Will someone eventually do the 1970s for these lists? Yeah cause I'm waiting. My predictions are Midnight Train To Georgia will be in the top ten of that year and so will Love Hangover. I'll Never Love This Way Again will also be higher up on the list. MacArthur Park may also move up two or three spots.

I just finished the project I've been working on since December: the top 100 songs of all time based on streaming and sales numbers. Would love it if y'all would check that out pulsemusic.proboards.com/post/8094779/thread. Now that I've finished that, I can begin working on the 1970s lists again. I have 1970-1972 done already, and will probably post the 1970 list pretty soon

Songs that missed -Are You Ready -Call Me -Come Saturday Morning -I Want to Take You Higher -It’s a Shame -It’s Only Make Believe -Lay a Little Lovin on Me -Look What They’ve Done to My Song Ma -Love Land -Mississippi Queen -The Bells -The Thrill is Gone -Yellow River
Similar to the late 60s, the original list uses a 50-week charting window that goes from the first issue dated to January to the second issue dated to December. This means no songs from the original list were caught between years or got shifted onto the 1969 list. Plus a higher cutoff line as the result of adding two weeks. And finally, Yellow River and Mississippi Queen peaked outside the top 20, and I Want to Take You Higher only peaked at #34. So it’s a bit odd they all made the original list in the first place

One thing I can easily glean from 1970 as someone who hasn't explored that year in great depth is that it was truly the peak of the Jackson 5. Amazing that they not only were able to overtake the YE #1 from Simon & Garfunkel with I'll Be There (which was #7 on the original YE), but also got 4 songs in the top 15.
I'll update the playlist when I have time, but unfortunately, I've got an early-morning commitment to get ready for.

And finally, Yellow River and Mississippi Queen peaked outside the top 20, and I Want to Take You Higher only peaked at #34. So it’s a bit odd they all made the original list in the first place this will keep happening a fair amount because as far as I can tell Billboard's formula was literally #1 = 100, #2 = 99 etc. So a chart run of 23-23-23-24-24-24-25-25-25-26-26-26 would finish higher than eight weeks at #1. Because my 1960's formulas spaced out the top 10 much further these were almost always calculated out of them, although there's a big exception in 1963.

Songs that missed -Amazing Grace -Chirpy Chirpy Cheep Cheep -Don’t Knock My Love -Funky Nassau -Here Comes That Rainy Day Feeling Again -Here Comes the Sun -I Love You For All Seasons -If Not For You -Riders on the Storm -Right On the Tip of My Tongue -The Wedding Song (There is Love) -Timothy (I’m as ironically sad about this as you are) -Trapped By a Thing Called Love -Won’t Get Fooled Again -Woodstock
For what it’s worth, while this never had a chance to make my list, Immigrant Song would have made the original list if it’s entire chart run had counted for one year. Which would have happened if it had just come out one year later

11 of I’ve Found Someone of My Own’s weeks came in the bottom 80. It also spent 7 weeks in the top 20 and 11 weeks in the top 40, compared to 10 in the top 20 and 15 in the top 40 for I’m Tired of Being Alone.
And at least Sweet Hitchhiker missed while Have You Ever Seen the Rain made it. Too bad this is the last time CCR makes any of the lists.

Good God, the early '70s were lame, but at least Have You Ever Seen The Rain, Black Magic Woman, and Your Song all finally made a Year-End! Also, I find it extremely funny how Three Dog Night winded up getting the #1 and the #101 of this year.
As for the playlist, I'm keeping it on Spotify for now since there are so many songs on it that will take some time to transfer over to a YouTube playlist that everyone can view for free. But with that said, 12 songs have been added to the playlist, bringing our total to 388.

It Don’t Matter To Me and My Sweet sneaking in the 1970 list makes that year so much better.
1970 and 1971 were great years with artists like Chicago, Bread, The Carpenters, George Harrison, and so on.

Songs that missed
Calculated out: -Ain’t Understanding Mellow -Baby Let Me Take You (In My Arms) -City of New Orleans -Day By Day -Get On the Good Foot -I Saw the Light -Kiss an Angel Good Mornin’ -Motorcycle Mama -Pop That Thang -Power of Love -Roundabout -Sealed With a Kiss -Speak to the Sky -Starting All Over Again -Taxi -The Witch Queen of New Orleans -Walkin’ in the Rain With the One I Love
Made 1971: -Family Affair
Caught between years: -Don’t Say You Don’t Remember -Drowning in the Sea of Love -I’d Like to Teach the World to Sing (In Perfect Harmony) (both versions)
This was the first year Billboard decided to start the year end window in the previous year. The official year end begins the first week of December 1971. It ended the third week of November 1972, which was the earliest any chart had ended up to that point. That record wouldn’t stand for long though...

Lol @ both versions of that infamous Coca-Cola commercial jingle getting caught between years, but ouch @ Roundabout getting calculated out… Oddly enough, another song on that list (Coconut) was also used in a Coca-Cola commercial. But the 1972 list would look a lot better with classics like Roundabout, City of New Orleans, I Saw the Light, and The Guitar Man.

Full disclosure, I have the 1973 and 1974 lists completed, but my laptop stopped working yesterday while I was creating the post, and I’ve been struggling to find another way to format my lists. So just be on hold, and I’ll have it posted whenever I can find a way

My guess is that Tie a Yellow Ribbon is going to remain the #1 on the 1973 list, but Seasons in the Sun will top the 1974 list.

My guess is Midnight Train To Georgia will be #9 on the year end. Until You Come Back To Me might be a little lower than its #11 YE position. Also, Neither One Of Us will be in the 20s of the year end.
