here's our exit interview with MoD & DistrictTwelve
how do you feel about your time in the race?
MoD: excellent, I had a really fun time on here and it helped me to get close to D12 which is really dope. I have nothing but compliments for this game and I'm really happy we made it this far
DistrictTwelve: had a great time. it was meant to be I guess, we ended where we started, our home base 5th place. it was great getting to work with and know mod. it was definitely a fun activity that I was able to do during a busy period (when school existed, remember that?) looking forward to any future seasons or whatever this game entails :)
do you think you could've/should've done anything different?
MoD: should have? no, because I think all of our picks were really solid, and if the judges didn't like some then that doesn't concern us, I'm satisfied with what we did here
DistrictTwelve: I can say it for the both of us: Cheap Thrills was not it lmao. I hope I sent in Arabesque instead, and I was also thinking about Fields of Gold by Sting. I have taste, it's just that I didn't know if those songs were appropriate for the circumstance. but otherwise, that's really it. our song selections throughout have been great I'd say.
any predictions?
MoD: everyone left is a potential winner tbh, so not really lol
DistrictTwelve: bb/walt & gates/james top 2 :)

I was this close to sending Arabesque but mylo didn't like the song so I didn't, but then the judges end up being Red and beno. that's why I flipped out lmao. (jesus, that wound up being way bigger than I expected)

Leg Positions: Elimination Table: Average Positions: Note that the team with the overall highest average has been eliminated! Also note that MoD and District's elimination table follows a consistent pattern, it grows upwards until it hits #1 but then falls back down back where it began at #5. With just two legs left, our final four have to try harder than ever to win! Who will be the final elimination before the finale? Find out this weekend (Or earlier :O ).

BTW another fun fact about "That's Life": I actually sang it at my high school talent show one year. I bought a fedora to wear just for the performance lmao

That intersection should be a fun challenge.
Also, Auckland! This was a running joke in our high school academic team based on this computer game where we competed against other teams in the state. The game would usually do one or two bad puns based on that city.

The first team securing themselves a spot in the finals is...1. Team Jeff (singingrulebritannia & jamesflame )Overall Score: 99.6Detour Rank: #1 | Intersection Rank: #1 | Roadblock Rank: #2Bonus From Leg 12: +4Detour Results:(Volcano's Out)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this is a nice little folk esque tune. both the singers here sound pretty good, and the guitar work is solid. itβs lacking something that would make me want to return to it more but what it has is really good. (8/10)Mylo: I love this! Itβs a first listen for me but itβs close in quality to Little Talks. Thankfully this isnβt like Alligator, which isnβt really my preferred style of Of Monster and Men. Will be adding this to my rotation, well chosen! (9.7/10)American Idiot: (7/10)MoD: Of Monsters And Men are mostly hit or miss for me, but boy, this is definetely a hit. John and Jane of Monsters vocals are really on point here, and the melody is also really catchy and easy listening, songs like these are pretty much unhateable and show why OMAM are as loved as they are on Pulse. Plus, the instrumentation on here is really nice, and it really helps the track develop correctly. (8.7/10)Overall: 33.4Intersection Results:(With Tanooki & Juggalo)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: first off respect for sending something more obscure. I do like the slow build over the song, but it also doesnβt sound all that unique, like Iβve heard this same formula and sound used in other songs before. so overall, itβs alright but not really all that great. (5.5/10)Mylo: This song is beautiful! Iβm almost speechless on what to say about it, itβs an excellent and well structured song that Iβm really happy to have discovered. Super smart and unique choice, hoping you the teams that submitted this do well from this choice~ (9.8/10)PREDS PRIDE: Running To The Sea is a 9.5/10, it is a catchy song with great vocals and energy, I feel like a little could be changed up throughout it but I enjoyed it (9.5/10)CC: I don't if I could get hate for this, but this isn't my type of music. In my definition this song is empty overall and I kinda wanna say anti-climatic because for me, that song keeps a current tempo, voice, production, and it needs something more. The vocals are just meh, but the main problem here is that production. It the same beat practically for that whole song. Now me being a stan for EDM, I want flavor in my music, a fast tempo, predictable but insane drops, anything to make the song feel like a party. This just doesn't feel like one. What disappointed me the most was the production at the end. The tempo rises to a faster beat and gets louder and the first thing was like, oh maybe there's a drop. Nope, the anti-climatic voice swooped in and killed my hopes. Overall, the song to me is very empty and has little personality to me, so yeah sorry not the best. (4/10)
Overall: 28.8 Roadblock Results:(Sent by Gates)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I like this a lot! it has a lot of energy to it and the baseline is pretty solid. also that post chorus guitar solo really hits the spot. the lead singer here as well deserves note, he puts on a great performance. great song! (9.5/10)
Mylo: This is yet another unconventional pick but another appreciated one. It sounds a bit tame but I am fond of the lyrics, which bumps it up a notch. Nice one! (8.5/10)
KanenrΓ‘:ke Stacey: I enjoy the overall sound here, but the song goes nowhere. First time listen here and I really want to like this more but I can't justify giving it more points. (6.5/10)
DistrictTwelve: wow I love this! this is a first listen too. it's very fun from all the instrumentals (that bridge!) to the delivery. it's easy on the ears and over time the chorus gets stuck in your head. looking at where it charted, +points for the creativity and not choosing the H100 route. I will most likely be checking out their album after this (if this somehow isn't gates/james.. lol) (8.9/10)
Overall: 33.4
Congrats on being the first team to make the final three! You'll be getting a +3 bonus for the final leg, best of luck to you.

