Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Three Strokes songs released as singles, three wildly different feeling songs. "Bad Decisions" is classic Strokes, while "At the Door" is more art pop and ambient. This is more of a new wave-y song. All three songs are good and distinct from the others, which does make me want to check out their new album more than I thought I would. If I had to pick one of the three, though, it wouldn't be this one. shazam: this is probably my favorite of The Strokes' singles of this era? it's mainly boosted by the outro, which blew me away on first listen. it also just has a cool retro sound that The Strokes have been doing a good job at embracing

Fun fact: the lead singer of Inhaler is Bono's son.

#2 MGMT - In the Afternoon
Chosen By: Red Points: 605 SD: 11.2103101
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: I genuinely can't decide if this or "Little Dark Age" is MGMT's best song now. For some of you, I imagine you're looking at me now like I've grown fifty heads, but MGMT are at their best for me when they grab a hold of their natural dark tendencies and ride them for all they're worth. "Little Dark Age" is my favorite MGMT song precisely for this reason, but "In the Afternoon" takes the aesthetic of "Little Dark Age" and completely winds it down, creating a transfixing and marvelous song in its own right. shazam: aw it was so close :/ i absolutely adore this song, it's MGMT gone The Cure/Echo and the Bunnymen, with plenty of psychedelia to go around. this track just sounds haunted and ominous, it really has that niche gothic atmosphere taken straight from the 80s. just an all around awesome song
#1 KennyHoopla - how will i rest in peace if i'm buried by a highway?//
Chosen By: Butterflies & Hurricanes Points: 690 SD: 4.358898944 (LOWEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: The fact that a bunch of people submitted this song doesn't surprise me in the slightest. Bloc Party feels like the most obvious comparison, but I'm not even sure if that's fully accurate. KennyHoopla is more aggressive and more raw than Kele, it feels like he's going to go off the rails at any moment. It's like if Bloc Party flirted with punk and nailed the landing, instead of only partially landng it. shazam: Mr. Kawaguchi reigns at #1! which honestly came at no surprise to me, this track rules. there's a ton of Bloc Party influence here, and Kenny knows how to work those screams. definitely a worthy winner in this strong seed!

Here we go...seed 1. I'm going to try to make the deadline for seed 1 a hard deadline, because shazam and I will be quite a bit more busy once August begins. With that in mind, we're making the set deadline August 1st. I would not expect any extensions this time, as we need to get seed 1 and then the final done as quickly as possible.SEED 1 Agnes Obel - Promise Keeper Algiers - Void Beach Bunny - Colorblind Bladee f/ Ecco2k - Girls Just Want to Have Fun BLUES PILLS - Low Road Caroline Rose - Feel The Way I Want Chastity - Sun Poisoning Dance Gavin Dance - Strawberry's Wake Dayglow - Can I Call You Tonight? Forgot to mention... I think "Serafina" is my favorite discovery out of all the seeds so far, and while I do still very much love KennyHoopla's song, I'd probably rank the former at #1 today. The song gave me some mad Bauhaus vibes.

What the actual f**k is this top ten? Did caroline polachek give everybody handjobs or something? LOL!. Missed out on the handjob, but she did give me one hell of a vocal job. "Show me your banana a-nana-nana"

#10. The Strokes - At the DoorThis felt more suited for his side project The Voids. While I do like some of the song from that album, I didn't particularly ease into this slower vibe. It's not too bad for Strokes, juts not as epic as "Brooklyn Bridge to Chorus'. #9. U.S. Girls - 4 American DollarsI've seen songs by this group appear on many personal rock forum charts. I go ahead and say that I do love the vocals. The music itself is quite mellow but not boring at all. sounds like AAA wet dream song. Don't have any complaints. I just happen to enjoy 18 other songs more than this one. #8. Bat for Lashes - The HungerHere is a band I haven't heard from for ages. I like this one. It had a sort of Laura Branigan 80's "Self Control" atmosphere to it. The sounds were toned down a lot, but it still very RetroWave. It kinda draws on too long around after the 3:30 part, but it was fine for my top 20. #7. BAMBARA - SerafinaI really love this NRG driven alternative rock jams that seem to have Jim Morrison vocals tones. A little gothic vibe in the melody, but stays true to the garage rock guitars. I really love this song's NRG. Look at all those top 10's. Great call. #6. Inhaler - My Honest Facei knew this would be a PULSE favorite. Another song with a great nrgetic bass line. I didn't know this was Bono's son, but I can hear a little Bono in his tone. Much better song that whatever U2 decided to release this last 3 years. maybe they should let Bono Jr. write their next album. #5. Caroline Polachek - So Hot You're Hurting My FeelingsThanks to Lord's comment I'll never be able to listen to this song again without thinking of a hand job. That's not entirely a bad thing either. It might actually help if you are me. Anyway, this song kinda rulez. Who ever said Rocksters don't like pop. I didn't get "indie cred pop" I got straight out pop. I Also got a little of that Talking Head's song. "This might Be The Place". Very pleasant and her vocals floor all today's manly sounding pop starletts. I'll take vocal effix if they make you sound like the 80's. I honestly only thought that me and a few others would give this top 10, but what a nice turn out. #4. black midi - 953Unfortunately this one is completely the opposite for me. I've seen this band on a lot of personal rock charts, but I didn't like their music. This was not exception. I really don't think I have to say why. Forget the melodic part. That's nonexistent. It just sounded like all the members were playing parts of a different. Nothing fit together, but I do love Red 's enthusiasm for the song. #3. The Strokes - Brooklyn Bridge to ChorusJust waiting for this one to be single #2. It has to be a single. Epic CRX meets the Strokes. Love the synths. #2. MGMT - In the AfternoonThis song came so close to my HOT LIST. It just fell out of my radar when all the new Frontiers Music acts started releasing albums earlier this year. Its a good song ,but misses the Darkwave mark from say "Little Dark Age" which ultimately became my favorite song of there's. It does have a haunting gothic Cure meets (insert Dreampop band here) vibe. #1. KennyHoopla - how will i rest in peace if i'm buried by a highway?//Epic song. I'm so happy this song won. Mean Bloc Party vibe if I ever heard one. Love, Love, Love the way he belts out the chorus. His vocals almost reach sonic static mode. I'm also glad the Alternative format isn't completely jaded and have this in the top 10. This was one of the songs I originally chose, but I guess Butterflies & Hurricanes beat me to it. You didn't even put it at #1 man. You should have let me have it. i would have won with a song I chose. great set of songs and as always love the insertion of the hosts comments. I kinda liked Lordef†ones comments too.

#1-3: 9/10 #4-6: 8/10 #7-20: 7/10 #21-28: 6/10 #29-35: 5/10 #36-40: 4/10
Best discovery: Colorblind
Not too hot on this set overall, I think #2 or #4 was my favorite seed, but this one was not without its good discoveries, I think I added more to my playlist from this one than I did seed #3, there were just way more songs that dipped below 6/10.
