THIS IS DUA'S YEAR. On the other hand, I would love to see nominations for "Manic" especially, that's my current AOTY, and "Rare" for Pop Vocal maybe. And LYTLM deserves some awards too.

Selena needs to go all in on LYTLM. Do not split the submissions with "Rare" or something like that.
But she's not a lock imo, even right now when we haven't heard 75% of the contenders.

Selena's album is dropping very fast on charts so I'd say LYTLM in pop category is her only chance.

What is the context for this statement? He was arrested last year for felony domestic violence. I think the charges were dropped later though. But obviously it was a general statement too: scandalous artists don't do very well in Grammy noms.Didn't stop Chris Brown from winning Best RnB album in 2012 for "F.A.M.E" and being nominated 12 times since the Rihanna incident, including last year for "No Guidance" as Best RnB song (because Mariah obviously didn't release anything during that period worthy of a nomination) 🙄

Secret Sisters and Jason Isbell will be in Americana album.
Brandi Carlile for song written for a film, and probably producer of the year maybe? (Oh wait. She’s a woman)

She’s a woman) What has Carlile produced (or is upcoming) this cycle? The Secret Sisters album and the Tanya Tucker album, which I just remembered was last year so that wouldn't count. Mostly I threw her in because she has been picking up on the production jobs as of late and there could possibly be more to account for as I'm sure she'd need more than the Secret Sisters' album to get a nom here at all.

Gotcha. This list of women nominated in Producer is truly anemic/sad: Wendy & Lisa as part of Prince & The Revolution (1984) Janet Jackson w/ Jam & Lewis (1989) Mariah Carey w/ Walter Afanasieff (1991) Paula Cole (1997) Sheryl Crow (1998) Lauryn Hill (1998) Lauren Christy as part of The Matrix (2003) Linda Perry (2018) No woman has ever won, and only 4 women have been nominated on her own. That gap from 2003-2018, though...

Not to be that guy but I’m being that guy. The eligibility period for the 2021 Grammy Awards is about halfway through at this point since it was shifted last year. We’ve been so focused on 2020 but what, if anything, has come out or is on the horizon that could (or should) be due for some attention from the Academy?
This year will also be super interesting because of the activities of the last two weeks and whether they will have any impact on the awards either next year or in years to come. The first album that comes to mind for me is the Highwomen. Potential for a bunch of nominees, competition pending. if Queen Céline's Courage is not nominated for at least BPVA after losing her husband and brother in a short time span and coming back strong as hell, i will personally drive my ass right to the Staples Center and riot. Kurt in the (better f***ing be hypothetical i swear to GOD) event that this happens, it'd be a good chance for a meet-up! we can rant against the Grammys and defend the deserving Queen together! lol I don't see Halsey's album doing much (I've heard a couple random reviews saying it felt all over the place) but I haven't heard anything but "You should be sad" and I love that song so maybe I shouldn't speak on the album just yet. Selena easily deserves at least a nomination for Album of the Year, as does Harry Styles' Fine Line. Song of the Year/BPVP for "Lose You to Love Me" should be hers as well. (Demi's "Anyone" honestly seems like a good contender for those two as well). And to be quite OBVIOUS: DUA LIPA. DON'T START NOW, SOTY/BPVP! FUTURE NOSTALGIA, AOTY! (ain't even out till April and I already know it deserves a nomination) Also, and this is really gonna be a stretch, can Panic! At the Disco's version of "Into the Unknown" score BPVP or something?! Incredible rendition; I prefer it over Elsa herself tbh! As for my main focus, country: So far from what I've heard during the eligibility period, choices for Best Country Album nominations oughta be Miranda Lambert's Wildcard, Luke Combs' What You See Is What You Get, The Highwomen's self-titled, & Jon Pardi's Heartache Medication. Among future releases of 2020, I can bet Carly Pearce and Kelsea Ballerini's self-titled albums (Carly is released this Friday, Kelsea on March 20) will also be contenders for Best Country Album. For Best Country Song/BCVP, I'd like to see Luke Combs' "Even Though I'm Leaving" score a nomination. There are others but it's almost 2am and I'm blanking on what other great singles have been released during the eligibility period.

”Don’t Start Now” for ROTY, SOTY, Pop Solo, “Physical” for Best Dance Recording and Future Nostalgia for AOTY and Pop Vocal Album. Make it happen. we LOVE manifesting.

I heard the new Cam song "Till There's Nothing Left" today and my God, that is a Best Country Song/BCVP nomination just waiting to be given. Absolutely incredible song and after hearing it I'm willing to place bets that the album deserves a Best Country Album nod...and it doesn't even come out until like June

I'm more optimistic The Highwomen will do better in Americana field. Based on released albums, the only contenders I see are Miranda and LBT. I want to be wrong but I get this vibe that Luke Combs might be like Luke Bryan (i.e. they have loads of hits but no nomination). For future releases I'm thinking Brandy Clark and Ashley McBryde. Chances are if Stapleton releases during the eligibilty period he'd be a contender too.

