#30 Heartracer - Time's Up
Chosen By: wheatsquares33 Points: 338 SD: 11.92079121 (7TH HIGHEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: It's a cruel...cruel summer. I mean, that's one way to get my attention, at least. This is an interesting song even beyond the sound of the song sounding not just a little like an amplified Bananarama. Go look up the message and the lyrics of this song sometime, they're an interesting read. shazam: i dug the 80s influences on this a lot! i think i probably underranked this a few spots, it's real earwormy

#29 Sports Team - M5
Chosen By: @bobpatience Points: 342 SD: 11.00669653
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: I think that I preferred "Here's the Thing", actually. I was right before about needing more listens to like it more, though perhaps the same thing will happen with "M5". I do like the atmospheric vibes this song has at times. shazam: Sports Team have been one of my favorite discoveries this tournament, i was a huge fan of this and "Here's the Thing". you can tell this group listened to a lot of Gang of Four, and that's definitely a positive in my eyes

#28 Grimes - 4ĆM
Chosen By: peacebone Points: 345 SD: 12.55671345 (6TH HIGHEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: "My Name is Dark" is the peak of this Grimes era, as least as far as I'm concerned, but "4ĆM" is not far off. This song feels...almost tribal, and I have to imagine that this was by design. It almost feels like this is two completely different songs, with part of the song beind dark and mysterious, and another part being playful and bouncy. It's a fun little contrast. shazam: ouch, i really really liked this. Grimes is pretty versatile but i didn't expect an full on drum and bass track from her. i knew this wasn't going to end up doing to well in the end, but i still was a pretty big fan

#27 Bladee f/ Ecco2k - Girls Just Want to Have Fun
Chosen By: willapted33 Points: 348 SD: 11.84727373 (8TH HIGHEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: This is basically what would happen if a man strived to be Grimes. I don't think I'll ever really connect with this song, but I can't deny that it is bouncy and catchy. shazam: this one, i had zero idea how it was going to perform. Bladee is... not everyone's cup of tea to say the least, but i'd say this is easily one of the most accessible things he's made. i love how light and airy it sounds, with some subtle nods to eurodance thrown in there. definitely up there with my favorites of the year

Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Good lord, this seed is just all over the place, and I love it. Love the solo break especially here. I also love that this band is not even American. They're *Swedish*. That makes this hard rocker even better. shazam: ugh this one i really wanted to like more than i ended up liking it. it has some really cool heavy psych and blues elements, but i don't think the song was exactly "my style" of heavy psych. don't get me wrong though, i still thought this was good!

#25 Flume f/ Toro y Moi - The Difference
Chosen By: Beno Points: 348 SD: 13.45323283 (HIGHEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Perhaps I should have named this thread "Alt/Rock Madness". This is probably the best Flume song I've heard, but the competition is so stacked here. shazam: ...so we got two drum and bass songs in this seed, huh? maybe i should've sent "Mr. Kill Myself" :kii: this track was pretty great, not very familiar with Flume but i loved the production here. also nice to see it not finish bottom 10!

#24 Caroline Rose - Feel The Way I Want
Chosen By: BlurryKyle Points: 363 SD: 11.40763825
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: Even before the vocals begin, I'm thinking to myself, "Okay, this sounds like a song that would be on a more recent FIFA soundtrack". That's both a good and a not so good thing. It's "not so good" because FIFA's soundtracks in recent years have been very up and down. It's good, though, because it's more representative of the "up" side of things than the "down" side. shazam: XMU was all over this track this year. i'm a fan of it! it's nice and groovy, got some subtle boogie influence in there that makes this a sleek little throwback jam.

#23 Algiers - Void
Chosen By: Red Points: 370 SD: 10.57056489
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: This song would be shocking to me if I wasn't aware of Algiers' previous work and how abrasive they could get at times at times. If the only song I knew from Algiers was the title track of The Underside of Power, then yeah, it would be shocking to hear Algiers make a song like "Void", but this is a band that has always been a bit more "punk" than they seem. Even still, "Void" is Algiers at their most punk, and it strikes me and hits me in a way that not even "The Underside of Power" did. "The Underside of Power" is a better song, but "Void" is so much more raw and unshackled. I have times where I need one or the other, and "Void" definitely helps to scratch the itch when I need something a little more unrestrained. shazam: this is another one i wish liked more than i did. Algiers have the making to be a band that i love (Can the Sub_Bass Speak? is phenomenal), and i thought this was quite hard hitting, but with this list it was hard to put any higher than i did

#22 Tricot - ććµćć
Chosen By: janinho Points: 377 SD: 9.847655345
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: This song surprised the hell out of me. The way this song moves and weaves..I really dig it. I don't know why I don't listen to more math rock, I almost always really get into it. shazam: Tricot are a really cool band, i gave one of their albums a listen a while back and i dug the frantic math rock nature of their tunes. this one was no exception, i thought this was awesome

#21 Holy Fuck f/ Nicholas Allbrook - Lip Gloss
Chosen By: peacebone Points: 381 SD: 9.870077054
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: This is a song that I feel like I could have gotten lost to if I were five to ten years younger and was awake at 3am. I've never been hugely into Holy Fuck, but this is nice. shazam: ugh i was really hoping this would finish top 20! i love songs that have rich, thick layers of synths and "Free Gloss" sure delivered that. i have a feeling this might sneak into my top 10 if i give this some more repeated listens, all around great track

