It is well-known that I am not a supporter of Chris Stapleton (his belting literally sounds like a cat getting its tail stuck under a rocking chair), but "Broken Halos" is one of his better songs! I was happy to see this win his rankdown, and I was also happy seeing "Fire Away" finish at #2 in his rankdown. I actually think his voice fits perfectly on both of those songs, so I am also okay seeing this manage to escape the bottom 15 in this rankdown. I do like it, despite my low ranking! :) (Most of his songs would have been last place for me without question... Lol)

Yes, toxic Carrie fans, please keep trying to sell this as the best song of Carrie's entire career. It's an interesting psychological case study!!
(Actually none of them actually participated here, which is why this song got a very reasonable placement!)

Oop, there goes our first Sara Evans song!! "Slow Me Down" is such a cool song, and I cannot get enough of it. The pizzicato strings in the production are such an innovative aspect of the musical arrangement that is alone enough to give this song a shot of personality. Throw in Sara's lively vocal filled with powerful falsetto runs, and that iconic wedding dress scene in the music video, and this song feels like a moment that should have gotten WAY more attention in Sara's career.
It is very bombastic and poppy though, so I am not at all surprised to see it leaving now when she would typically do a bit better in these rankdowns.

Johnny Cash's live rendition of the classic "Folsom Prison Blues" rounds out the bottom 20, taking our 3rd person's #1 loss with it! This time singingrulebritannia is the victim. This song is spirited and iconic, but to me this feels like a pretty good place for it. It is actually pretty cool to see a live recording of a song do so well here, and in disassociative's rankdown, because honestly live recordings almost universally get trashed when they are up against studio tracks, regardless of how well done they are!

The fact that I placed "Drinking Alone" at #25 despite being a Carrie stan proves that this list is full of greats. I wouldn't go so far as to call this the best of her entire career because JTTW, BHC, So Small, Just a Dream, and Blown Away all say "hi" but this is still a damn good song imo. That said, it just doesn't compete with the other songs in my Top 25 of this list. Would've liked to see it at least hit the Top 30 tho, but at least it came close!

And PS..."Slow Me Down" easily deserved Top 15 what the hell! Sure it's a bit loud but it's still great. I'm not expecting the others to leave for awhile tho so...

this is hard to say but I'm only upset that "Holy Water" was out as early as it was. "Break First" should have been a little bit higher as well.
I like "Drinking Alone" but I definitely wouldn't put it in Carrie's top 30 songs so it definitely isn't close to being one of her best

Since we lost our first Sara Evans song in the last set, she gets the honor of being our next featured artist!! "Suds In The Bucket" is yet another rankdown force, which has finished in the top 6 in just about every rankdown it has appeared in. It finished at #2 in the 2004 year-end rankdown, allowing it to appear in the first Revenge of the Best rankdown. It managed to pull out a #6 finish in that extremely competitive rankdown that was ultimately won by Jo Dee's perpetually-shafted "Bye Bye". It next appeared in Sara's singles rankdown, where it placed at #4 but was unfortunately not able to displace our 2 previous BotB winners "A Real Fine Place To Start" and "A Little Bit Stronger", plus fan favorite "Born To Fly". It FINALLY won its first rankdown in this last set, when it managed to pull off a victory in g8erboi 's personal rankdown about his Country Favorites of the '00s!
Bonus: "Suds In The Bucket" - Sara Evans
Finished at #1 in: G8erboi's Country Favorites of the '00s rankdown (Host: g8erboi )

"Troubadour" is a fantastic song, but tbh it is not one that I revisit a whole lot. I continue to scratch my head at how y'all manage to consistently place it above "I Saw God Today", which is one of his very best late-career singles...

If I calculate closeness stats for this mine must be the worst lol Seriously though Troubadour is one of better late career singles for George Strait and I Don't Want To is catchy country pop.

"Sleeping With The Telephone" is such an iconic duet. Faith and Reba absolutely nail this vocal!!! And of course there's the tragic moment when Reba reaches for her husband in the night only to wake up to the telephone ringing instead... That moment is singlehandedly one of the most brilliantly suspenseful moments of her entire career. What was the phone call about??!!?! Did he DIE?!?!!? We had this whole conversation already in the album rankdown, so I won't rehash, it, but basically I think he died. Why else would the phone be ringing in the middle of the night, and why would she get a sudden jolt of fear and wake up just in time for the telephone to start ringing? I look forward to this one hopefully doing MUCH better in the upcoming Reba album tracks rankdown!!!!!

You know (continuing this convo quickly as I wasn't here for Reba Duets' RD) I always think that's exactly what did happen; I mean there's just no other logical explanation except for telemarketers as to why the phone would be ringing at such ungodly hours. It's such a beautiful song, and that ending makes it heartbreaking and imo elevates the song to another level.
