As we moved into 2020, we said goodbye to the 2010s decade and for the past few weeks, I've been looking back on so many songs that I've enjoyed from these past 10 years. So I thought, "Hey, why not make a list of my favorite songs of the 2010s?" I've only been on Kurt in 2019, but I think it'd be cool to share my favorites from every year from 2010 through 2019. Originally, this was going to be a Top 100 list, but then I found that I was missing too many songs, so I extended it to a Top 150. It still felt incomplete, so I extended it further to a Top 200. There are still many songs that I unfortunately had to cut from this, but I am not making this list any bigger lol. So 200 was my final number. For the sake of being fair to each year (because I know I am biased towards the first half of the decade), there are 20 songs from every year in the decade, so every year has equal representation. At first I was only going to allow songs that charted on the Billboard Hot 100, but that became increasingly difficult to work with when dealing with the later years. So any song is eligible to be in the list. The majority of them are singles, but there are a few album tracks scattered in there. Also, this list is how I feel about the past decade at this moment. I doubt my opinions will change, but I can never be 100% certain. But we're just gonna roll with it and hopefully I don't regret too many decisions. I'm still finishing up the final list, so it'll be coming sometime soon!

Now over two months after I created this thread, I've finally finished the full list! So I will begin revealing very soon. I've also compiled a list of 50 songs* that unfortunately did not make the list and have become honorable mentions. I'll start with 5 honorable mentions before reveals begin and after every 20 or so reveals, I'll post 5 more. I'm hoping to be able to reveal the actual list in sets of 10. So with that, I will start reveals soon. If anyone else wants to be tagged, please let me know! *I say "50 songs", but I really mean 50 artists because I grouped multiple songs by the same artist into one.

Honorable Mentions: Set 1/10
HM #1: Maroon 5 featuring Wiz Khalifa - "Payphone" Year: 2012
Maroon 5 has definitely had one of the worst evolutions I've seen in a band, so much that can you really call them a band now? But Payphone stood out with its catchy hook and good vocal performance. I prefer the radio edit that doesn't have Wiz Khalifa in it, but it's still a really good song nonetheless. HM #2: Maren Morris - "My Church" Year: 2016Maren Morris entered the music world strong with her debut single, "My Church". It's a very simple track that makes good use of everything it has. The guitar is nice, the lyrics are really good, and she gives a great vocal performance here. This is exactly what I like to hear in country music. HM #3: Disclosure featuring Sam Smith - "Latch" / "Omen" Year: 2014 / 2015Disclosure and Sam Smith first brought us "Latch", which if I recall correctly, I believe this took a few listens to grow on me. I had no idea it would become as big as it did. This electronic/house type of music doesn't tend to get big in the US, but it became the perfect definition of a sleeper hit. It has solid production and Sam Smith really delivered. Then we got "Omen", which certainly didn't disappoint. They kept the same style and it worked out well. Sam Smith once again did an excellent job with the vocals. HM #4: Hozier - "Angel of Small Death and the Codeine Scene" Year: 2015Hozier did manage to snag a few spots in the actual list. This one came close but couldn't quite make the cut. It's one that I used to hear on SiriusXM Alt Nation. That's where I first heard it and I thought it sounded really good. It has a cool opening and a really good tempo when the beat comes in. I also believe Hozier has an outstanding voice and it sounds great here. HM #5: Afrojack featuring Eva Simons - "Take Over Control" Year: 2010My knowledge of Afrojack's music is somewhat limited. Hell, it took me a long time to figure out that this song was by him. I used to hear it a lot and I really enjoy it. The drop is a bit repetitive, but I think it sounds good. Eva Simons also sounds really good, with a hint of Rihanna in her voice. And the nostalgia factor is big with this one. That concludes the first set of honorable mentions. The list will begin with #200 very soon!

"Did I make money? Was I proud? Did I play my songs too loud? Did I leave my life to chance or did I make you f**king dance?" 200. Robert DeLong - "Global Concepts" Year: 2012Kicking off the list is electronic musician Robert DeLong with his debut single, "Global Concepts". Interestingly enough, I used to hear this on SiriusXM Alt Nation and this did chart on alt in early 2013. It doesn't sound much like an alt song, but it's an enjoyable listen all the way through. The production is the song's main highlight. It also has a catchy chorus and his vocals are pretty solid. I revisit this one a good amount and remember it as the song that got me into DeLong for the next few years.