Also locking in a finals placement it's...2. The Optimistic Cockroaches (samoπ¦ & willapted33 )Overall Score: 98.1Detour Rank: #2 | Intersection Rank: #2 | Roadblock Rank: #1Bonus From Leg 12: +2Detour Results:(Down South)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I like this song. Lorde sounds really good and the beat has some nice variety in it throughout the song. Iβm not huge on the chorus, but the verses are really solid. (8/10)Mylo: Lorde is talented and yet I find myself appreciating her songs rather than loving them. This is another example, I know what itβs trying to do but I only really find it alright rather than exceptional or even notably good. I do like the chorus but the verses donβt do much for me. (7.5/10)American Idiot: (8/10)MoD: Lorde really knows how to do a good pop song. The production on this is pretty good, for example those synths and piano are veeeery fitting to the style of the song, and really, you just hear that first verse and you already know it's going to be a great track. Her voice is so sweet, and wow does it show up on here, because this song never stops being interesting, those melodies simply don't let you, with the lyrics also being a high point of the track (9/10)Overall: 32.5Intersection Results:(With BB & Walt)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this honestly feels like such a cop out for this category. like yeah it technically fits the theme and all but it also feels kinda lame to send a Lizzo song when weβre talking about non US/UK/Canada countries. the songβs alright and all, but I canβt give that many points because this feels like a huge cop out. (5.5/10)Mylo: Lizzo is a gift to music and life haha. I love her attitude, her fun energy and so far every song sheβs made! This one isnβt in her top songs but itβs up there, sneaky yet endearing! Well done~ (9.2/10)PREDS PRIDE: Boys is a 7/10, it's a good catchy song that was a fun listen to. I feel like it could be a little more hype or have more to it but for what it is it's decent (7/10)CC: So uh, I'm not the biggest fan of Lizzo, because all her other singles only had the slightest bit of staying power on me. And oh my god, we the tiktok song from that barely went anywhere for anyone. Anyways, my real thoughts. I'm sorry I get big SexyBack vibes and that song got really annoying overtime so this really shouldn't be any different. The vocals...well there good until the chorus because she reallys just rhyming from there on. Every time that "Boys" hit it kinda hurts sometimes. However, I gotta say that instrumental part is kinda groovy with more presence of something than SexyBack. To be honest, I don't know if it's good to comparing this to that but it sounds too damn close. So meh vocals, ok but kinda groovy production, the effort is okay. Honestly, if this catches on to you I don't blame you, but I don't see it attaching to me. 7/10...I'll be merciful here (7/10)Overall: 28.7Roadblock Results:(Sent by Will)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this is pretty good. Young Thugβs verse is probably the best part about the song but Camila also sounds pretty good on it, which is a rarity. itβs basically an ideal radio hit, but aside from that thereβs not a ton of replay value here. however, with that said, I do like the song quite a bit. (8/10)
Mylo: This is a great song but youβd be lying if you said it was because of Camila haha. The production is the highlight here, and Young Thug also provides a good performance. Melodies are on point, and Iβm happy this did end up hitting it big like I hoped it would. (9.3/10)
KanenrΓ‘:ke Stacey: Maybe overplayed now but there's no denying just how strong this record is. Camila is very hit or miss vocally but here she sounds at home. (8.5/10)
DistrictTwelve: a bop. it's an earworm, the whole song is catchy. this was unavoidable at its peak, played everywhere. I love the trumpet, and I actually appreciate the rapper verse. (9.1/10)
Overall: 34.9
Congrats on making the final three! You'll be getting a +1 bonus in the finals.

