28. Shot Down - BRKN LOVE A fine Rock jam. I loved "Jon' BRKN's vocals. Reason I upgraded the song into my top 30. I wonder what else is on the menu?

27. You Never Know - Beartooth I liked this one a tad better than "Disease". way better intro and gets to the chorus(Meat) quicker. The chorus was fierce. The music video is a lot of fun too.

This is our 4th year in a row ranking a song from Hardwired... To Self-Destruct. I like this song but it just didn't really feel like single-worthy material to me. EDIT: I forgot to mention this before but this is Geometrical 's first top 10 loss leaving only wheatsquares33 with all of their top 10 still in it. Way to go! 26

"Shot Down" is pretty great, love how dark it is.
"You Never Know" is a great driving song lol. I always crank this up if its playing when I'm behind the wheel.

This fits squarely in with the "other" singles off of Hardwired. It's solid, but there's a reason the two best performers from this era are "Spit Out the Bone" and "Moth Into Flame".

The guitar and production on "Halo On Fire" was really damn amazing. This made it high on my list for that reason.

Bottom 10 contender for sure. I wanted this to make it so I had the pleasure of tanking it.

If this next extra had been able to make the cut, the Raconteurs could've joined Cage the Elephant, Greta Van Fleet, and the Black Keys in having a song in all 3 rock chart rankdowns for 2019.

in 2024 the first singles off Hardwired will just start charting again because they already pushed every song on the album to radio

26. Halo on Fire - Metallica This was just the band phoning it in for a slot in 2019 Active RD. At least it accomplished that. Also the bottom 10 is not the one I expected this song to get.

The lead singer of this next band is Howard Jones formerly of Killswitch Engage. Based on that, you'd think that I'd really like this band's material but I haven't been able to get into them much so far.

Monster (Under My Bed) - Call Me Karizma This catastrophe would have shaken up a bit my bottom 10. maybe even lower than Papa Roach elektric travesty.

So I ended up with the flu last Friday, and it's the sickest I've been in about five years, so I ultimately said "fuck it" to this rankdown and another one that were due last weekend. I feel a little better, but I still might call in sick to work tomorrow. Anyway, "Dance Macabre" and "When The Seasons Change" would have been my #1 and #2. I also would have helped "Breaking Down" escape the bottom 20, because the chorus is awesome.

And yet you argued that Sheerunt overstayed? I never said he overstayed. Literally all I said was, I was surprised he made the top 40. :sip2: For the record I am disgusted with myself 'Blow' was one of my favourites here, but I would've thought he would've gone out like, bottom 20 because, y'know, it's Ed Sheeran..

Finally got around to seeing this set of reveals. Reactions:
40. Blow (my #66): surprised to see it do this well, but it is pretty solid. Not a fan of the lyrics but that's just me really lmao.
39. Vervain (my #22): Grew on me a a lot while doing the rankdown. I actually kinda like the whole "moaning out the lyrics" thing. Could def see it grow even more in the future.
38. Disease (#60): opinion keeps wavering between pretty good and alright. Like the other Beartooth song left more.
37. Wouldn't You Rather (#47): Probably underranked, but on the other hand the chorus doesn't engage me as much I wished it did.
36. Cross Off (#27): I like it. Not much to say there.
35. Bella Donna (#84): I only really dislike the part where he sings "Bella Donna". Unfortunately that ruins the chorus for me. I ranked the other Black Moods songs a lot higher though so I hope that makes up for it.
"2 people who have yet to lose a top ten will lose their first at #34." OK this is definitely me.
34. Pressure (#24): OK maybe not. Side note: I feel like I'm the only one who liked Thought Contagion haha.
33. Black Vultures (#31): So close yet so far from a perfect ranking. But yeah, I'm a sucker for Halestorm.
32. Mantra (#54): Good, again probably underranked.
31. Haunted (#8): Ah, there goes my first top ten. I will never not be astonished that I've had a low closeness this whole rankdown, yet my top 10 only just got hit. TBH, I'm not surprised this one was the first to go, but I can't help but enjoy it.
30. S.O.S. (Sawed Off Shotgun) (#83): Did not expect to last that long... again. I will admit that it was catchy, but I got tired of it after hearing it so much earlier in the year.
29. You'll Never Find Me (#77): It's alright. I only really disliked my bottom 20 or so, maybe less.
"Somebody gets rid of their last bottom ten here." Is this me?
28. Shot Down (#97): TBH, I can't remember why I disliked this [listens to it again]. Oh right, the vocals. Even then, most of it's not awful, it's just that the part when he says "landslide" is my least favorite sound in this whole rankdown. With that out, there are no songs in that I don't like at least somewhat.
27. You Never Know (#11): Liked it a lot. I'll never be able to use the phrase "you never know" without thinking of this song.
26. Halo On Fire (#29): Pretty good. I would be down to listen to this in just about any mood.

More nightly shenanigans while asleep...down to seven top tens. I'll take it this late in the game:
Blow: The beauty of this is that it combines the gritty lyrics of the 1980s with a more modern sensibility (I swear I detect a bit of Battle Without Honor or Humanity in the guitar solo). I'd have to get albums of Chris Stapleton or Bruno Mars doing rock songs. I'd probably get Ed Sheeran doing them as well.
32. Mantra: I found the verses a bit messy, but the guitars and chorus brought the whole thing together.
The truth will set you free...but first it will piss you off...
31. Haunted: In all honesty, I think Jane Diamente has some nice vocals. But this is another song that overdoes the electronica. Just rock out, people, and save it for alternative.
30. SOS: Wow, you must be burned out on this song, aren't you? This would explain why a song that I'd think would end up in the top 15 or so end up scraping the 30s. Not much to add because I said my piece in Alternative.
29. You'll Never Find Me: Wasn't expecting Korn to last this long. For better or worse, it's typical Korn but the lyrics are above average for them.
28. Shot Down: Nice guitar introduction and some solid vocals compensate for misusing electronic effects. Pretty good tune.
27. You Never Know: That chorus is solid, but what was up with those vocal effects?
Bottom 30 clear!
26. Halo on Fire: It's not bad (after all it's Metallica) but the lyrics could be tighter. Instrumentation helps things out.
Extras:
I'm going to have to check out Monster...someone compared this to Kulick and I hope this isn't unfounded. Help Me Stranger is a solid tune from the Rancoteurs, but I probably would have to ding it a little bit...it's more Alternative/AAA to me.

The Badflower songs are all that's left in my top 10... so if this is "Heroin" I REALLY hope "The Jester" can make it to the top 10.

Kind of expected this to be higher until a day or two ago.
I don't have the two Badflower songs separated by much. I thought they were equally good.
