnny delivers here, his vocals are pretty good but I kind of feel like this goes nowhere." (5.5) Lukas: "Fun and catchy song with great vocals, great music, and great production. The lyrics are also great even if they might not be that varied." (8.3) Fearless: "Looking at the lyrics, this is a really simple song on paper - but at the same time the lyrics are so vague that you could interpret it a lot of ways. As much as I like lyrics that paint vivid details, I also have an appreciation for songs like these that have so many interpretations to them. The multiple key changes and the varied melody in the song is very interesting as a listener too - but the song ties everything together with the โbecause youโre mine, I walk the lineโ line; with the notes going all over the place you would think the song might end up being more of a mess than it is, but itโs somehow really cohesive as a song. Not sure how that happened as Iโm not knowledgeable enough in the music theory field - but itโs very intriguing!! The guitar riff gets stuck in your head after a while too. One personal issue I have with this is when his voice goes too low for my comfort (the prime example being at the end of the song as it fades out) - multiple repeats of that makes the last bit of the song a bit uncomfortable for me to listen to, but that doesnโt stop me from enjoying this song a lot!" (8.8) TOTAL: 31.7 | AVERAGE: 7.925
That score would've put him at 5th place out of 9. IO, wherever you are, I wish everything would be okay in your life. Now back onto the results. There will still be an elimination. The winner is only separated by .3 points from the runner up and the person who came out on top is...JUG!Johnny Cash - "Hurt"Surprised? From being in the bottom two in the very first round to leading on top of the pack six rounds later... that's a true improvement story. You're also the only remaining contestant who never had a downward movement! Congratulations!
Sambalada: "Apparently, this is one of the most acclaimed cover of all time. I can see it. Cash's version is gut-wrenching. He makes the lyrics more alive and the self-aware-ness of it is just beautiful. Imagine hanging on to the last line of your life and the memories of all your sins and goods come flashing by. His vocals are haunting and so fitting with the lyrical content. This song is definitely not meant to be cheerful and candy-flavored. f**k off [redacted]." (8.6) MoD: "This has to be the most touching cover in the history of music. Taking into account that Johnny sadly died shortly after this, it serves as a kind of goodbye to the world from him, and you just have to listen to his voice to realize how much he feels this song, he kind of made it his own. And those guitars also give the song a whole different touch, but they don't lose the rawness and emotion the original had at all, simply beautiful." (9.5) Lukas: "This is a great song. I really liked the vocals here, and how the music fit into this song is great. The production wasnโt amazing but it doesnโt make it worse." (8.5) Fearless: "I think pulling off a cover to this standard is extremely hard - but Johnny Cash really made this his own. His performance on this song is honestly chill-inducing if you listen to it at the right setting. The lyrics are definitely the strongest point of this song for me, so hats off to Trent Reznor for that. Itโs a collection of relatively simple phrases - but that also is really effective at conveying the emotions behind the song. However, Johnny Cashโs performance and the very sparse production really adds to this too! Those elements create a really raw experience for the listener and sucks you in. I will say Johnny Cashโs vocals is probably my least favorite of the artists here (outside of a couple moments in โYou Belong With Meโ) - not generally a fan of raspy voices." (9.3) TOTAL: 35.9 | AVERAGE: 8.975
The second best is...
WALT91! Dolly Parton - "9 To 5" You're on a roll, girl! You were ~this~ close to snatching your third win! Keep it the f**k up!
Sambalada: "Honestly, this song being her biggest hit and not any of her two classics is a head-scratching fact but this song is still sooooo good. She has a lot of personality and she's letting it all out in this song. The fun production is an amazing touch that elevates her performance into something magical. When someone said country music is boring and can't make you pump to the beat, do show them this song." (9.5) MoD: "This is just a really fun song. I don't really love Dolly Parton's songs but this a whole upbeat pop country bop. It is kind of impossible to not get pumped with stuff like that, and that instrumental is really great. I just kinda wished I liked the verses melody more, because they are certainly good but that chorus is just something else." (8.5) Lukas: "It is simply impossible to not be having a good time with this song. The production and the vocals here make this song incredibly enjoyable at the least. For some reason I am not into this song as much as I think I should be, but it still gets a high rating." (8.0) Fearless: "What I love the most about this song is turning the supposed dreary 9 to 5 job and turning it on its head to create such a lively, energetic song! Iโve never seen the movie that this song was originally for, so perhaps Iโm missing some context here, but the irony in just that fact has me shook! I think the lyrics reflect reality for a lot of Americans, and that mightโve been what resonated with a lot of people - after all it was a #1 hit on the Hot 100! Musically, you know I love horns in songs, so I love that - I think it adds energy to the song and contributes to the festive sound of the song. Dolly Partonโs vocal tone isnโt always my favorite (she does not suck by ANY means, she has vocal talent!!) but I think for this song her voice works really well." (9.6) TOTAL: 35.6 | AVERAGE: 8.9
The third best is...
