I had no clue what to expect from this song tbh, and I was FLOORED when it was able to hang onto the top half for the entire submission process!!! Normally super old songs like this tend to be at a bit of a disadvantage when ranked alongside more modern classics, but I'll be damned if Queen Loretta wasn't able to hold her own quite impressively here!!! That was nice to see Hell yeah Loretta! Prove to these youngin's what a queen you are!

Poor Reba...I'm surprised that she's lost so many songs, and especially before the top 20.

The fact that "Tammy Wynette Kind Of Pain" is still in this!! I'll be damned if that's not one of her all-time best then!

I am actually pretty impressed with how well "Turn On The Radio" did here. Modern Reba continuously proves to be more polarizing than classic Reba in these big full-genre rankdowns, and this one especially has proven to be pretty polarizing. Like didn't it miss the top 40 in the 2010 rankdown? I don't remember, and I'm not gonna dig back that far in the thread to see if I can find it. But the point is, it is a known underperformer, yet it managed to make the top half here despite a crowd that doesn't exactly appreciate modern Reba as much as me and someguy and kamala 2024 truther and RobbyFlorida do! I'll count this as a success Lol

Poor Reba...I'm surprised that she's lost so many songs, and especially before the top 20. Yeah, I think we're gonna have to do the album tracks rankdown for her modern albums, like, next after we finish For My Broken Heart... Lmao we need to give all these wonderful rankdown-winning album tracks that got tanked a chance to redeem themselves!!! (I may or may not have thought this same thing after watching "Make Me Believe" get tanked in the last Revenge rankdown, and then it went on to WIN Martina's album tracks rankdown Talk about a redemption!!!)

Oh. Honestly the top two songs in Garth Brooks rankdown are pretty good. Pulse just hates him a little bit too much.

"The Dance" is one of the most ICONIC songs of our entire lives, and no hatred of Garth Brooks will ever change that!! This song finally became a rankdown winner when someguy had the guts to tackle a rankdown for Pulse's most hated male artist himself, and I am so glad he took on that task and gave songs like this a chance! Garth has had his fair share of clunkers, but he has some truly incredible material in the upper regions of his catalog. This song among them. Once again, I am shook to see a song that was in the top half for the entire submission process!!! Garth may not deserve, but this beautiful song certainly does! It was actually a top 20 contender for the majority of the submission process.

Why yes I was; 10 years ago would make me 9 going on 10. Let me just say that with the EOTY thefts from Carrie Underwood put aside, I've just simply never cared for Garth as an artist. A lot of his material just doesn't speak to me (even "Friends in Low Places" I can only tolerate) and call me crazy but I find something about his vocals to be grating to my ears. "The Dance" is a great song lyrically but something had to go last! (Martina, of course, sings it better imo.)

Let's go ahead and say hello to another multi rankdown winner from this set!! Sara Evans surprised us all when she SPRUNG back onto the scene after her incredibly messy and public divorce and subsequent hiatus with this beautiful anthem to moving on from heartbreak. It is an intensely personal song for her, and it was SO beautiful when it managed to become a huge #1 smash for her, in a time when most people probably thought she wouldn't see much radio success even if she returned. This song has won EVERY rankdown it has ever been a part of, which is hella impressive! It has only been in 3 rankdowns to date, but 2 of them have been really Big Deal sorts of rankdowns. Its first victory was Sara's own singles rankdown, where it beat some incredibly stiff competition (such as "A Real Fine Place To Start", which had never lost a rankdown before either!) to finish at #1. That happened in the previous eligibility period, causing this song to be featured in the previous BotB rankdown. That one proved to be its second rankdown victory!!! It was not the only rankdown it won during this eligibility period, however, as it went on shortly thereafter to have a landslide victory in its parent album rankdown (surprise, surprise). If there is any justice in the world, this one will win the 2011 rankdown that is currently accepting submissions too!!!! It certainly has the resume to suggest that if Sara ever deserved to win a year-end rankdown, it is with this song!!!
Bonus: "A Little Bit Stronger" - Sara Evans
Finished at #1 in the: Best of the Best - Country Rankdown Winners Pt. II (Host: bboat11 ) Sara Evans: Stronger album rankdown (Host: .indulgecountry )

As some of you may know, being from a place where no one listens to country music and first getting into country music in the 2010s, a lot of older country music is still "discoveries" for me - and "Outbound Plane" was one of them in this rankdown. This is probably the biggest reason why I used to not identify as a "country poster" on Pulse.
Anyways, I love the overall production on this (almost lighthearted and breezy) and Suzy Bogguss' voice fits the song perfectly! I also love the usage of outbound planes in two ways (two ex-lovers departing from an airport + love goes out the door/fades away if you try to force it).

So, first let me address the elephant in the room regarding my bottom ranking for âSleeping with the Telephoneâ as Iâve been bracing myself for a bit of blowback lol. I was quite surprised this ended up winning the Reba Duets album rankdown because I had no idea it was such a Pulse favorite and I admit as an Army veteran myself I can relate to the emotions loved ones back home have nervously awaiting the call from the deployedâŠ.but something about this song just has never clicked with me. I listened to it again earlier today and while I canât quite put my finger on it I can only narrow it down to the vocal arrangement of Reba and Faith. Anyways, I struggled with trying to place this song in my list and in the end I put it at the bottom because it just isnât one I revisit. Still COMPLETELY baffled at "Run" being tanked out of winning this album rankdown, because it was absolutely the primary runaway contender, which literally everybody expected to win I remain just as surprised by this and it wouldâve been interesting to see where âRunâ wouldâve landed here because I actually think it wouldâve come out ahead of where âSheâll Leave You With A Smileâ ranked. I hold both Johnny Cash and the song âFolsom Prison Bluesâ in high regard plus it of course getâs a bounce for me after seeing George perform this a handful of times. Given the overall environment here on Pulse, however, it did about as well as I thought it might. Nonetheless, I didnât think twice about putting this in my top 5. âThe Danceâ is a sentimental favorite of mine and as Iâve mentioned before the song was used in both my parents funerals. I can understand the dislike for Garth in general, but what I donât understand is how anyone could casually put this in their bottom two or last place (looking at you kamala 2024 truther !). Going to stop there for now but itâs always interesting watching these results!

Ohh I'm thrilled to learn that this was not only a discovery for you but that you enjoyed it so much it landed inside your top 10! This has been a favorite of mine since probably the first time I ever heard it on country radio back when I was a boy and it's been one that I reach for to revisit often. I also love a great song that I can listen to on road trips and this has always been a go-to for those kind of moments.

If anyone else sang "The Dance," I would've ranked it much higher. I hate his voice so it doesn't matter how good the bones of the song are. "A Little Bit Stronger" would've still been a great song on paper no matter who recorded it, but imagine if Haley Georgia had sung it instead? That's a bit of an extreme example, but that's basically how I feel about Garth's voice. I cannot stand it and he's a station changer regardless of the song's lyrical content.

I like Garth, so his music doesn't apply to this for me, but sometimes a voice you don't like can completely ruin a song that you otherwise would like. It's so interesting how different ears hear different things.
