#32 Gorillaz ft. slowthai & Slaves - Momentary Bliss
Chosen By: willapted33 Points: 327 SD: 10.15290988
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Apparently, the Song Machine project has its ups and downs, but the ups are ups. "Aries" and "Désolé" seem to represent the project at its peak. This song is not too far behind those songs, but it is a bit of a step below all the same. I must stress "a bit", though, I still like this quite a bit. shazam: with the lineup on this song, i thought i'd like it a lot more than i did. it's fun and dancey for sure, but there wasn't much that made me want to necessarily come back to it

#31 Violent Soho - Vacation Forever
Chosen By: Beno Points: 343 SD: 10.79607629
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: This song feels like it's being transported to the modern day from ten years ago, and I wouldn't say that's the worst thing in the world. It reminds me of a far less stressful time, where I didn't have to worry about everything falling apart, either personally or throughout the world. The song itself is decent, but nothing I haven't heard before. shazam: Violent Soho aren't a band i'm very familiar with, but i was a big fan of this! it was super raw and in your face with its energy, a perfect track for the summer time for sure

Ahh that sucks, Vacation Forever was such a banger and the easy highlight of their new album. If you enjoyed this I’d urge you to listen to some of their older albums, these guys are a really solid band.

#40. Dance Gavin Dance - PrisonerTruthfully the song started off kinda ok, than as snagglepuss would say went exit stage left. Aside from the vocals The music wasn't bad, but it was certainly a little too over the top with the emo screemo tones. #39. The Avalanches f/ Rivers Cuomo, Pink Siifu - Running Red LightsThis one rubbed me the wrong way. I can't put it into words, but it just sounded too "indie pretty" for me. I'm guessing that Pink Siifu person added that pretty vibe I couldn't stand? #38. Glass Animals - DreamlandIf the other one sounded "indie pretty" than this one was like something you'd hear as you descending on a cloud to the magic kingdom of elvenkind. I don't like elves. #37. Now, Now - EndaThis was o.k. probably one of the slower jams I kinda found soothing as opposed to coma inducing. I thought you guys would love this? Boy was I wrong. #36. Sum 41 - 45 (A Matter of Time)I knew this would get shot down. I kinda dug it. Not the most melodic for the band, but frantic enough to keep me interested. I thought some of you would enjoy that wanna be Rage Against the Machine vocal tones. I liked the chorus. #35. Bis - Home EconomicsI feel this is what Weezer would sound like if they crashed into the Rentals. Ultra cool 90's throwback sound I was happy to listen to. #34. Hunny - Vowels (And The Importance of Being Me)This is why The Cure no longer release music. Their sound doesn't work in the 2010's. I also have to add that these guys have been releasing singles since early 2000's but just finally felt like starting to release them online. I still think this is a great sounding band. never thought this would split up the ranks this big. I had a feeling you guys would like my other entry much more. I picked it just for you guys. ;) #33. Endless Heights - Cold Hard KissI would have definitely liked this one more if it had stronger vocals. Great music from start to finish. I'm not a fan of these soft male tones. BTW after reading Red 's comment. Did I listen to the wrong song, because "Cold hard Bitch" is the last vibe I got, and I would have put the song in my top 10 if it had sounded that great. #32. Gorillaz ft. slowthai & Slaves - Momentary Bliss"Momentary head F U C K" felt more like it. This is the one song I really didn't like at all. I don't know what was going on, but musically none of this fit together, and the cartoons and noize was more than I could handle. Sat through it once ,and hope to never have to again. Sorry. #31. Violent Soho - Vacation ForeverI feel like I could have been one of the voters to help this one out with a higher ranking, but I just couldn't get into this one. This one lands where it should.

