Not to be that guy but Iโm being that guy.
The eligibility period for the 2021 Grammy Awards is about halfway through at this point since it was shifted last year. Weโve been so focused on 2020 but what, if anything, has come out or is on the horizon that could (or should) be due for some attention from the Academy?
This year will also be super interesting because of the activities of the last two weeks and whether they will have any impact on the awards either next year or in years to come.
The first album that comes to mind for me is the Highwomen. Potential for a bunch of nominees, competition pending.

The eligibility period for the 2021 Grammy Awards is about halfway through at this point FFS! I'd say Post Malone and Selena Gomez are in the lead right now, though I don't expect the latter to hold up.

I really wish they would fix the eligibility period to be the calendar year. Still insane to me that in February 2021 we will be honoring music that came out in September 2019.

Halsey's Manic should be up there for noms in Pop Album category. Roddy Ricch should get some Rap noms if he suddenly doesn't get involved with serious scandals such as murdering people.

Well, their eligibility period makes sense in terms of being able to hold the show early in the year. The real issue is to tighten up the time between eligibility and the actual awards. Ideally the eligibility year would end in October with the ceremony still in January (and more like mid-January).

GF is very much a longshot for him but if The Box holds up maybe he can nab a spot in ROTY? If Adele shows up on time it's prolly a wrap for everyone else.

He was arrested last year for felony domestic violence. I think the charges were dropped later though. But obviously it was a general statement too: scandalous artists don't do very well in Grammy noms.

Unless something drastically huge comes off that album I think Manic will get snubbed the same way Without You did.

It might depend on how busy the year will be in pop department. If all the big ones (Adele, Gaga, Rihanna, Bruno Mars, The Weeknd) release something in time, she doesn't have a chance perhaps.

Halsey deserves but she hasn't really broken into the Academy's radar yet... (think Ariana before Sweetener).
"The Box", "Blinding Lights", "Lose You To Love Me", "everything i wanted" and Hollywood's Bleeding are all strong contenders. Adele could probably sweep again if she actually releases tho.
ROSALรA is technically dropping an album soon-ish.
And of course H.E.R. is a contender even if I have no idea if she's actually dropping another EP lmao.

Re: Adele, at some point she will run out of Grammy favor a la Alicia Keys and others. I would think at this point they'd feel she's been rewarded enough to where she won't get automatic nods in all categories (and certainly not automatic wins).

Ariana won her first with Sweetener โ her nominations go as far back as "Bang Bang" and My Everything (both got nominated in Pop in 2015). She was nominated for Dangerous Woman and its eponymous lead single in 2017, too. Halsey so far has 0 nominations as a lead artist. (She has 1 nomination for "Closer" and 1 for being a featured artist on Justin Bieber's album Purpose.) "Without Me" deserved a nod over "YNTCD" imo, but if that song didn't make it, I don't see Halsey getting Grammy love anytime soon. I agree that whichever single The Weeknd's team sends will get a nomination (though I will prefer "Blinding Lights"), "Lose You To Love Me" will score a nomination if it survives a bit more in the public conscious, and HER will probably score 84 nominations (1 for each category) hahaha

I would think at this point they'd feel she's been rewarded enough to where she won't get automatic nods in all categories (and certainly not automatic wins). it depends on which direction her new music leads, but she is a funny white woman making emotional soft pop music that is palatable for a really wide demographic. She won 15 of her 18 nominations but she hasn't lost a nomination since "Hometown Glory" lost Female Pop Vocal in 2010. She won all of AOTY, SOTY, ROTY, Pop Solo Performance, and Pop Vocal Album in 2012 AND 2017. She is really powerful. I do hope this trend of "sweeps" ends soon (if only voters understood what ROTY and SOTY mean!) & I hope you're right and her new release doesn't translate to automatic wins.

Halsey and Selena will be non factors.
I donโt see Gaga doing huge numbers or having a big hit, and her music has never been appreciated that much by music critics, so I guess the pop categories will be enough depending on how the year goes.
Adele will be blocked by the committee, lbr. The last thing the Academy needs is her winning AOTY 3 times in a row. Imagine the think pieces. The pop categories and maybe a SOTY nomination will do just fine.
So far I would say Post is the most obvious name for big nominations, but he wonโt win again.
Conclusion: this is the perfect opportunity for Kendrick sweep the Grammys if he releases in time.

Sorry for the double post, but I would expect a major look for Billieโs James Bond theme as well (considering that it becomes a hit)

Yeah the song is not released yet but Taylor Swift should get a nomination for "Only The Young". "The Man" should also be a contender.

Is Harry Styles finally going to be recognized? Iโd say Fine Line has a good shot at a Best Pop Vocal Album nomination, if nothing else. If they gave one to Snooze Mendes, thereโs no excuse.

Yeah the song is not released yet but Taylor Swift should get a nomination for "Only The Young". "The Man" should also be a contender. Since Lover (album) was presumably submitted for multiple categories this year, is "The Man" technically eligible? I mean she could just enter a live version or a remix, but I'm wondering if the rule was for the album to not be entered or not get nominated.
