Progressive R&B album? What a silly name. They should've just called it 'Best Contemporary R&B Album".

Wow. I found this part very interesting. It makes sense now.
This (having only 3 nominees) happened twice in the last decade in the Best Musical Theater Album category. Nice to know why that happened

ROTY - Billie Eilish - Everything I Wanted - Dua Lipa - Don't Start Now - The Weeknd - Blinding Lights [Winner] - Maren Morris - The Bones - Roddy Ricch - The Box - Post Malone - Circles - Harry Styles - Adore You - Megan Thee Stallion feat. Beyoncé - Savage
AOTY - Dua Lipa - Future Nostalgia - The Weeknd - After Hours - Post Malone - Hollywood's Bleeding - Jason Isbell & The 400 Unit - Reunions - Lady Gaga - Chromatica - Fiona Apple - Fetch the Bolt Cutters [Winner] - The 1975 - Notes on a Conditional Form - Harry Styles - Fine Line
SOTY - Billie Eilish - Everything I Wanted - Dua Lipa - Don't Start Now [Winner] - The Weeknd - Blinding Lights - Maren Morris - The Bones - Doja Cat - Say So - Selena Gomez - Lose You to Love Me - Dixie Chicks - Gaslighter - Post Malone - Circles
BNA - Doja Cat [Winner] - Megan Thee Stallion - Conan Gray - Tones and I - Summer Walker - Rina Sawayama - Lauv - Polo G
(I believe Roddy Ricch is ineligible due to winning a Grammy last year, but he would be in it replacing Polo G if eligible)

I like her but I'm not sure how Rina Sawayama has become such a common prediction. A BNA nomination is possible but how is she a more likely AOTY contender than Lady Gaga or Tame Impala?
Likeliness of AOTY nomination IMO...
1 The Weeknd 2 Post Malone 3 Fiona Apple 4 Dua Lipa 5 Lady Gaga 6 Harry Styles 7 Bad Bunny 8 Roddy Ricch 9 Tame Impala 10 Lil Uzi Vert
Drake is expected to release something this summer. TBD on Adele, Rihanna, and Kendrick Lamar.

"Best melodic rap performance"? "Best rap/sung performance" sounded much better in my opinion... rap/sung kind of implies there should be separate rap and sung sections I think. with the rise of singer-rappers like Post Malone, Doja Cat, post-"Hotline Bling" Drake etc. I think "melodic rap" makes sense.

"Progressive R&B" sounds weird. Why don't they just go back to "Contemporary R&B"? I feel like everyone was good with that term.
I'm not against it though. But I feel like in my head when I hear the term "progressive R&B" I'm imagining albums like Lemonade/BEYONCE, Miguel's albums, Janelle's albums, Frank's, James Blake's, etc. Close to what people would label as "Alternative-R&B".
Seeing generic R&B/Trap albums from artists like Chris Brown, Ty Dolla $ign or maybe even Justin Bieber etc. under this category will sound... weird.

I wouldn't mind though if they made Progressive R&B it's own separate category for experimental acts in R&B. Acts like Kelsey Lu, Kelela, James Blake, maybe Arca if you want to be generous.

I anticipate AOTY, ROTY, SOTY, Pop Vocal Album, Pop Solo Performance & possibly Best Music Videos noms for Dua... wow that's 5-6, it's really her year (also the level of competition is a little lower than before)

I love how all the predictions for the general categories centre around pop and hip-hop. It’s like no other genre will be considered even though they always somehow make their way in there.

For music videos, the only ones that've struck me so far as really good were the ones for Physical, Blinding Lights, and The Box. I think Say So but more on the production value and hopefully DaBaby can make a really good one for ROCKSTAR.

I feel like R&B will also be quite busy this year.
We already have Jhene, Kehlani, Jojo, Kiana Lede, Tinashe, Justin Bieber, Chloe x Halle, The Weeknd (I think he'll go to Pop though) plus upcoming releases from Alicia, Brandy & Usher.

I just think "progressive R&B" and "melodic rap" sound like category names made by people who don't know anything about music. They aren't incorrect or inaccurate but no one in R&B or Hip Hop would use those terms. Maybe I'm being harsh but I think they're weird names. I was ok with Rap/Sung Performance.

New ones are so vague, rap/sung was good and concrete.

they probably changed rap/sung to melodic rap because some rappers complained that it is not rap.. lol like drake's hotline bling, he said that song is not rap and should'be nominated in rap filed.

"TROLLZ" needs to snatch ROTY. Jk, jk.
The hype for Harry this year is way more warranted, and I actually agree with it (+ Future Nostalgia and After Hours). I hope Post Malone is well represented too. "The Box" is a no brainer. "Savage" gives the Academy a chance to reward Beyoncé again and a new name with a lot of talent (Megan), so I think it's a lock for some nods too.
I think "Rain on Me" has a better chance than Chromatica to represent Gaga on the main categories. She's a force on the Pop field tho ("Joanne (whatever that version was called)" winning is still a shocker).
I don't know if Doja's controversies will come back to haunt her come voting time; there are bigger (and arguably better) pop records to reward this year (that weren't produced by Dr. Luke). Also Camila Cabello is technically eligible for Romance, but aside from it underperforming, she has her own race-related controversy. She has gotten three previous nods tho, so who knows.

I can't remember when Camila's racism controversary happened? Did she receive her Grammy nods after or before?

I can't remember when Camila's racism controversy happened? Did she receive her Grammy nods after or before? From google, it seems it became public in the latter half of December 2019. Her nominations were all received prior in this case.