We're up to the final reveal before finale. Who is the last team to be safe, BB & Walt or Juggalo & Tanooki? Who will get a shot to win the entire game?
The last team making the final three is...3. The Tomato Haterz Squad (BBπ & walt91 )Overall Score: 85.6Detour Rank: #4 | Roadblock Rank: #3 | Intersection Rank: #2Detour Results:(Down South)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I donβt real like this too much. itβs fine I guess but itβs also really repetitive and not too remarkable overall. everything also feels so processed and fake here. (5.5/10)Mylo: Production-wise, I really like this. Other than that, itβs decent enough but I definitely think the instrumental is what gives it the edge above other hits of its age, despite the often-mentioned melody being notable. (8.3/10)American Idiot: (6/10)MoD: I used to despise this song, so whoever sent this, you're lucky we're not in 2019. Still, although this is a really catchy song with a notable production, I don't think I'll ever be able to completely enjoy it. I just happen to be tired of it by the end of the song, it's not bad at all, seriously, and I totally get the appeal, but it's not for me. (6.2/10)Overall: 26Intersection Results:(With Will & Samo)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this honestly feels like such a cop out for this category. like yeah it technically fits the theme and all but it also feels kinda lame to send a Lizzo song when weβre talking about non US/UK/Canada countries. the songβs alright and all, but I canβt give that many points because this feels like a huge cop out. (5.5/10)
Mylo: Lizzo is a gift to music and life haha. I love her attitude, her fun energy and so far every song sheβs made! This one isnβt in her top songs but itβs up there, sneaky yet endearing! Well done~ (9.2/10)
PREDS PRIDE: Boys is a 7/10, it's a good catchy song that was a fun listen to. I feel like it could be a little more hype or have more to it but for what it is it's decent (7/10)

Honestly, if this catches on to you I don't blame you, but I don't see it attaching to me. 7/10...I'll be merciful here (7/10)Overall: 28.7
Roadblock Results:(Sent by BB)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: I used to love this song. However, itβs worn out on me a fair amount. itβs still a pretty little tune but it feels like itβs missing something. I canβt quite place my finger on it but itβs kinda empty at points. still a pretty good song though. (7.5/10)
Mylo: I think this is fine but it misses something to advance it into βgreatβ territory. I like really every aspect, itβs pretty much the token β8/10β song for me. (8/10)
KanenrΓ‘:ke Stacey: Sounds catchy, was a first time listen for me as I tend to avoid Halsey. Production is fine but nothing here is memorable to me. Not bad though. Solid 6. (6/10)
DistrictTwelve: this is one of my most streamed songs. I love how breezy this song is, and it's feel-good despite the lyrics. can imagine driving with this on, windows down and just singing along. it is not as fresh as it was when I was obsessed with it. (8.4/10)
Overall: 29.9
Congrats to you two on being the final team to make the final 3. No bonus for the next round but you're still in it!