I'm guessing that Pink Siifu person added that pretty vibe I couldn't stand? Pink Siifu sings (or rather, speaks), the bridge (around 2:58 of the video)

also ~ shocked that my other pick outlasted it honestly
the only other track i know from Violent Soho is Covered in Chrome which is an absolute banger, this one i wasn't feeling as much

#30 Billy Talent - Reckless Paradise
Chosen By: janinho Points: 344 SD: 12.0682271 (8TH HIGHEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Oh, hello, "Devil in a Midnight Mass"! It's a bit of a shame, really, because I was enthralled by the direction Billy Talent were going down with "Forgiveness", and this is just...more of the same. I love Billy Talent, so that's not a bad thing, and I'm a big fan of their normal sound, but my expectations were raised with "Forgiveness", and this doesn't match them. shazam: it took me a while to warm up to Billy Talent, but i think i'm finally at a point where i'm cool with them (you can thank Ghost Ship of Cannibal Rats for converting me). this wasn't quite Ghost Ship, but it was solid

#29 Bright Eyes - Persona Non Grata
Chosen By: @bobpatience Points: 354 SD: 10.83901336
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: I did not know that Bright Eyes was making a new album until this was submitted for RMD. I have a bit of a complicated relationship with Bright Eyes (though I do like Conor Oberst), but I've still heard better from Bright Eyes than this. Not bad, but they've made better songs. shazam: Bright Eyes were a band i was all over in high school, and i would've been all over this song too. it's still quite solid, and a nice return for the group

#28 Origami Angel - The Title Track
Chosen By: American Idiot Points: 361 SD: 11.1802222
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: This takes emo to some interesting places. There's some distinct math rock here, for example, and it is absolutely welcome. This is a really, REALLY interesting song. I just wish I got into it more. shazam: i thought the guitar work here was excellent, really cool hybrid of proggy math rock and emo

#27 HMLTD - Blank Slate
Chosen By: @chroniclea Points: 363 SD: 7.700136704 (3RD LOWEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: I was wondering when this band would make an album. Definitely feeling the Pulp vibes with this one, and they are not unappreciated. Also getting some glam vibes here, too, and those are also not unappreciated. I want to revisit this one, because I feel like this is a song that I will like more and more on repeat listens. shazam: this was super super glammy, not something i expected to hear in 2020. however, this is a welcome surprise, i really dug this. i've come back to it a few times already but i think it has room to be even higher on my list with repeated listens

Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Holy crap, this song's groove. That groove is absolutely ridiculous in all of the best ways. Combine that with the overtly sexual subject matter, and I'll be damned if this isn't the sexed up little brother of "Dragonball Durag". shazam: i have been absolutely loving the psychedelic stuff being sent this tournament. this was a really nice addition to that collection, and based off the video thumbnail, looks like the video is as much of a trip as the song

I actually directly discovered Mcbaise from this video. YouTube likes to recommend indie animated music videos to me. The same animator also led me to "Ugo" by Dead Pirates.

#25 MXMS - Salvation Hurts
Chosen By: Geometrical Points: 374 SD: 9.481838596 (10TH LOWEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Man, if there was ever a time for this song to work on Pulse, it's now. This is perfect for the sensitivities of rock Pulse today. So, of course, it finishes bottom half, lol shazam: i loved the synthpop production here, but something subtle about the vocals held this back from me liking it even more. i'm not sure what it is though, but maybe it just needs more listens to click

#24 Best Coast - Everything Has Changed
Chosen By: BlurryKyle (Kyle) Points: 374 SD: 10.61825637
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: I worried this might happen with this band, at some point. I have a very soft spot for Best Coast, but this song was probably coming before too long, where they play it too safe and find themselves becoming everything their detractors say they are. Again, I like Best Coast a lot, but "Everything Has Changed" is basically Best Coast-lite. I didn't think that would lead to it being my 40, but seed 2 was stronger than I anticipated. shazam: yeah even if i still liked this quite a bit, i don't think it's Best Coast's best. as usual Red says pretty much everything i wanted to say lol

#23 Against All Logic - If Loving You Is Wrong
Chosen By: MoD Points: 376 SD: 13.54369148 (2ND HIGHEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: This particular song strikes me as a song that I need to be in the right frame of mind to get into it, but, when I do, it's going to become a song I'm infatuated with. I don't think this time was that moment, but I'm excited to get to the point where it does happen. It's still a good jam, regardless of my mood. shazam: remember when the only songs in these tournaments were songs charting on radio? i love the variety we're getting now! this is yet another slapper from Nicolas Jaar, dude is incredibly talented so i'd recommend his other projects if you liked this
