Trevor Daniel Tops Emerging Artists Chart, Thanks to 'Rising' Single
1/28/2020 by Xander Zellner
Plus, Pinegrove debuts at No. 10.
Trevor Daniel tops Billboard's Emerging Artists chart (dated Feb. 1), rising 3-1 to become the top emerging act in the U.S. for the first time, thanks to his breakout single "Rising," which returns to the top 40 of the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 37.
"Rising," which has hit a No. 31 Hot 100 high so far, gains in all three of the chart's metrics, drawing 17.2 million U.S. streams (up 8%), 7.2 million airplay audience impressions (up 34%) and 3,000 downloads sold (up 7%) in the latest tracking week, according to Nielsen Music/MRC Data.
The track also climbs to No. 25 on the Rhythmic Songs airplay chart and No. 27 on Pop Songs.
Daniel's Emerging Artists coronation is also aided by his EP Homesick, which rises 67-65 on the Billboard 200 with 10,000 equivalent album units.
Rounding out the Emerging Artists top five, NLE Choppa dips to No. 2 after 16 weeks at the summit; Don Toliver lifts 4-3; Gabby Barrett climbs 5-4; and Jimmie Allen ascends 6-5.
Plus, Pinegrove debuts at No. 10 on Emerging Artists, as its fourth LP, Marigold, arrives at No. 10 on Alternative Albums, No. 25 on Top Rock Albums and No. 176 on the Billboard 200 with 6,000 units, marking the New Jersey band's first entry on the lattermost list.

Plus it seems to have peaked on Hot 100 if the airplay doesn't take off big time.

HOT 100 RECURRENTS The week of February 1, 2020 TW LW 2W WOC Title Artist ( Peak ) Imprint | label 1 5 6 15 Without Me - Halsey ( 1 ) Capitol 3 1 1 13 Sunflower (Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse) - Post Malone & Swae Lee ( 1 ) Republic 5 Re-Entry 4 Talk - Khalid ( 3 ) Right Hand The fact that Talk came in below WM and Sunflower shows that Talk's re-entry to the charts post-Christmas was absolutely unnecessary. Talk was most likely behind Sunflower (and maybe even WM) the whole time. If Billboard does not allow OTR (which should be in the Top 50 again) to re-enter the chart next week, then it will prove that Billboard's re-entry rules are arbitrary and inconsistent.

Actually OTR didn't climb on Spotify at all, the remix at least. Other versions might have gained some traction.

The fact that you're ignoring #2 on Recurrents is the problem here. On Chill starts at #2 on Recurrents, meaning that Sunflower is below the top 50 at this point, so Talk coming back below it has nothing to do with...well, anything.

To be fair, Without Me got a big boost this week from its respective album release. You are right it’s probably been behind Sunflower though

It's not arbitrary when the Xmas songs purged a lot of stuff that would have normally stayed otherwise. They wanted to compensate for that.
A random one week bump from an album release or perfromance is not as noteworthy.

I don't think tracking social media is useless by itself, but it's weird that it counts worldwide rather than just US. Maybe they can't track like that?

^It looks like the data for the Social 50 is provided by Next Big Sound, which also provides the weekly Pandora chart. I think it is hard to segregate social activity by country, given that anybody can say there from X country even though they actually aren't. It is kind of the equivalent of all those Chinese buyers using a VPN to be able to buy Kris Wu's song from the US iTunes store, except that the intention there was not necessarily to manipulate the charts.

Eminem and Mac Miller taking over almost a quarter of the chart this week with new albums and 15 % of the top 40 I dont remember "album bombs" being a thing prior to BB pre-streaming era The positive is that it sends some older titles recurrent early so there can be a bit of a refresh when the album tracks clear Speak now and fearless had all its tracks chart cuz of individual digital sales Don't forget Mariah Carey's "Migrate" from her 2008 album E=MC^2 charting at #92. 😉