"I like the kick in the face and the things you do to me. I love the way that it hurts. I don't miss you, I miss the misery!" 199. Halestorm - "I Miss The Misery" Year: 2012Rock band Halestorm come next with their 2012 track "I Miss The Misery". I usually tend to enjoy female-fronted rock bands, probably because it's not as common. And Halestorm's frontwoman Lzzy Hale has a fantastic voice. She's done multiple features that I enjoy. She's one of the main reasons why I like Halestorm. This song in particular also has great instrumentation and a chorus that doesn't fail to get stuck in my head.

"I want you here in my arms. We'll hide away in the dark. Slip your hand in my back pocket. Go and let your long hair fall." 198. Dan + Shay - "All To Myself" Year: 2019Next up is Dan + Shay with their 2019 single "All To Myself". I love these guys and it's been that way for a while now. I think they're a great example of what good country pop sounds like. I'm glad they were able to get a few hits within the past couple years, including "All To Myself". This song is catchy with a great chorus. Great instrumentation and their vocals are on point as well. I really enjoy these guys and I look forward to what comes next from them.

"Si te vas, you know I'm gonna go. Si me das, I'll take you on the low Mi Amor, bailamos hasta la diez. Hasta que duelan los pies"197. Enrique Iglesias featuring Tinashe and Javada - "Duele El Corazon" Year: 2016Enrique Iglesias has always been one of my favorites in the Latin pop genre. I feel like he's been pretty consistent over the years. I enjoy most of what he puts out, including "Duele El Corazon". The original version of the song is all Spanish and features Wisin. I personally prefer the English version with Tinashe, but both are quite good. It's a fun listen and a very infectious song. Adding Tinashe's vocals in the English version was the icing on the cake in my opinion. Apparently this was a #1 hit in several countries (I had no idea), and of course it only peaked at #82 on the Billboard Hot 100.

"Life's about joy, life's about pain. It's all about forgiving and the will to walk away." 196. Shania Twain - "Life's About To Get Good" Year: 2017Shania Twain made her big return in 2017 with her fifth studio album Now, with "Life's About To Get Good" as its lead single. In the past, Shania Twain has released some of my favorite songs of all time. It's unfortunate that she had to suffer from Lyme disease and dysphonia, which led to a weakened singing voice. But she was able to overcome that and for that, she has my utmost respect. I enjoyed what I heard from this album and this single has a fun summer vibe to it. It sounds very uplifting and upbeat, which is the main thing I love about it.

"It's gonna hurt for a bit of time. So bottoms up, let's forget tonight. You'll find another and you'll be just fine. Let her go." 195. Dean Lewis - "Be Alright" Year: 2019This next song just recently had a good placement in my Top 50 of 2019 based on my personal chart. If I recall correctly, I believe this song was a #1 hit on my personal chart. I love acoustic pop songs like this one and I've liked a handful of the Dean Lewis songs that came after this. It's a simple track, but it works well. I like Dean Lewis' voice and I think the song itself sounds really nice. It also has great lyrical content. I think Dean Lewis is a great songwriter and I'm glad this was actually a hit here in the US.

"Your silhouette is burned in my memory. Rubble left from the moment that you left me." 194. FRENSHIP and Emily Warren - "Capsize" Year: 2016I don't even remember where I first heard this. It might've come up on the Today's Hits Radio on Pandora back in 2016 (when I actually used Pandora). But this song just had my attention from the start. It's different and it's catchy. I love the male/female duet and this was before Emily Warren had worked with the Chainsmokers on "Paris" and "Side Effects". This song is just unique in every sense of the word and I still really enjoy it to this day.

"Diamonds ain't nothing when I'm rockin' with ya. Diamonds ain't nothing when I'm shinin' with ya." 193. DJ Khaled featuring Rihanna and Bryson Tiller - "Wild Thoughts" Year: 2017Right off the bat, I think DJ Khaled is one of the biggest fools in music. I usually find him quite annoying and I think he makes very mediocre music for the most part. But he hit a home run with "Wild Thoughts", which samples "Maria Maria" by Santana. I think the sample was used nicely. The guitar after the chorus fits in quite well. The whole Latin vibe of the song is something I was quickly able to get behind. I really like Rihanna's vocals here and I even like Bryson Tiller's verse. I could do without DJ Khaled's yelling, but frankly I'm just glad he was able to make a good song for once.