MAYMAN! Taylor Swift - "You Belong With Me" This submission is as predictable as your earlier ones but, hey, it gave you your first top 3! Congrats!
Sambalada: "You know very well this song is pretty divisive but you took the risk anyway. It's actually my favorite Taylor song ever. The lyrics are not at all complex but it's very relatable and it's accompanied with the strong melody the song has. The instrumental is not something unique or out-of-the-box but it does its job well as a complement. Taylor at her best." (9.8) MoD: "I have never been the biggest Taylor Swift fan, specially all her pre-1989 stuff, but this is pretty nice. I am not really a fan of her vocals, but the melody is not thaaat good imo, but it is still really catchy and the instrumental is solid, not a song I would really come back to but a pleasant listen overall." (6.0) Lukas: "Ever since the intro you know youโre listening to a great song. The instrumentation used here is great and I really like the vocals; itโs incredibly enjoyable as well. The lyrics arenโt over-the-top but it definitely does its job here, and the production is solid too. Simply put, itโs definitely one of my favorite songs from her." (9.5) Fearless: "I swear one of you cheated knowing I was the judge, lol!! This is actually the song that had me start stanning Taylor and also started my love for chart-watching and popular music listening in general, so you can see that this song holds a VERY special place in my heart. For that alone I want to give it a 100 million out of 10 but thatโs not fair so Iโll try my best to be fair here. The lyrics are more juvenile compared to everything else on this list, but thatโs understandable since this was originally released when she was 18, so that was very age-appropriate and I think it does a good job of portraying how teenage love can be sometimes. The production definitely leans on the pop side of things (when compared to her other big crossover hit from the Fearless era โLove Storyโ as well) but the songwriting quality is definitely country in my eyes (one of the things country music is known for its songwriting and narration) and I guess you can still hear banjos in there too. The song is strong melodically too, itโs a country pop jam!! Taylorโs vocal performance is lacking in some parts (but also itโs early Taylor soโฆ what did you expect?) especially the start of each verse. Also her VERY audible breath during the bridgeโฆ yikes. I still adore the song to death, so Iโll give it a super high rating, only docking 0.1 points for the technical aspect." (9.9) TOTAL: 35.2 | AVERAGE: 8.8

TRILOGY! Brad Paisley feat. Alison Krauss - "Whiskey Lullaby" Sambalada: "This is such a fantastic ballad. I may have dropped a tear or two listening to this song. The melody complete with Brad's vocal performance is a tear-jerking combination I wasn't prepared for. Then came the female voice and their chemistry is just really really beautiful, and that's understating it. Pop listeners, THIS is how you pull off a duet." (9.0) MoD: "This wasn't bad, but I still have some issues with this though. First, Brad Paisley's voice sounds just like most of the other mainstream country singers, and I definetely dislike that, and this takes me to another issue, because I don't think he fits a song like this. On the other side though, the melody was nice, but what really takes the cake here are the lyrics and Alisson Krauss singing. While not enough to make me completely like this song, they are both amazing, with the lyrics specially being a highlight compared to most country music I have heard." (5.7) Lukas: "This is just great all around. First, the highlight of this song is definitely the lyrics. Next come the vocals; both of these singers here sing great in this track, and it fits with the overall feel of this song. This song was also produced great; it served its purpose all the way through. Definitely the highlight of this entire set." (9.7) Fearless: "Ok someone mustโve known I was guest judging because Brad Paisley is one of my absolute favorite country artists and โWhiskey Lullabyโ is one of his best if not his best. It was my #1 in the Brad Paisley singles rankdown too (that I happened to host as well)! The production fits the song really well, and Alison Kraussโ vocals are just PERFECT - they couldnโt have chosen a better artist to come sing on this song. The narrative in the song is also very well-done, the first verse/chorus coming from the guy and the next verse/chorus being about the woman dealing with the aftermath. A lot of male/female duets tend to sing from both sides but they usually come from the same point in time, whereas this one has a time progression aspect built into it too, which I think is really cool. Some of the lyric changes in the first to second chorus is another little detail that I really like too - they couldโve stuck with a more general chorus that fit both situations, but they decided to go a step further with it. Overall, just an amazing song. Thanks for whoever chose this song and I hope whoever has never listened to it got to listen to it too!" (10) TOTAL: 34.4 | AVERAGE: 8.6

This is where IO would've placed.
Next...
