Her vocals annoyed the hell out of me on this one.

Speaking of songs making into the top 50 later, here's another one. Six people put this bottom 20, two of them bottom 10s. On the contrary, four others put this top 20, two of them top 10.

We close off this set with another song that was top 10 very early in the game. No one put this bottom 10, but there's three bottom 20s, and two top 10s.

Essential listening. This was in a RD of shazam's and would have been in my top 5, maybe even #1 if it was in this RD. This is from 2013, but it's still a damn good song.

We've encountered a few of this Aussie band's songs in retro AAA rankdowns. The format was not as kind to their most recent era. As for me? This would've landed in my top 40, and is better than "Walk the Wire". EXTRA

This might not be surprising to anyone but me (Gates), but "The Game" is Milky Chance's first charter on AAA since "Stolen Dance". More importantly, who still cares for Milky Chance now? (*crickets*) EXTRA

lolllllll thank god PDs came to their senses before we had to rank this - on BB. This is still #41 as of press time on MB, and has spent 31 weeks in the MB AAA Top 50. Take this sh it down PDs, we don't need this lasting like over a year on MB Top 50. EXTRA

And finally, it's been a long time since we last ranked Andrew Bird...and we're still not going to do it today, sorry. Does this album cover remind you of Have a Nice Life? Bird kinda sounds like Father John Misty here, but I like this song and would have put this in my top 40 at least. EXTRA

{"WELL, I GUESS I WASN'T ABLE TO MAKE IT AFTER ALL" WORD WALL}#55: Well, I thought this was going to make the top half. Not complaining, though, I've just never been able to get into The Head and the Heart. #54: Didn't dislike this, despite my ranking. The put on English accent was...a choice, though. #53: This was pretty good. That's all I've got, lol. #52: Glad that AAA wasn't as harsh to this song as it has been to other Alt crossovers. I didn't like dropping this ten spots. #51: Did you know that Lukas Nelson is Willie Nelson's son?!?! I was worried this would get tanked more, so I'm glad it almost made the top half, to be honest. #50: I thought this would be a little more divisive. I also assumed this would have top tens, and it did not. I think I liked this more than any song I've heard from them so far, though that is very "your mileage may vary". #49: I was rooting for this to match its Alt performance, but it was always going to be a tough task here. #48: I am shocked that this made the top half and is so much higher than "Lebanon". If anything, I may have underranked "Lebanon". This was fine, but I feel like he's capable of way better than either of the songs here. #47: Speaking of songs I'm surprised to see in the top half...hell, a couple of the rankings in the bottom half surprise me. #46: I liked this, but I didn't like this as much as I thought I would. #45: And speaking of songs that I thought I would like more than I actually did...this is cute. #44: This is both a little higher than I expected it to be in the rankdown and a little lower in my ranking than I expected. I've always had a soft spot for Alabama Shakes and specifically Brittany Howard, though this wasn't quite one of the best songs she's been a part of. #43: Both of her 2018 songs were better, but this was still fine. A 100 for this, though, damn... #42: Oh, wow. I figured "Light On" would be higher, but this is looooow. #41: On one hand, I liked this and thought it would make the top 40. On the other hand, my top ten twenty survived into the top 40 unscathed. I guess I'll take it.

I thought "Burning" was a lot better than "Light On", so I can't say I'm not disappointed here.
"New Birth In New England" was a solid first listen. I liked it a lot.
I wish we got to rank "Hold Your Nerve". Great song. It would have been just outside my top 10.

Another early morning rankdown: 55. See You Through My Eyes: This was nicely done. The vocals were well done and the lyrics were solid. 54. Overexcited: I didn't care for the beat. That's why it did so low. Vocals were interesting, however. 53. Renegade: Liked the vocals to this one. This was pretty good. 52. You're Somebody Else: This kind of grew on me when Hot AC started to play it. Thought it was a nice song. 51. Bad Case: No idea that he was related to Willie Nelson. The vocals were nicely done and I thought it was a great tune. Aaw. 50. Fighter: Sometimes it's the little things that detract. Those drums in the background were bad enough that this tune slid down my ratings. 49. Fast Talk: Will agree with Daryl that it's a bit snoozy. But the repetition and the generic lyrics were more to blame for my low rank. Yeah, I'm down to one bottom 10. But I'd be surprised if it left before the top 25. 48. Saying Goodbye: I liked the vocals on this like I did with Lebanon, but the repetition was just too noticeable. I think he can do better than this year's entries. 47. The River: The chorus to this one was nice. And Tunstall did offer some good vocals. Color me skeptical: But I can't see either Suddenly I See or Black Horse and the Cherry Tree making the top 10. There'll be one (or two) too many tankers. 46. Change: You can thank/blame Hozier for alerting me on this next artist. I liked the lyrics more than the vocals, but still thought it was a very good song. 45. Peach Fuzz: The vocals are decent, but the lyrics feel too generic. 44. Stay High: The bells kept this out of the top 10. But Britney's vocals are superb as per usual. Didn't know there were vocal detractors of Alabama Shakes, though. I do now. 43. I Get No Joy: The vocals are nice. Although for a title like that, I felt like the singer was almost too joyful. 42. Burning: The vocals were nice, but I could have done without all the background noise. 41. New Birth in New England: Not sure what the title was referring to, but the vocals and guitar work are nicely done. Nice first time discovery.