And unfortunately, this leg we're saying goodbye to...4. The Caged Nooks (@doinktheclown & tanooki )Overall Score: 78Detour Rank: #3 | Intersection Rank: #1 | Roadblock Rank: #4Detour Results:(Volcano's Out)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: i do like this song a fair amount. itβs very bouncy and fun, and while the song is a little too bubblegum for me I think itβs still pretty good. (8.5/10)Mylo: One of my favourite Disney songs! This is fun, cute and still holds up today. Some Disney songs I find dreadfully overrated, most of the Lion King soundtrack comes to mind haha. But Under The Sea has always been a person favourite of mine, happy to see it chosen! (9/10)American Idiot: (7/10)MoD: What. Seriously, what. I mean, I see the appeal, like in the context of the movie and stuff, but honestly, this doesn't appeal to me at all, I mean if I see it as a novelty song it's not as annoying, but still, most of it just gets obnoxious and it's not something I would purposelly listen to at all. (3/10)Overall: 27.5Intersection Results:(With Gates & James)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: first off respect for sending something more obscure. I do like the slow build over the song, but it also doesnβt sound all that unique, like Iβve heard this same formula and sound used in other songs before. so overall, itβs alright but not really all that great. Overall: 28.8 Roadblock Results:(Sent by Juggalo)Judge's Thoughts:Nick: this is just so unremarkable. aside from Knockin Boots I donβt particularly care about or like Luke Bryan. Iβd really expect more than something so mediocre at the final four. (4/10)
Mylo: Submitting Luke Bryanβ¦ in the final four. Itβs a gutsy move! Unfortunately, I wouldnβt say it really paid off. Itβs not even bad but itβs thoroughly not special or interesting. Weak choice sorry. (6.5/10)
KanenrΓ‘:ke Stacey: Bland as you can get while still becoming a hit. Nothing here is particularly good except maybe the melody of the chorus. Blah. (4/10)
DistrictTwelve: this is an alright song. on my initial listen nothing stood out about it, and I've never really been fond of Luke Bryan. still, song's decent. the chorus is kind of catchy lol. (7.2/10)
Overall: 21.7
Sadly, you two had a rough leg, and I'm remised to say that you have been eliminated from the race. thanks for playing!

Final Leg: OntarioChallenge #1: RoadblockWhat is a roadblock? In these challenges, only one member of the team can come up with a song to send. No consulting. You'll be on the honor system here. Send in your group pm who will do this road block. They will then without consulting their teammate see the theme and send the song in individual pms. tl;dr only one person sends a song, pick who that is in the group pms, then and only then they see the theme
Challenge #2: Special RoadblockWhat is a special roadblock? This challenge operates the same way as a normal roadblock, except the theme will center around a more specialized theme (this'll make more sense once you see the theme). Different team members must complete the Roadblock and Special Roadblock Challenge #3: Detour (Choose Two!)Theme: The SeasonsOntario is known for its diverse array of seasons, each with their own distinct flavors. For this final detour, youβll choose to send two songs that each represent one of the seasons in Ontario.Winter: Winter in Ontario is freezing cold, at some points during the winter getting down to -50 degrees Celsius. Though it may seem foreboding and dark at first, the bright snow and joyful snow related activities can melt anyoneβs heart. For this detour, you must send a song that has a darker, colder edge to it, but also a sweeter and happier side.ORSpring: During Spring in Ontario, with the cold of winter in the rear window, one can see the snow melt away and the flowers start to bloom. For this detour, you must send a song that builds up to a satisfying release, just like the build up through winter to the spring bloom.ORSummer: Summer in Ontario brings beautiful lakeside sunsets, with the colors aligning to create a nearly perfect image. For this detour, you must send a song that encapsulates that feeling of perfection.ORAutumn: Ontarioβs Autumns bring along with them one of the most spectacular sights in the world: the beautiful array of trees with their changing leaf colors. Travellers from all over the globe come to Ontario to see the variety of colorful leaves. For this detour, you must send a song that is very bright in sound while still being musically and instrumentally diverse.Final ChallengeFor the final challenge, you must look back on your time as a whole in the race. To do this, you will send two songs you previously sent in that you feel define your time in the race.
Consult with your teammate and get your songs in within 48 hours or else your team will NOT have a song in that category and will get an automatic 0/10. Remember you have SIX songs to send in this time. You're always welcome to ask me and Mylo any questions you have! Good luck everyone!

