Why do you keep doing this to yourself? Iβm really hurting inside, but itβs hope that keep me alive. (Adele too). Just wait till a working link to a song/album on Apple Music/Spotify is made available. Until that happens, nothing is concrete and you'll just keep getting disappointed.

The Box is rising incredibly fast on Spotify. I definitely anticipate it going top 10 early in 2020.

Those dates would suggest Tuesday single drops...what happened to Friday new music day again?

Interesting that AIWFCIY suffered (relatively) during the years that Mariah (and her reputation) was in trouble on the charts (2001 - 2005) but then sprang to #1 and hasn't relented since the We Belong Together recharge. It didn't "suffer," it was just still working its way up. At that point it hadn't even been out 10 years, yet was already among the legit classics. That's actually really impressive. Those stats also show that it was already among the classics pre-Love Actually, since that movie came out in 2003 but "AIWFCIY" was already top 10. The digital age is what really kicked it up to #1.

I wonder if some of the newer Christmas songs, in particular Under The Tree and Christmas Tree Farm, will be able to develop into classics and overtake Mariah in a few years. I love both of those songs so I hope they can at some point!

Biebs doesn't have a shot to debut at #1 but might climb there the week after. Interesting.
Although he hasn't have had a #1 since I'm the One so it's not guaranteed that he'll get there in the first place (probably will as the #1 spot is offered pretty cheap after Xmas though).
But why likely two singles? Didn't his team learn anything from The Weeknd and Selena Gomez?

I love both of those songs so I hope they can at some point! I doubt any song that exists at the moment will take over AIWFCIY on a long-term basis anytime soon. People consistently seem to think that it is simply catchier and more festive than all the other Christmas songs. I can't think of any other song that gets people in the holiday spirit more than this song, and that's why people listen to it like junkies all December, so they can inject themselves with holiday festivity. rimetm's list shows that it has been the number 1 holiday song for the past 15 years. That won't change anytime soon.

It took "AIWFCIY" a decade to get there, and it's obviously an exception more than the rule.

In what way was it "suffering" in the early 00s? It wasn't yet 10 years old and was consistently top 10 for all holiday songs. That logic would mean songs like "Santa Tell Me" and "Underneath the Tree" are really struggling right now since they're not even top 10. Obviously the popularity for "AIWFCIY" has grown, but it was never struggling.

The title threw me off like crazy lol, can't believe it's about to be 2020 holy shit
Last week of the Christmas songs (good). Wonder if any of the new Thug songs will chart, the one with Travis probably will even though it's pretty mid imo

Recall the Hot 100 Airplay charts of the mid 90s where AIWFCIY was a consistent top Holiday smash for years, highly unusual for any modern Christmas song. Certainly a lot more potent than recent output from Ariana aor Kelly. At those levels, it would have been higher than #5 or 6 in the early 00s if MC's reputation hadn't taken a hit with Glitter, Pop Radio's freeze-out and the TRL incident.

Maybe itβs a regional thing, but I remember hearing AIWFCIY all over the radio in the NYC area during the early 00βs at Christmas time. Not so much the late 90βs but Christmas music had a huge surge at radio following 9/11. I donβt think it was ever βsufferingβ though. Itβs been one of the biggest contemporary Christmas songs since it was first released. Itβs just that in recent years it became THE biggest Christmas song.

But why likely two singles? Didn't his team learn anything from The Weeknd and Selena Gomez? "Despacito" the very next week? One of the biggest songs of all time? Would very likely not have made it anywhere near #1 (despite being a global smash) if not for the Bieber version.

But why likely two singles? Didn't his team learn anything from The Weeknd and Selena Gomez? His last album cycle had two (three even) successful singles almost on top of each other. If anything, they learned from him.

"1/4/2020" that looks so weird lol From what I've seen, month and date numbers are always double-digits, regardless of leading zeroes. So "01/04/2020" makes more sense. You will notice this if you look in Billboard Hot 100 thread archives. I went back and double checked this when I created the thread last night but it was pretty inconsistent. Both formats are correct, so I took the liberty to get rid of unnecessary zeros on this one to keep it skinny like the legendary mc

Fo most of the 90s Hot 100 Airplay was primarily Top 40 radio. As we know, AC radio is what plays holiday music most. We donβt necessarily know how AIWFCIY would have done in overall airplay in the mid/late 90s.

I hope the music is good. considering the fact that these dates are the three fridays before selena's album drop, i see this as a very snake-y and tacky release from his management. let the girl have her chance, especially after he has already admitted to abusing that relationship in the past

He's been teasing dropping new music in 2020 for weeks now. Reportedly, he already has tour dates booked and ready to go. I think the plan was always for him to hit the ground running as soon as the calendar flipped to 2020.

We have Adult Top 40, Mainstream & Adult Urban, Rhythmic, Mainstream AC, the CHR Recurrents and every other chart that documented AIWFCIY in the late 90s. As a subscriber to Billboard's Airplay Monitor magazine, you could get a terrific picture of its monitored activity based on BDS monitored airplay. It did really well back then.