I think the upcoming album will likely be worthy as well.

Dua coming to collect her things as she should. I anticipate (or at least hope) for AOTY, ROTY, Pop Vocal and /or Dance Recording nominations. Speak it into existence!

Gosh, this is such a dry year so far, lmao. Anyway, I'm expecting The Weeknd to collect ha nominations & a bone throwed to Tame Impala and The 1975 to celebrate their careers.
The BET awards have served as a good booster to someone's hype in terms of Grammys in the last years, so I would pay attention to that as well.

If I'm just looking at Record of the Year, I would say as of right now:
Harry Styles - "Adore You" The Weeknd - "Blinding Lights" Dua Lipa - "Don't Stop Now"

I hadn’t realized, or maybe forgot, Sam Smith didn’t even get an Song from Visual Media or whatever mom for “Writing’s on the Wall.” They have completely dropped him after his initial wins.

But we never know if something from Justin's new album or "Memories" might make the cut depending on their longevity and chart success. I think "The Box" by Roddy Ricch might have a chance at being nominated here as well, but we'll have to wait and see. Oh, and I wouldn't doubt on "Dance Monkey" being nominated for some category, even it it might be a minor one like Best Pop Song. Also rooting for "Ballin'", "Circles" (or "Take What You Want", which is virtually impossible, though), and "Good As Hell" to get some nominations.

Adele's new album is scheduled for September, supposedly.
I would think Justin Bieber is a non-factor now.

^But, he had 4 nominations in 2017: Album, Song, Pop Album and Pop Solo Performance.

Plus 3 with "Despacito". (And two back in 2011, in addition to his 2016 win for "Where Are Ü Now").
I wouldn't completely count him out if he's able to turn the narrative around with a couple hits.

I wouldn't call that a 'favorite' though, especially since he never wins anything on his own and the Believe era got completely ignored. 40% of his nominations aren't even off the strength of his name - his lone win is as the co-lead vocalist on a producer-led track (Where Are U Now/Best Dance Recording) and he was only the featured act on Despacito. The Grammys don't seem to check for Justin unless they absolutely have to. Purpose's nods say more about Purpose than they do about Justin, IMO.

I didn't call him a favorite. His last album had multiple Grammy nominations. I just said that I think his new album will not garner any nominations.
The Weeknd comes out in a few weeks. He'll be nominated.
Maybe Alicia Keys
Maybe Sam Smith

It's always fun, yet frustrating predicting this upcoming year. I definitely think Dua(so far since it's only Feb) is gonna get some Pop noms, maybe two of the Big 4.(Record/Song). Since Billie,Lizzo, and Lil Nas X had thier big moments last years, I wonder who will be the next 3 lol(if it's even 3 this time).

2020 should have been a more exciting/fun year to watch unfold but it got bogged down by so much bad juju. I don't know about the early shows, but I don't think there is any year from the '80s onward where the top three nominees for the night were all newcomers. I wouldn't bet on that happening again any time soon. So far the likeliest 'big' nominees (5+ nominations) are:
- Adele, if the deadline has moved back to the end of September (2021 is going to be another early show + Billboard had a 'way too early contenders' article last month where they made reference to the 2021 nominees being revealed this November, which makes me think we're getting an August deadline again) - The Weeknd - Post Malone (he will lose everything though) - Gaga if her era goes really well - possibly Dua (she will need at least one other big hit if she wants an AOTY mention, but ROTY/SOTY seem like a pretty good bet for her already)

I definitely think Harry Styles is a strong contender for AOTY at this point. Billie is also in the running for Record/Song with "No Time to Die." The Weeknd and Dua Lipa seem like probable nominees at this point in time. Ozzy will likely snag at least a few nods in the rock category. Luke Combs seems probable for country. Doja Cat is likely for BNA, assuming she's eligible?
What do we think about FINNEAS getting some solo love? His EP is eligible this year and I could see him getting a nod somewhere for it.

Harry Styles didn’t get anything for his last album, and OD never even got a New Artist nod. Not sure why Styles would suddenly be a favorite. Maybe if the album produces a legitimate big hit he’d have a fighting chance?

This album is much better. It doesn't try as hard to be some sort of 80s rock legend thing.
And "Adore You" is charting well and already surpassed all his previous songs on radio. I think it makes more sense for Styles this time, even if I agree the Paul Grein "hype" built for his first album was non-sense.
I don't think FINNEAS' solo material has enough hype. He might get a few as producer, if his steady work continues. The Billie/Bond song could get in, at the very least on the Song for Visual Media category.

As if an artist can never get a nomination ever if they didn’t get one the first time they became eligible.
