I just don't understand why radio won't let these songs go. Radio updates are very slow nowadays.

Circles gained on radio again today. There's a government conspiracy in play to keep this song on the airwaves. It got pretty big positive callouts, so maybe that's why radio is not dropping it. Maybe it hasn't even begun to peak yet...

Circles returning to #1 on radio would be impressive. Since 2000, only nine songs have returned to #1 on Radio Songs.
Sucker (2019) One Dance (2016) Can't Stop The Feeling! (2016) Party Rock Anthem (2011) Last Friday Night (2011) Moves Like Jagger (2011) Fallin' (2001) I'm Real (2001) Bye Bye Bye (2000)

I just don't understand why radio won't let these songs go. Radio updates are very slow nowadays. I totally agree. Also, they need to weigh radio less on the Hot 100. It's ridiculous that Sucker and I Don't Care are still charting, despite months past their peak and having very little sales and streaming.

Circles gained on radio again today. There's a government conspiracy in play to keep this song on the airwaves. Scene: Washington DC, a windowless office in an anonymous government building. Camera pans in to show various government bureaucrats arguing on the need for Circles to continue being on the airwaves for the sake of the people. One of them pipes up, "Do we need to bring the Pentagon in on this? This is an issue of national security."

I would usually complain about any song outstaying its welcome on radio, but "Circles" is such an amazing song that I just don't care. It has the "Sunflower" quality that makes you simply unable to get sick of it (for me, at least π).
I do feel sorry for the Post Malone and/or "Circles" haters out there...these must be tough times for you, but as the man himself said in his #2 hit "Wow.", I know it piss you off to see me winnin' π

10,000 Hours: #21 sales + #3 radio + #22 streaming = #6 Hot 100
Dance Monkey: #5 sales + #12 radio + #5 streaming = #7 Hot 100
That's absurd how radio is weighted now. They almost killed YouTube on the charts, but they didn't adjust the formula to "help" streaming like they did to help sales and radio in 2015-2018.

And we all know the reason why they didn't adjust the formula to help streaming like they did to help sales is because streaming favors hip-hop and not pop.

I didn't want to write this, but yeah you're right... I would add country being favored by the changes to radio/sales weighting and streaming tiers based on revenue (paid, free).

I'm just not entirely convinced that 10,000 Hours is a song that people actively enjoy and are listening to, let alone in the top 10 most popular songs in the country. It's possibly the most nondescript song on the entire Hot 100 next to Memories.

Well none of Khalid's recent singles have done much so I wouldn't say they have done much as they were just released. All of Khalid hit songs have built up momentum slowly, with the exception Talk which quickly went to the Top 10. But still, none of his hit songs were immediate smashes; they've never debuted in the Top 40, and I think it took Better and Love Lies almost half a year before finally entering the Top 10. Yeah but Up All Night and Eleven both immediately fell off the charts after just one week, that didn't happen with the other songs

If Roxanne was discounted that week, it probably would have went #1.

Iβm not a post fan by any means but Circles is that hit and itβs perfectly radio friendly so I donβt think it needs to fall by any means. Radio (at least pop) is moving faster than it was this time last year.

Maybe something like Sunflower / Shallow could do it (but if Sunflower had a much slower rise or if Shallow had finally caught fire on streaming after the Oscars). I think we can rule out big name singles because they almost always shoot up to the top 30 or so and burn a lot of demand during their first few weeks.

But hey Adele killed *NSYNC's record when album sales were already in the toilet. Adele not only beat the US record, but the record for highest-seller in one week in a single country, which was previously held by Utada Hikaru. To beat out the best market for pure sales (Japan) with US sales is quite impressive.