55. See You Through My Eyes: I literally yawned as I started typing this. 54. Overexcited: This one grew on me a lot! It's fun and I'm a sucker for a good horn section. 53. Renegade: I didn't hate this; it just didn't leave a lasting impression on me. 52. You're Somebody Else: Finally! I was worried I'd be the only bottom-10 tanker for this snooze. 51. Bad Case: Another one of my favorite discoveries! 50. Fighter: I totally forgot Joseph had come out with a new record but this was pretty solid. 49. Fast Talk: Another one of my faves from 2019; just happy it made the top-half. 48. Saying Goodbye: I got such a Tracy Chapman vibe from this but I still preferred Lebanon. 47. The River: Color me shocked that KT's still making records; another one of my fave discoveries. 46. Change: at me getting Leo'd on my PRs with this and The River. Another great tune in Mavis' legendary catalog. 45. Peach Fuzz: This one grew on me quite a bit; it's cute. 44. Stay High: People that don't appreciate the greatness of Brittany Howard don't season their chicken and think peppermints are spicy. 43. I Get No Joy: One of my 2019 faves! Period! The misogyny is creeping in!42. Burning: I knew this one would be too "poppy" melodic and catchy to go as far as Light On but glad it made the top half. 41. New Birth in New England: Another favorite of 2019; I just love the low-key bluesy bounce of it. Also very glad Someone You Loved missed the cut for this.

Got a lot of catching up to do but sad to see See You Through My Eyes gone, it was my favorite discovery βΉοΈ Also sad itβs behind Overexcited...
Fighter, I Get No Joy, The River, and Burning also deserved a bit better.

55. See You Through My Eyes - The Head and the HeartNot much into this band's "wilderness" vibe. 54. Overexcited - GusterThe song's ok. The lyrics seem to make no sense, but I like the melody, but even more I liked his Accent. 53. Renegade - Dylan LeBlancThis was pretty cool. I guess I don't have to mention the fact that I heard a little of Tom Petty's "Refuge" in this. It's over the melo in the verses. I think the fact that's it titled "Renegade" is kinda hats off to Tom's "Refugee"? maybe? 52. You're Somebody Else- flora cashThis song fell into place around the same ranking on my Alt list. I just can't get into it at all. 51. Bad Case - Lukas Nelson & Promise of the RealA couple of these good rock vibed songs were cool first listens. Come to think of it this also has Tom Petty vibes. Did Tom Petty invent AAA? ;) 50. Fighter - JosephSometimes these chicks sound like the lead chick from Fickle Friends. Three for the price of one. I tend to like these uptempo AAA jams way more. 49. Fast Talk - HousesThis fails on both Alt ans AAA. 48. Saying Goodbye - J.S. OndaraThis is the song Tracey Chapman should have sung. This one took its time climbing up my list as I picked up something I liked every time I listened to it. perfect little fade out too. For a super calm song this is also pretty hot. 47. The River - KT TunstallThis one sounded so right. The buildup to the chorus worked really well. I probably would have charted it if i charted more AAA songs. 46. Change - Mavis StaplesPretty cool for Blues Rock, but I'm not a fan of her vocals. 45. Peach Fuzz - CaampThis song was a bit too "cute little song" for me. LOL at that song title. Especially "peach Fuzz Boy" WFT does that even look like. Never mind. I don't wanna know. 44. Stay High - Brittany Howardand here I thought Brittany Howard was Terry Crew's stage name. I kinda dug this, but it was about Terry Crews just like Chevy Chase in that "You Can Call Me Al" MV. 43. I Get No Joy - Jade BirdChick has good vocals. She knows how to carry a note. 42. Burning - Maggie RogersOne of the few female sung songs that didn't click with me. Does she sing with her mouth closed. Anyway the klanging of bottles in the back round also annoyed me. 41. New Birth in New England - PhosphorescentI wanted to tank this, but it wasn't good enough to tank.

Extras:
Hold Your Nerve - Boy & Bear The music is pretty decent, but the vocals kinda pull in another direction. A direction I care not to go in.
The Game - Milky Chance This act is way past its expiration date. That song was tuff to process.
For Real - Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers Not great for Tom Petty, but it's Tom Petty.
Hold You Down - X Ambassadors I dug "Boom" but I would shoot this like a torpedo into my bottom tank
Someone You Loved - Lewis Capaldi I've seen this guy get love on some music threads. Frankly to me this sucks hard.
Father Mountain - Calexico & Iron and Wine This is some serious outdoorsy Mountain music. pass.
GotItBad - St. Paul & the Broken Bones Easily my favorite Extra, but its still not a bullseye. I'll take songs with brass over all the other bull anyday.
Sisyphus - Andrew Bird More mountain top music I can't get into. WTF is a sisyphus anyway?

#40 is the 20th highest SD. Two posters part with a top 10 (one a top 5). We're serving up 8 more top 25s as well, and 10 more top 50s. In total, there are 7 bottom 30s. Among them are 3 bottom 10s and 2 bottom 20s.

Good. I'm fine with "Harmony Hall" lasting longer, but don't let it make top 10 again. We need some new blood!