HAMED! Miranda Lambert - "The House That Built Me" Sambalada: "Miranda Lambert is my second favorite country artist ever, only behind the goddess Kacey Musgraves. Like Kacey, she was blessed with the ability to write beautiful lyrics. This song is one of the best to show how talented she is as a lyricist. The reflective mood is very apparent and really touch my soul. Her vocals are just perfect in harmony with the instruments. It's simply a fantastic country song." (9.0) MoD: "As I have said multiple times now, generally ballads are not something I come back to, but this is a really enjoyable song to be honest. The lyrics are great, and although I think the melodies are too slow for me to come back to, they are still super sweet, not really my cup of tea but I definetely get the appeal." (6.5) Lukas: "This song isnโt bad but it doesnโt quite fit my tastes either. The vocals and music used in this song are mediocre and are uninteresting at best, annoying at worst. That said, I did like the songwriting here, which is how this song is still somewhat likeable." (5.0) Fearless: "Sneaky! Its single release was in 2010 but I guess it fits the criteria since the album it comes from, Revolution was released in September of 2009! Itโs still my favorite Miranda Lambert song to this date, I love it so much. I canโt relate to the lyrics a whole lot since I moved around a lot when I was little and I donโt have anything that I consider โthe house that built meโ, but the song still moves me every time I listen to it. โAnd I bet you didn't know, under that live oak, My favorite dog is buried in the yard.โ is my favorite line of the song, I donโt know why, but that line is just so pleasant to me from a melody perspective and really captures the essence of the song - the memories that is held in this particular place and things that the protagonist left behind there. Anyways, that was a side note. Honestly, there are so many lines that pack some punch emotionally in this song, ugh I just love the lyrics in this song!! Mirandaโs delivery and the stripped down production also is very effective at creating the perfect atmosphere for the song to really drive home the lyrics and conveying the pain behind the song." (9.7) TOTAL: 30.2 |ย AVERAGE: 7.55
The last person to escape the bottom two is...
NICK PERKINS! Carrie Underwood - "Before He Cheats" Sambalada: "This song had become Carrie's biggest hit thus far, and for a good reason if I may say. It doesn't showcase the maximum capacity of her vocals but the song is so badass. She sings the lyrics with a really cool attitude. The instrumentation is standard country pop song but because the songwriting is so strong, the song doesn't sound basic."ย (8.2) (7.7) MoD: "When country is a little more blues influenced it's always welcome for my ears. The melody here is really catchy and kinda inspiring lol, definetely the strongest part of the song. The instrumental is cool too, and her vocals are great too, just a solid song." (8.2) (7.7) Lukas: "Okay, I am not going to deny the quality that this song has. While I do find the lyrics and vocals to be good, however, I do find it to be quite uninteresting. The music here just didnโt seem to fit in with the production at all. Iโve tried to get into this song many times but canโt. She definitely has way better songs." (6.0) (5.5) Fearless: "Let me preface my commentary with this - this song kicks some a**!! I think Carrie Underwoodโs vocal performance and the production elevates the song to the next level - I think I would like this much less if not for those two aspects. Carrieโs vocals are powerful enough to carry the energy that this song has, but her delivery also conveys the spite in the song very well - a standout performance from her. The lyrics are a little less impressive than the aforementioned factors imo, but I love how the verses paint a vivid picture of the protagonistโs imagination of what her ex might be doing - I like the specificity in there (โShania karaokeโ, โfruity little drink cause she canโt shoot whiskeyโ etc. not just something like โheโs probably buying her a drinkโ). The melody isnโt exactly my favorite so thatโs what holds it back from being my favorite Carrie Underwood song, but still a VERY strong offering from her." (9.3) (8.8) TOTAL: 31.7 29.7 | AVERAGE: 7.925 7.425
Which means the bottom two is...
BIGFAN & CARRIEIsn't it ironic how the two country posters were in the bottom two on country-themed round? Bigfan, this is your second consecutive bottom two and I hope you understand why. I swear the other judges didn't know who sent what, so this isn't about how they feel about you but rather about the songs you submitted. We're seeing a pattern and we got bored. Carrie, this is your third bottom two now and I got a feeling you don't expect this at all. You're back to where you start this competition, the bottom. Seeing you bouncing around in the bottom was quite fun but last week you did manage to win with a fan-favorite song. Was that just a lucky fluke?
The person who get to stay another week is...
