samo🦕 Nick P Red gang gang Look, I'm still going to rank Highway top 10 when the Alt rankdown comes around. But heavens to Betsy, this series treated it like all-time top 100 material lmao

Before we move on to the next series, I just want to take a moment to thank all of you who submitted songs, submitted rankings, followed along, or did ANYTHING to help this edition of Rock Madness another successful one. As someone who has grown increasingly more and more apprehensive about hosting RDs, Rock Madness is pretty much the RD series that keeps me going as a host, and all of you help to keep me in the game.
I also want to take the time to give a special thank you to @humanshazam. Without him, I would not have been able to complete this second series. That is not hyperbole, he saved my freaking ass this time. He is the best co-host I could have asked for to help me out during a busy and (sometimes) tough period, and I hope that you'll consider coming back to co-host someday, though I'll COMPLETELY understand if you don't feel like doing this again.
I'll be back very soon...
(And by "very soon", I mean "minutes from now", not "in a couple months".)

aaaaaaaaand that's a wrap!
i'm super glad "Cars in Space" got the ultimate win here, it's such a fun high energy jam that puts me in a good mood every time with its incredible guitarwork. seriously, congrats Rowell!!
now is when i want to say thanks so much to everyone who participated in the rock board spring madness! i hopped on somewhat last minute for this but it was a blast watching the results in real time and gathering a ton of new discoveries. in particular, though, i want to thank the following people: eidde, James, Samo, Matt, Nick, fearless, and wrip (i think i got everyone) for sending in a list at any point despite never sending songs. you guys made this an even more fun experience, and it was awesome to get a larger turnout because of this!
unfortunately, i'm still a student and this year is particularly important for me. this means i'm going to have to step away from hosting. i've really enjoyed my time behind the wheel of this insane game but school comes first, ya know? however, Red has been an incredible co-host and i feel super confident that he'll make this next series a great one as always!
thanks for the ride, it's been real

I'm going to try and keep this as brief as I can, though, with me and first posts for RMD series, there's a very small chance of that happening.
Over these first two series, we've seen many a great song enter the competition, only for one song to reign supreme at the very end. We've seen various types of music permeate the eight seeds and two finals, mostly rock-leaning. You may have noticed some less rock songs creeping into the proceedings, however, especially in the most recent RMD. Well, it's time to fully embrace the non-rock side of things, as this seed will be the first of many over the course of this RMD journey where we tackle a specific non-rock genre!
Now, you may be asking yourself, "But Red, this is Rock Madness, not Other Genre Madness!" To those people, I say, "Yeah, well, 'Blinding Lights' just went top ten in the final of the most recent RMD, so I think you're outnumbered." But also, what's the harm in expanding your horizons a little bit? So, with that in mind, the most popular genre on Pulse is about to take its turn in the RMD spotlight. It's time to get your favorite brand of bubblegum, because we're about to go Pop.
Most of the ground rules will be similar to the previous RMD series, so if you need a refresher course on how this will work, the core idea will be the same: Submit eight songs, and preferably include some extras, just in case. You never know who could take one of your picks. You will have three weeks to come up with eight or more songs, as the deadline for song submissions will be Monday, September 7th.
There are a couple of rules that are exclusive to this series, however:
-- The first, and perhaps most important, new rule: Please, PLEASE try not to submit songs that everyone and their mother knows. By this, I don't just mean massive, chart-topping hits. I mean the Pulse darlings, too, like "Run Away with Me" and "Dancing on My Own" and so on. There are tens of thousands of pop songs out there. I think you can find more than enough songs that aren't the most popular songs.
-- Does this mean that you are not allowed to submit ANY songs that charted? No. While I will be a little more strict if someone tries to submit, say, "Billie Jean", I will be allowing people to submit songs that charted...within reason. I will be allowing people to submit songs that charted on every major music chart, including the Hot 100, as long as they fit the pop mold. I will even allow for people to submit songs that did fairly well in their time. All I ask is that you don't submit eight Madonna/MJ/Prince/Gaga/etc. songs, or eight of the biggest pop hits ever. I might accept one, maybe two. Just don't make your entire group of songs obvious picks. The golden rule of thumb here is this: If you have a feeling that the song might be too obvious, chances are that it's too obvious.
-- I don't think that I'm going to be too strict when it comes to subgenres here, but I will say that I will be stricter with some subgenres than others. I'm specifically referring to genres that are a little more definitively "rock" than "pop". If you think I should expand on this thought or have any ideas on how to deal with this rule specifically, feel free to give me any suggestions before the song submission deadline.
Well, that wound up being less brief than I was hoping. At any rate, it's time to jump straight into the next series!
New York, Paris, London, Munich, everybody talk about...

