#4 - Where Your Road LeadsWriters: Desmond Child, Victoria Shaw Total Points: 66 someguy - 2 Troublemaker - 3 bboat11 - 3 tim - 4 ClevelandRox - 4 austin - 5 castleoblivion26 - 5 BackwoodsBarbie - 6 taylor - 7 fearlessarrow - 8 Kanenrá:ke - 9 .indulgecountry - 10 Leaving at #4 is "Where Your Road Leads", the title track and second single from Trisha's sixth studio album. Released as the follow-up to "There Goes My Baby", the song flew up the charts, only to stall out at #18. I was shocked when this one underperformed, especially with the wave of success that Trisha was riding at the time ( Songbook success, back to back CMA Female Vocalist of the Year wins, etc.). The song was marketed as a duet with Garth Brooks (who you don't really hear so much on the song). Part of me wonders if its underperformance was due to a bit of oversaturation on his part (he had 8 songs released as singles in 1998, plus the holdover of "Long Neck Bottle" which peaked at the end of 1997). Here, it was certainly a contender for the top 2 for a bit, but it wasn't quite able to overcome a couple of lower rankings.

I feel like I should give "Heart Like A Sad Song" another listen. I didn't dislike it but it was kinda just there for me.

I'm pleasantly surprised that Heart Like a Sad Song ended up so high - it's a great song. And the chemistry between Garth and Trisha on that second video in undeniable - they really belong together.

#2 - I'll Still Love You MoreWriter: Diane Warren Total Points: 44 taylor - 1 Troublemaker - 1 .indulgecountry - 1 Kanenrá:ke - 3 tim - 3 someguy - 4 austin - 4 fearlessarrow - 4 BackwoodsBarbie - 5 ClevelandRox - 5 castleoblivion26 - 6 bboat11 - 7 Finishing in second place is the album's fourth and final single, "I'll Still Love You More". The song made it as high as #10 on Billboard's Country Singles chart, staying there for two weeks. A 'pop' remix was also commissioned for the song, but never went anywhere, as it never received a push at other formats. I like the song a lot, but it always seemed to me like an attempt to recreate "How Do I Live" that never quite did it. It was pretty much the only song to contend for second place here, despite a brief fight being put up by "Where Your Road Leads" at the beginning. Despite three first place ranks, it never contended for the #1 spot.

#1 - There Goes My BabyWriters: Annie Roboff, Arnie Roman Total Points: 27 tim - 1 BackwoodsBarbie - 1 austin - 1 fearlessarrow - 1 ClevelandRox - 1 castleoblivion26 - 1 bboat11 - 1 Kanenrá:ke - 2 Troublemaker - 2 someguy - 3 taylor - 5 .indulgecountry - 8 To probably no one's surprise, lead single and biggest hit "There Goes My Baby" ran away with this. No other song was ever in contention to win. 7 out of 12 people put it at #1, and was in all but two people's top 3s. Trisha was at the top of her career when this released as a single in Spring 1998. Following the phenomenal success of her Songbook collection, "There Goes My Baby" was sent out as the first single to Where Your Road Leads, and made it to #2. The success of this single helped propel her to win a second consecutive CMA Female Vocalist of the Year trophy in 1998.

Thanks everyone for participating! I've always really loved the album, even if I never 100% warmed up to a couple of the tracks. I'll post the next album tomorrow. In keeping with the 'one a month' timeline (which seems to work, especially now!), it will be due April 30. Remember that she and Garth are going live from home tonight at 9:00 ET on CBS - I'll probably pick the next album, based on if I hear something on the special that I want to dive back into. While I used to enjoy "A Powerful Thing" I find that it just hasn't really aged well for me and more than not I just end up skipping it now. I can't really pinpoint what exactly it is about the song that I don't like anymore, but I think it just comes down to the overall vocal arrangement and production. And whereas I didn't really care for "Where You Road Leads" back then, I now find that I like this one much more now lol. I suppose the song just resonates differently with me as I've gotten older. The same thing can also be said for "I'll Still Love You More" as I also find myself liking this more now overtime. That said, it probably wasn't well-suited for a single and as I had mentioned in a previous post I think that "Wouldn't Any Woman" might've made for a better fourth single. I'm thrilled that "Heart Like a Sad Song" came out as the top ranking album track. I was keeping my expectations for it a bit low because I didn't want to end up being disappointed had it left earlier, but it ended up receiving a lot more support than I thought it would. I'm glad to see I'm not alone in liking this son! I don't think there was really any competition at the top as most of us pretty much expected "There Goes My Baby" to win...and a much deserved one at that! Thanks for jumpstarting the Trisha album series, someguy , and I'm looking forward to revisiting more of her albums.

There Goes My Baby is the outstanding track on this album and I'm glad that it won this rankdown. It's one of the first Trisha's songs that I heard and I still like it a lot.
Where Your Road Leads as a whole it's an alright album - it's a plesent listen and I enjoy almost all songs on it but for me other than There Goes My Baby there is no song memorable enough that I would think of it a year from now and want to listen to it again just out of the blue. Maybe my expectations are too high but Trisha did set the really high standards with Heaven, Heartache and the Power of Love at least for me.

I'm so happy that "There Goes My Baby" won cause I love that song. "I'll Still Love You More" did not age well for me, I don't enjoy it as well as I did when I first heard it. Not sure why but I do still like it.

Well at least my #1 made the Revenge of the Best IV rankdown!! Something about "I'll Still Love You More" is just too beautiful for words and I couldn't justify putting it anywhere but #1. Thanks for hosting someguy and can't wait for the next one!

I'm watching the special (specifically for Trisha) and if we did her debut next I wouldn't mind. Hearing her signature song was a treat!

I’m even wondering if we can do two albums at once, and also do “Let’s Be Frank” after her wonderful closing performance. Would people be interested in that?

I'm just one of us but tbh for me at least that would be nice. It would move the album series along a little faster by doing two at once each time (if you would want to do two each time of course). And she'd get to have more chances in the RotB/BotB rankdowns

I'm definitely game for two at once. Albums are smaller and it does get us through them quicker (it is why I do 2 each for Lee Ann, Patty, and Pam)

Interesting combination. I like her self-titled album. Let's Be Frank on the other hand... When I first listened to it, I didn't even get to the end (or to the second half to be honest) - maybe I will like it more this time but I'm skeptical because, with few exceptions, I don't even like this kind of songs (no matter who sings them).

There is a difference

The music of Let's Be Frank isn't something I usually love either, but her voice can pretty much sell anything to me. It's certainly an album that I've enjoyed more the more I hear it.

Although I don't really go out of my way to listen to big band albums I do love the genre. I've always enjoyed Frank Sinatra's music as well so I'm already quite familiar with all of the songs Trisha covered for this record. Also, if anyone happened to be watching PBS the other night and saw the Garth Brooks Gershwin Prize ceremony Trisha actually sang "For the Last Time" which is a track from the album. On a random side note, George Strait has always talked about doing a big band album and I hope at some point in the near future it comes to fruition. I can only guess that Trisha happens to be a big fan of Frank's as well because she also covered "Somethin' Stupid" with The Mavericks which they sang together at the ACM Awards in 1996:

I always thought that it should have been a single from Music For All Occasions.

This is the first time I heard Trisha Yearwood version and I think it's great.

Damn "Bring Me All Your Lovin'" didn't even make top 5, I was hoping it'd cross that line at least. It's a stunning song and vocal, I may actually like it better than Allison's version though it's close. Really it and "There Goes My Baby" are the only two songs I ever really go to from this album.