BIGFAN! Reba McEntire & Linda Davis - "Does He Love You" Sambalada: "This sounds like a classic and probably is a classic. The instrumental is just gorgeous, it reminds me like those 80s love ballads. The difference is those ballads are boring as hell, but the twang-y bit on the background makes it a very pleasant tune. And the vocals, oh, these women sound like they were born to sing. I think this is an outstanding track." (8.5) MoD: "Country ballads have never been my favorite music genre, but this one actually wasn't bad listen. Their vocals are pretty good, and although this stuff is not really appealing to me (I find it to be a little bit sappy) this one was more interesting than the rest of these stuff. These kind of instrumental are still a no from me though, they are really uninteresting." (5.7) Lukas: "This was mediocre all around. While none of the qualities this song has - vocals, production, music, etc. - were bad, most of them were definitely mediocre and forgettable. Okay, except maybe the instrumentation, which was somewhat enjoyable, but thatโs about it." (4.8) Fearless: "Now this is more the 90s classic Reba production (as opposed to โConsider Me Goneโ) that Iโm more used to hearing since a lot of Reba songs that I listen to more frequently are some of her 90s classics like โFancyโ and โYou Lieโ. This song has a very interesting theme - two female narrators that are in love with the same man but know that he is cheating on her with another woman which almost sets the song up like a battle/sing off. So for the unique theme alone this song deserves credit. Itโs also a great vocal display for the two artists as well. I sometimes feel like the chorus is drawn out a bit too much - itโs still a very solid song regardless. I didn't factor in music videos in my decision here since that's outside of song quality but the ending to this music video had me SHOOK!" (8.5) TOTAL: 27.5 | AVERAGE: 6.875
You keep hanging on. You were right a couple rounds ago when you said you hadn't had your standout moment. You definitely need one of that to survive longer. Well, you're still safe for now.
Which means...
CARRIE, I'm sorry but you've been eliminated.
Reba - "Consider Me Gone"
Sambalada: "...I guess? I mean it's not bad but it's very basic in comparison to all other songs in this round. Reba's vocals are amazing as usual but nothing else about it stand out, which may be a trouble for you because everyone else is standing out in some way. The instrumental and melody is nice but I'm not excitedly digging them either." (6.5) MoD: "Yep, consider me gone from this song too. Reba can definetely sing, and this song was not bad, but I feel like it was kind of mediocre. I don't think the lyrics nor the melody were all that imaginative, it's kind of a basic country tune, not a bad listen but songs like these don't make me want to keep digging on this genre." (4.5) Lukas: "Sorry, but I did not like this song at all. The vocals here are annoying, thereโs nothing much going on here, and the production doesnโt fit well in the overall aspect of this song. Yeah, nothing stood out at me here." (3.0) Fearless: "This is modern Reba at her best! It deserved to smash like it did - it was a 4-week #1 on country radio at the beginning of 2010. The production is very modern, but you can hear the steel guitar goodness very clearly in the song and this holds its own even when compared to her 90s hits when she was in her prime (and 80s) which most of Rebaโs 2000s output that I have heard doesnโt. Lyrically speaking this isnโt anything special compared to some of the other songs on here, but not every song has to be a lyrical masterpiece. Although โHow about a strong shot of honesty, don't you owe that to meโ line cuts DEEP! The thing I love the most about the song is the strong melody - I love every bit of it (maybe except for the bridge where she goes โconsider me a memoryโฆโ, thatโs probably the only weak link of the song for me and even then itโs not that weak). Itโs such an earworm while being such a quality song. And that last chorus? Epic." (9.9) TOTAL: 23.9 | AVERAGE: 5.975
Looks like you're out of lives. And it's ironic that you left this round considering this, out of all theme, should be the one you excel in. It is what it is, I guess. Thank you for participating! :(

Thanks for letting me be the guest judge this round! You all sent in fantastic songs as you can tell from my scoring - I didn't give anyone below an 8.5 so really great job for sending in such great songs.
Now "Consider Me Gone" got done DIRTY!! I was thinking maybe "Does He Love You" would place last due to it being a slower song and I saw that as potentially being a little harder to latch onto and I wasn't completely wrong since that ended up in the bottom two. With a strong list like this "Consider Me Gone" being eliminated isn't the most surprising thing. But still, a 3 and a 4.5 for "Consider Me Gone"!? Oof...

The IRONY of the name of the last place song is killer
Anywho glad I made out that round cause country isn't my strong point I was lucky that Revolution came out in 09, otherwise my song wouldn't have qualified

Wow @ Reba's "Consider Me Gone" being the song to go out in this round. That's one of her most iconic smashes. Yikes. HAMED! Miranda Lambert - "The House That Built Me"
Sambalada: "Miranda Lambert is my second favorite country artist ever, only behind the goddess Kacey Musgraves. Like Kacey, she was blessed with the ability to write beautiful lyrics. This song is one of the best to show how talented she is as a lyricist. The reflective mood is very apparent and really touch my soul. Her vocals are just perfect in harmony with the instruments. It's simply a fantastic country song." (9.0)
Sam honey... she didn't write the song, lol.

what if it's a foreign language remix of an english song As long as English didn't take up the majority of the song you're good to go. If there's still confusion you can just send your song in the PM and I will decide if it's eligible.