I wanna open up the poptart horizons even more. Is foreign Pop allowed? Unless you think Red is turning into a huge xenophobe for the remainder of the year, I think you know the answer is yes

While I definitely do not dislike 'pop' music as a genre I do not think this RMD is for me, so could I be untagged for this one? Rock on, Bob Patience As long as you understand that there are a LOT of pop subgenres, including a couple that have already been in previous series that may or may not qualify for this one.
Pop isn't just referring to the Madonnas and Arianas of the world. It's a pretty vast landscape.

Pop isn't just referring to the Madonnas and Arianas of the world. It's a pretty vast landscape. That is the thing. Because it is such a vast landscape I have little idea what to expect beyond what has been sent for previous RMD's. With Rock this is not a problem, because I can still enjoy most mediocre Rock songs and I like basically every genre; except for Shoegaze and Death/Black/Doom Metal, of course. However with Pop I only really enjoy a handful of genres (Art-, Jazz-, Folk-, Sophisti-, 1980's Synth- and 1960's Psychedelic Pop for anyone interested) and beyond those I usually only like hits (which seem to be mostly excluded from this RMD). Long story short: I have no idea what to expect so I will not submit a list, though I could always submit for the seeds if I end up actually liking the selection. Rock on, Bob Patience I enjoy all those pop genres you mentioned. send a list . We need more members who will send songs before the age of autotune.

Okay so I've just sent in some songs. I think/hope I've done it right and I expect all of them to tank. :sip2:
And just to get it out of the way, no I did not submit any Michael Paynter. :sip2: :sip2:

I don’t often think much about genres. The best music defies easy categorization. I submitted Blinding Lights because it was one of my favorite songs of the year & I didn’t really put much thought into whether or not it fit the category (as I gravitate towards the Alt genres about 98% of the time). In fact, Red says it was one of the biggest pop hits of the decade so far...I didn’t realize as I haven’t checked out the pop charts much since the turn of the century.
I’m going to have to look through all of my year end lists & ask myself, which of these is not like the others. This is going to be a challenge, but a fun one.

Our first tag session of the new series. *sniff* Always lovely to see.
For what it's worth, Bob, I do hope you reconsider.
(If you are being tagged and you have already submitted, it's a reminder in case you want to change your submissions at any point. Once we get to the deadline, your songs are set. If you wish to be tagged, make sure to let me know ASAP!) TWO WEEKS UNTIL THE SUBMISSION DEADLINE.

I came in here after noticing the title change. May I be tagged for this (and future rock ones, to expand my horizons,) and I may end up submitting a list out of interest.

submitted...damn this was hard...most of my submissions are from 1999-2009 (as we've been doing 80s music to death lately - still my favorite era though)
i think i leaned too alternative here - but hey, that's what i like <SHRUG>

I'm gonna presume 'Deleted' was Tweety. Which means I guess we're not going to get a repeat/variant on his Summertime Madness picks. :sip2:
I've gone for the realm of 2000's pop (with one 90's exception) with my choices. Expect #teamAUSSIE because... duh. :sip2:
