Saweetie and Arizona Zervas don’t have established fanbases, that’s why they aren’t here. Having one viral song doesn’t guarantee your spot on the list unless it seems like you will having staying power in the industry. Those two are both likely one-hit wonders who nobody will here from again, their absence from this list won’t be missed. Doja Cat is beyond XXL at this point, it would’ve made more sense to include her last year I think she’s a bit too big for it now. Lil Pump was on it in 2018 and he was already huge

Ms. Amala already has two albums releases on major labels, and she has two top 40 hits with Juicy and Say So (potentially three if Boss Bitch becomes big). She's no longer a freshman of the game. Yes Lil Pump had Esskeetit and Gucci Gang before his XXL Freshman announcement but he was still newly signed to a major label and Harvard Dropout wouldn't be out until the next year.

Doja Cat is currently blowing up, but she feels a lot less established then Lil Pump and Say So only really became huge in the last couple months. Pump was a little egregious, but it's not like there haven't been freshman in similar situations (Fetty Wap, Gunna, etc), and if they're eligible, she absolutely should be too, especially she's on track to have a far more successful career then any of the other members of the 2020 class. imo she either is being hidden or she turned it down.

Will they even be able to do the freshman list this year? Even if they do make a list, surely only a handful will be able to travel.

I miss the days where most freshmen were unknown/hadn’t blown up yet.

www.youtube.com/watch?v=kXLn3HkpjaAList up now! 24kGoldN (Let's GO!), Baby Keem, Calboy (idk why he made it waste of a spot imo), CHIKA, Fivio Foreign, Jack Harlow, Lil Keed, Lil Tjay, Polo G, NLE Choppa, Mulatto and Rod Wave
Not a bad list, but there shoulda been more women this year like Flo Milli, Ashnikko, and DaniLeigh

Full list: NLE Choppa, Jack Harlow, Mulatto, Lil Keed, Chika, Polo G, Lil Tjay, Fivio Foreign, Calboy, Rod Wave, Baby Keem, Pop Smoke (posthumously), and 24kGoldn.
Wtf is Calboy here? Pretty sure everyone forgot he existed.
CHIKA is a surprise. She's cool, I listened to her EP a few weeks ago, but I did not expect her to have this much clout. I would've gone for Yung Baby Tate myself since she's new to the scene and signed to Dreamville but CHIKA's okay.
Mulatto is annoying, why is she here.
The rest are standard. Many of them did blow up last year but at least they kept their momentum this year and didn't fade away by the time the last came out. It isn't a repeat of 2018.
Sad though Pop Smoke couldn't see how successful he'd be this year. RIP.

I like this list. CHIKA is good and fits XXL freshman list as she is underground. Overall, I’d give this crop of freshmen 6/10.

Aside from the ones that've already blown up like NLE Choppa, Jack Harlow, Polo G, Lil Tjay, and Rod Wave, I think Fivio Foreign might be successful or at least reliable for the next few years. The NY Drill sound is blowing up big and he seems to be leading the charge now that Pop Smoke's gone.
24kGoldn will have a massive hit with Mood but I don't expect I'll hear much in the future.

Freestyles Ranked from Worst to Best:
Lil Keed - bruh
Calboy - forgettable
Mulatto - I've actually grown to like Mulatto from her singles and her album but this was a let down. I feel like this is one of her songs she hasn't recorded because this would be fine with a beat but without it her flow sounds awkward and slow. I actually had to rewind a few times because her emphasis on certain words felt so off, I had to check if she was actually rhyming.
Lil Tjay - it's fine but it's a bit too reminiscent to 20/20 in the flow and content, would've liked to hear something new from him.
24kGoldn - the singing is gets a bit too American Idol audition towards the end but before that it was good. One of the better singing freestyles we've had but still not amazing.
Rod Wave - The longest freestyle, and it does go a bit too long but I like the flow and emotion.
Chika - this is good and I love the storytelling but...I wish it went on longer. It's the shortest after Lil Keed and it's a bit too short, I think there could've been more but it just sadly didn't happen.
Polo G - I've seen a lot of people put this as one of the best but I thought it was just okay. Idk, his flow is alright and the bars are good but I didn't see much to really write home about.
NLE Choppa - this one was a surprise for me. Not a fan of his music but I loved his energy in this when, especially when started rapping again when it looked like he was done. I like that.
Fivio Foreign - I've seen a lot of people come down on this freestyle but I actually love the flow switches he does. Obviously this would fit better with a beat but didn't feel jarring to me, it actually sounded natural.
Baby Keem - another divisive one. I get if you don't like the hushed quiet delivery but again, I thought it brought something new to the table, and I like the storytelling and how dark he got, he was able to create a really grim, almost gothic atmosphere really quick.
Jack Harlow - I think of the freestyles, Jack had my favorite lines and bars. Love the storytelling and the detail he put. And while the flow isn't new or unique, he was the one that showed the most potential so he gets the top spot.