"When they write my story, they're gonna say that I did it for the glory. But don't think that I did it for the fame, yeah. I did it for the love of the game, yeah." 192. Carrie Underwood featuring Ludacris - "The Champion" Year: 2018Carrie Underwood went full-on pop for a moment when she released "The Champion", which is a song I'm sure those who watch sports have heard a lot. It's definitely an interesting release for her, but I do like motivational songs like this one and I love her voice. The songwriting is obviously good here. I guess it shows that Carrie Underwood is capable of so much, even beyond country music. She has a strong voice that fits perfectly here and I'm sure this song has had an impact on many people's lives. Although it's definitely not her best, I think it sounds great.

"I wasn't even goin' out tonight. But, boy, I need to get you off of my mind. I know exactly what I have to do. I don't wanna be alone tonight, alone tonight, alone tonight." 191. Sam Smith and Normani - "Dancing With A Stranger" Year: 2019Wrapping up the bottom 10 is a song that made the Top 20 of my personal chart's Top 50 of 2019. Sam Smith brought "Dancing With a Stranger", which was a big change in sound for him. But it had me hooked from the very first listen. The production is minimal, but it gives the song a certain vibe that just sounds really interesting. Sam Smith sounds great here as usual and I applaud them for changing up their sound and trying something new. Normani does a really good job as well making it further proof of why she is the best singer from Fifth Harmony. The two of them have great chemistry and they did a really nice job with this song. I think it's up there as one of Sam Smith's best songs.

"It's the same old theme in 2018. In your head, in your head, they are dying" 190. Bad Wolves - "Zombie" Year: 2018I'm sure I'll be coming out here with a few hot takes, but I stand by them just as I stand by really liking this song. Bad Wolves recorded a cover of The Cranberries' "Zombie". Originally it was supposed to include vocals from Dolores O'Riordan before she sadly passed away. So they ended up releasing this as a tribute. I'm usually not a fan of covering classics, but I thought these guys did a really nice take on it. They took the song, made it their own, and gave it a whole new life and meaning. From the instrumentation to the vocals, all of it sounds great in my opinion. Obviously it doesn't top the original. But judging it as its own song, I really enjoy it and I think Bad Wolves did a nice job with it.

"Baby don't you want me too?" 189. Carly Rae Jepsen - "Want You In My Room" Year: 2019Up next is Carly Rae Jepsen's first of a few appearances here with the 2019 track, "Want You In My Room". I really like this song and her as an artist. Ever since she put out EMOTION, she showed that she really is one of the best pop artists of the decade. She followed that up with Dedicated, which I enjoyed overall. But for me, "Want You In My Room" was the big stand out. It's so catchy, so fun, and the chorus never fails to get stuck in my head. It's a great example of what pop music should sound like. I love everything about it. There's a comment in the music video's comment section that I think sums up my thoughts on her as an artist: "Isn’t her back aching? I mean, carrying the weight of pop music for so long must have been exhausting"

"Oh, you make me feel Like I'm alive again" 188. Coldplay - "Adventure Of A Lifetime" Year: 2016Trust me, you'll be seeing several more appearances from these guys throughout the list. They brought us four albums this decade, although Everyday Life is not making any appearances here. "Adventure of a Lifetime" was the lead single to A Head Full of Dreams and it's one of those songs that's just very uplifting. It makes me happy every time I hear it because it gives off such a positive vibe. It's definitely very poppy compared to Coldplay's earlier work, but they're one of those bands who can touch on a lot of different styles and it still usually sounds good. So yeah. It's far from their best, but an uplifting song like this is nice to have every now and then.

"You're a wild night with a hell of a view There ain't no place, ain't no place like you" 187. Backstreet Boys - "No Place" Year: 2019Backstreet Boys made their big return in 2018 with "Don't Go Breaking My Heart", followed by their album DNA being released early 2019. From that album is the track "No Place", which I just think is one of the sweetest songs I've heard last year. I like this side of the Backstreet Boys and the way they harmonize here takes me back to songs like "As Long As You Love Me". It's very heartwarming and I love the song's music video. Definitely a stand out from last year.