any predictions?
Cynthia: Viva la radioactive cockroach came to say 'this aged well' but then I re-read the rest of my exit interview and... this entire answer aged terrifyingly well, terrifyingly fast being an intuitive is not what it is cracked up to be, folks

My roadblock pick was very close between "Might Be Right", and "1901" by Phoenix. The latter took even longer to hit #1 on Alt and I like it more personally too. Ultimately I went with White Reaper because I had more evidence the hosts enjoy the band than I did with Phoenix. The choice did what it needed to and maybe a little more, so I don't regret it.

It's a shame you didn't pick 1901, that one is at least a 9/10. Not sure how it would've done with the other judges though.

before the songs and results of the final leg are unveiled, here's a look back at all the teams that played in the race
13th Place: Lukas & @matthewlam Placements: 13 Lukas and Matt didn't have much of a run at all, so I don't have a ton to say in their reflection here. However, I'd argue that their elimination was one of the more influential ones, as it showed right out of the gate what types of songs would be successful vs what types of songs could send you right out of the race.
12th Place: The Bad Guys. (Duh.) (@antigonerising & @waffle ) Placements: 11-12 Easily the most talked about team heading into the season, many felt that this aptly named duo would not make it too far into the game. After swinging for the fences in Leg 1, these villains were not ready to cease their risky gameplay, even if it sent them straight out of the game. Alas, Ace Hood and Marsha Ambrosius did not bring them the same success as their rainbow bagels had, and we were all forced to bid adieu to America's favorite bad guys.
11th Place: Team #7 (crazyb & @chroniclea ) Placements: 9-5-11 Unlike the two teams eliminated prior to them, Team #7 actually had managed to scrape out a top 5 placement in the second leg. However, after violet performed well in the first two roadblocks, crazyb choked the leg 3 roadblock which ended up sending this early frontrunner (and my initial pick to win it all!) out of the game early.
10th Place: Team Orange (House Lannister & Exclusive ) Placements: 6-6-10-6-10 One of the quieter teams, Team Orange only actually ever placed in either 6th place or 10th place, making them one of only 3 teams to never hit the top 5. They also notably received the then lowest score given to any team, being the 0.3 from Mylo for Bohemian Rhapsody. However, even despite that they managed to pull through for another couple legs, until a subpar roadblock performance from BrianC ended up knocking them out in 10th place.
9th Place: The Rock Lovers (@jadenlefranks & shruggie ) Placements: 8-11-5-7-7-9 The youngest team in the race, these rockers were never quite able to crack the code of how to be truly successful at the race. After being just about two points away from elimination in leg 2, they bounced back in leg 3 to earn their highest ever placement in 5th. However, things only went downhill for this team from there, and ultimately in leg 6 despite a stellar detour performance Shruggie had one of the worst challenge performances to date in the roadblock, and the biggest rock fans left in the competition were sent packing.
8th Place: Team Nameless (Leo β & AmazDrag ) Placements: 3-8-7-8-8-4-8 Team Nameless peaked early on, placing in 3rd in the very first leg. However, they were never quite able to replicate that same success, and would only ever see one more top 5 placement, being in leg 6 when they placed 4th. These two overall played a quiet game, but amidst the chaos of the yield vote ended up being caught in the shuffle and got eliminated due to an overall poor leg performance.
7th Place: #TEAMTASTE (SHOOTER & surfy ) Placements: 7-2-4-9-9-6-7-7 One of the most bombastic teams in the race, these two started out strong with a 2nd place finish in leg 2. However, their luck quickly ran out, and starting from leg 4 they were only able to break out of the bottom 2 once. They commonly called out the judges whenever they had grievances, and to the dismay of many took a tasteful exit in leg 8.