#30. Heartracer - Time's UpOne of the first time listens that had to take a slot in my top 10. Maybe the vocals were the weakest link for someone like me, but the melody was 80's fire. A heard a little of Mr. Mister in this one. Maybe a song like "Broken Wings". A song like this with different vocals could fall into the Italo Disco genre. "Broken Wings was infact covered in Italo Disco fashion in 1989 by Boy. Its all in the marriage of the bass line, synths and percussion. I would have given it top 5 with female vocals. That's when Red Bananaramma vibe comes into full effect. #29. Sports Team - M5This was too cool not to upgrade. The music was straight out Black Keys. The singer has really good vocal tones for this kind of upbeat indeirock. #28. Grimes - 4ĆM This is a little to weird for me. I don't generally like music that sounds like its from the middle orient or tribal. idk but it defintely the kind of music I see belly dancers dance to. The percussion was uptempo, but Grimes didn't vocally excite me. In a weird way this could feel like a K-pop song, but I go for the cutsie K-pop songs not the tribal ones. Also WTF is the title of the song? I wanna say 4:AM, but that middle letter could be something from the satanic alphabet, so I'll just keep quiet about it. The metal band ĆMBER uses it too. To many things that are just not for me. #27. Bladee f/ Ecco2k - Girls Just Want to Have FunNormally I would tank this EDM-ish stuff hard. I kinda liked the female vocals, so it squeezed into my top 30. #26. BLUES PILLS - Low Road I'be been wanting to submit some fierce rock jam that you guys wouldn't tank right out of the gate. Took me a while to find one , but I think I did pretty decent with this submission. Don't be so surprised I submitted a Swedish Rock band. That's usually were I get my hard Rock music dose from these days. The vocals here are everything I want my female rockers to sound like. The song goes hard, fast and hits that psychedelic 70's vibe head on. #25. Flume f/ Toro y Moi - The DifferenceThis song did zero for me. Vocals. percussion, melody or there lack of. It's just not for me in any way. Is it too modern sounding. maybe, but the real problem is the percussion is all over the place. Too confusing for me. They are wacking on tables, cans, sounds like a dog's yelp at times, and GOD knows what else? It all kinda makes my head explode you know? I'll stick to Drum kits and 80's drum machines. #24. Caroline Rose - Feel The Way I WantThis was a great sounding Indiebop. Love the funky synth insertions the most. Sounds like one of those songs that would somehow find its way onto AAA. #23. Algiers - VoidI wanted to like this more , because the vocals were really strong, and because it goes hard on guitars, but the music felt liked it lacked coordination. I like my instruments to fall into place in a much more melodic fashion. Again I feel that this is how the band makes music, so either you dig it or you don't. #22. Tricot - ććµććNormally the math rock guitars are way too frantic for me, but this song balances it out beautifully with her vocals. her tones softens up the melody just enough for me to really get into. Don't know what the lyrics are saying, but I don't have issues with that when the vocals and music move me. #21. Holy Fuck f/ Nicholas Allbrook - Lip GlossMore dance oriented songs in my top 30. What's the world coming to. The vocals here were the least important to me as they didn't even sound human, but the way the synths are played really drives the song forward. In a weird way it could fit in my 80's dance pop playlist right.

30: Time's Up- UGH man I suck this round. Also in my top 5 most listened to songs of the year probably.
29: M5- Ehhhh I liked Here's the Thing a lot more. This is fine, just not nearly as catchy or memorable.
28: 4ĆM- Naaaaaah. As much as I've enjoyed a lot of Grimes' recent work, this one's just so annoying.
27: Girls Just Want to Have Fun- Huh, can't say I expected to see these two artists on a track together. It's nice enough, very pleasant, not too memorable.
26: Low Road- Cool blues rock track, nothing I haven't heard before, but I like it enough. Sounds like something I'd get in my discover weekly and put on the low end of my chart for 3 weeks or so
25: The Difference- I don't know what it is about this song that works so well for me. Like, it's very brief and pleasant, but it definitely doesn't seem like something that I would like as much as I do. Guess I just like the main hook a lot, I've come back to this one a ton.
24: Feel the Way I Want- In retrospect I was a little mean to put this at #40, but I just do not like this particular Caroline Rose song at all. I just hate the sound of the synths and I don't really find any part of it particularly catchy or likable. She's done much, much better work.
23: Void- Yeah this is kinda more straightforward than you'd expect from Algiers, but like...I won't complain about them making simple, hard-hitting punk bangers if they all sound like this.
22: ććµćć- Tricot are cool, I like all their stuff about equally (almost to the point where like...it all kinda sounds the same and I can't tell you one Tricot song title and match it to the song, but it all sounds really good anyway)
21: Lip Gloss- Yeah I just didn't like this. It's too one-note and I don't really even like the aesthetic that it goes for all that much, it's just kinda lost on me

#20 Richard Dawson - Jogging
Chosen By: singingrulebritannia Points: 387 SD: 11.51326466 (10TH HIGHEST)
Thoughts from the Hosts Red: "There's no such thing as a quick fix" hits me so freaking hard that I feel like I just got out of a boxing match with Floyd Mayweather. I can't relate to this song completely, but parts of this song feel like they're describing me to a tee. shazam: there was something oddly endearing about this track that i can't pinpoint. i also find myself enjoying it more at it progressed;i wasn't feeling it too much near the beginning. the final 30 seconds here are just killer