"You're the one that talks me down And even you can't help me now" 186. Rob Thomas - "Can't Help Me Now" Year: 2019Matchbox Twenty vocalist Rob Thomas has brought a handful of great songs throughout his solo career, including this track and previous single "One Less Day (Dying Young)", which unfortunately did not make the list. "Can't Help Me Now" had me on the first listen and I knew it would soon become a favorite of mine. It has held up well with time and it's something that I revisit often. The songwriting here in particular is great and I think that is its best quality. The instrumentation and vocals are also great and the song has a catchy chorus. I've heard a lot of Rob Thomas' work, but I think this is probably one of his best songs.

"I'm gonna place my bet on us I know this love is heading in the same direction That's up" 185. Olly Murs featuring Demi Lovato - "Up" Year: 2015In late 2014/early 2015, Olly Murs brought us the second single from his album Never Been Better called "Up". It's a duet with Demi Lovato and it's one that I've loved ever since the first time I heard it. Compared to what I had heard previously from him like "Heart Skips a Beat", "Dance With Me Tonight", and "Troublemaker", this song is quite different. The songwriting is strong and I think it tells a good story. Both singers are great on here and I just think it's a really nice duet. This could very well be my favorite Olly Murs song and he has a lot of good material. But the inclusion of Demi Lovato only made things better.

"We can do mouth to mouth with no speaking We can see eye to eye in the dark" 184. RedOne featuring Enrique Iglesias, R. City, Serayah, and Shaggy - "Don't You Need Somebody" Year: 2016Next up is this underrated jam from 2016. It's "Don't You Need Somebody" by RedOne, Enrique Iglesias, R. City, Serayah, and Shaggy. An interesting lineup of artists, but this collaboration just works. I love the dance-pop production. It even has a hint of a Latin vibe and I love that as well. All of the vocals here are really good and it's just a really fun song from start to end. I enjoy it a lot and it's one that I still come back around to regularly.

"I turn the music up I'm on a roll this time And heaven is in sight" 183. Coldplay - "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall" Year: 2011In 2011, we got this gem from Coldplay as the lead single to their fifth studio album Mylo Xyloto. "Every Teardrop Is A Waterfall" is quite possibly one of the most joyful songs I've ever heard. It doesn't matter how I'm feeling at a certain moment because this song never fails to put me in a good mood. It's so fun and so uplifting. I know it was a big change in sound for Coldplay as the follow-up to Viva La Vida Or Death and All His Friends. But I personally really like the Mylo Xyloto era because Coldplay showed how pop music is done, especially with this song. I adore this and there was simply no way it wasn't gonna make the list.

"It's not the song, it is the singin' It's the heaven of the human spirit ringin'" 182. Hozier featuring Mavis Staples - "Nina Cried Power" Year: 2018I believe Hozier is an underrated gem in music. This man is brilliant and makes fantastic music, including "Nina Cried Power", which is an especially powerful track both lyrically and vocally. I love how he managed to change up his sound a little bit and push himself vocally because this is unlike what I've heard from his debut album. Here, he really shows what he's capable of beyond what he's already shown. He is a fantastic singer. I love his voice and I love this song. I really liked the Wasteland, Baby album and I look forward to what comes next for him because I think he's one of the best artists to have come out of the 2010s.

"'Cause I finally found the girl of my dreams Much more than a Grammy award That's how much you mean to me" 181. Jason Derulo - "It Girl" Year: 2011I remember back in the day when Jason Derulo was one of my favorite pop artists. I think he started out strong and then just slowly got worse. With exceptions of "Cheyenne" and "Try Me", I haven't heard a Jason Derulo song I like since "The Other Side". In fact, he's probably the only artist to have one of the best songs of the decade ("It Girl") as well as one of the worst songs of the decade ("Wiggle"). I love "It Girl" as well as two of the other Future History singles ("Don't Wanna Go Home" and "Breathing"). But I chose this one for this list because I think it's really sweet and it doesn't need the big production that those other two singles have. It's a shame to see Jason Derulo become as mediocre as he is now, but I still come back to this as well as some of his other older tracks.