6th Place: The Sickos (@drakeisskinny & Mayman ) Placements: 12-10-2-4-4-2-4-5-6 The underdogs turned frontrunners, this dynamic duo was a mere 0.2 points away from getting eliminated first. However, fortunately for them, they were able to scrape by the first leg, and in the second leg they again narrowly avoided elimination. However, with some quick plays in leg 3, they were able to place 2nd (and would've won the leg had it not been for the fast forward). They continued to consistently place in the top 5 for nearly the rest of the race. In leg 7, they realized the importance of the yield vote and attempted to form a coalition against BB & Walt. Unfortunately for them, this blew up in their face and they ended up getting yielded, though they still got through with a 4th place finish. This luck was not meant to last, however, as two legs later they arrived last on the mat and were eliminated.
5th Place: The πs (MoD & DistrictTwelve ) Placements: 5-4-3-3-2-1-3-4-5-5 Easily the most consistent team in the entire race, these two never landed lower than their bookend 5th places finishes. Up until leg 6, they rose every single leg culminating in their only 1st place finish. However, from leg 7 until their elimination, they kept falling down, until their race ended in leg 11. With a unique blend of basic pop and some indie stuff, this team seemed well poised to win for most of the race. But in the final leg, District leaned too much into the basic side and ended up passing the frontrunner title on as they were eliminated.
4th Place: The Caged Nooks (tanooki & @doinktheclown ) Placements: 10-9-1-10-1-3-6-1-4-4-4 The biggest underdogs in the race, it seemed that these two just could not be eliminated. They had mediocre performances in the first two legs, but as they were the only ones to try the Fast Forward in leg 3 they took home an easy win there. But unfortunately for them, they quickly plummeted to last place in the next leg, where they were barely saved by a non elimination leg. But in leg 5, they won their second fast forward and jumped right back up to 1st place. They were able to remain somewhat consistent until leg 8, where they AGAIN won the fast forward winning their third leg. For their last three legs as a team, The Caged Nooks kept landing in 4th place, which was good enough until there were only 4 team left, and with a crab and a country bro they were sent right out of the game.
here's our remaining teams, in alphabetical order:
Team Jeff (singingrulebritannia & jamesflame ) Placements: 4-7-8-2-5-5-5-3-1-1-1- Team Jeff seemed to be a quiet middle of the road team for the first half of the race, emphasized by finishing right around the middle in 5th place for three straight legs. They were taking lots of risks, and for the most part those risks were paying off, but not quite enough. But the duo has won all of the normal team legs since leg 9, and Gates has won the past 4 straight legs. Will they be able to keep up this momentum in the final leg, or will their refusal to take the "easy way out" end up stopping them from taking home the win?
The Optimistic Cockroaches (willapted33 & samoπ¦ ) Placements: 1-3-6-5-6-8-1-2-3-2-2- Bookended by strong performances with a weak middle game, the Roaches were the obvious frontrunners for many at first. However, after getting yielded and just generally struggling in the middle legs, it seemed that this team was no longer destined for a deep run, which was highlighted by their second to last place finish in leg 6. But since then, they've been bouncing back, winning leg 7 and staying firmly in the top 3 in each other leg. They've mostly gone for fairly well liked songs, but through that they've still managed to send some more unconventional picks here and there. Will they be able to end the season the way they started it by getting another win, or will they sputter out like they did in the middle legs?
The Tomato Haterz Squad (BBπ & walt91 ) Placements: 2-1-9-1-3-7-2-6-2-3-3 Another early contender to win, the Haterz have been performing pretty well pretty consistently throughout the whole race. Coming into the finale with the most top 3 placements of any team, they're certainly a forced to be reckoned with. But they're not infallible: they also have the most bottom 3 finishes of any team left. They started out strong in the first two legs, then nearly got eliminated in leg 3. They bounced back strong, only to nearly go out again in legs 6 and 8. But since then, they've been in the top 3 every leg, though they haven't won a leg since leg 4. Will they take home the gold like they did early on, or will they fall just short like they've done a couple times?
