Kinda surprised Hits hasn't realeased a forecast for Bieber's first week sales, even Harry Styles got one. Initially, I thought Bieber would clear 500k pretty easily, but the hype really isn't where I thought it would be a few months ago. I see him landing around 400k-450k, with the streaming and pure numbers being about half and half.

Here's hoping that they time its release near or at "Blinding Lights"' radio peak so that it can potentially go number one here stateside (and in Canada).

Roddy Ricch should be in a celebratory mood. Itβs just days after the 21-year-old (born Rodrick Wayne Moore Jr.) won his first Grammy Award β for best rap performance, as a featured artist on Nipsey Hussleβs βRacks in the Middleβ β which capped off an especially eventful couple of months. His defiant single βThe Boxβ has now spent five weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100, and his debut album, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial, topped the Billboard 200. But Ricchβs demeanor is stoic, and itβs not until I finish rattling off that list of accomplishments that he slowly opens up.
βI always tell people where I grew up,β he says of the Los Angeles neighborhood of Compton. βI went to sleep to two things: a mariachi band for a quinceaΓ±era or gunshots. I never want to go back to that, and I never want the people around me ever to have to go through that continuously. Itβs so much bigger than a trophy. Itβs like, βYeah, we won, but what did we really win?β β
That brutal candor, which suffuses his unflinching lyrics, is one reason Ricch is the No. 2 most-played artist on YouTube so far in 2020. Thereβs no official music video out yet for βThe Box,β but his storytelling seems like enough to power his streams: His daily views have reached as high as 11.5 million, with βThe Boxβ accounting for over 197 million total on the platform (through its lyric, audio and fan-made videos).
Ricch has been using YouTube since he was an unsigned artist eager for a breakthrough. His first music video, for βBaby Boyβ in 2017, depicted his strained relationship with his stepfather and was filmed in the heart of Compton. βBack then, we had such a naked mind,β recalls Ricch. βWe were showing off our realities. Like, βThis is what happened when I was 15.β I couldnβt make this shit up. This is my real-life story.β
Dallas Martin, senior vp A&R at Atlantic Records, Ricchβs label, says Ricchβs impulse to show his everyday reality on film is the reason fans gravitated to his YouTube videos in those early days. βHeβs so attached to his team and his hood,β explains Martin. βHe always wanted to make sure he let everybody know how important where he came from was to him. [And] from βEvery Seasonβ to βDie Young,β we always wanted to put a video out for his fans to attach to. YouTube always has been that platform for us.β
Ricchβs second video, βFucc It Up,β filmed in a rundown trap house, was his first to earn a million views. His next, 2018βs βDie Youngβ β a gut-wrenching tale that speaks to the fear of being shot and killed by the police β was seen 85 million times, peaked at No. 99 on the Hot 100 (his first solo record to debut on the chart) and earned him co-signs from Nipsey and Meek Mill. YouTube noticed, too: In November 2018, Ricch was featured in its Artist on the Rise program (spotlighting young acts on the serviceβs U.S. trending charts), and a year later, YouTube Music gave him billboards. βCompton, rap music and YouTube are lucky to have an artist explode on the scene like Roddy,β says Lyor Cohen, YouTubeβs global head of music. βWe feel so fortunate to be able to play a small part introducing him to fans around the world.β
βA nβa used to drop songs and get only thousands of views,β reflects Ricch. βItβs crazy. My brother and me, we used to be like, βWeβll put this video out tonight, and if it did 1,000, it did good.β Now, I dropped βBoom Boom Roomβ Jan. 22, and in a day, I got 1.5 million.β (Ricch and his team declined to comment on his YouTube earnings.)
Ricch promises a visual video for βThe Boxβ soon, though even without it YouTube streams have helped him level up to much more established pop stars. The track zoomed to No. 13 on the Hot 100 on the chart dated Jan. 4, nearly a month after his album release. Two weeks later, it seemed primed for a showdown with Justin Bieberβs βYummyβ as the singer urged fans to stream his record on every platform β and Ricch, in fact, encouraged his own fans to do the same for Bieber. Yet in the end, βThe Boxβ beat βYummyβ to No. 1. A week later, Ricch found himself in a similar position as Selena Gomez released her comeback album, Rare, and exhorted her fans to buy it. Again, Ricch advocated for his followers to support her β βI always have positive intentions,β he says. Rare did hit No. 1, but Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial was just behind it.
For Ricch, these apparent streaming battles were no stress. By Feb. 4, Please Excuse Me for Being Antisocial was back at No. 1, unseating Eminemβs Music To Be Murdered By. And βThe Boxβ continues to dominate on the Hot 100 and YouTube, where it has charted in over 30 countries.
βRoddy always has had a clear artistic vision,β says his manager, Moe Shalizi. βAnd YouTube has been an amazing partner that has helped us carry it out and deliver it to millions worldwide.β

i heard some people theorizing After Hours would come out tomorrow for Valentines Day.
Blinding Lights could probably make a run for #1 or at least #2 if he drops the album tomorrow, especially if he goes full shameless Heartless/HITR and makes some single bundles

Just earlier today there was a discussion on ballads. I am glad Billie gave a shot at it in her own style. Good production. It is also definitely on par with the other Bond classics.

speaking of #1s, will The Box's momentum run out? I've been consistently wrong when thinking about how it's declining and it seems unstoppable. I'm worried we'll have another Old Town Road and I can't take that until at least 2025

I'm worried we'll have another Old Town Road and I can't take that until at least 2025 OTR was a much bigger deal, if The Box spends 19 weeks, it will have to be extremely lucky for there not to be any major releases in the spring and it will have to continue being strong for that long. If it spends 10-12 weeks then it's no big deal cause we've seen those runs before for other songs.

Can't wait for After Hours. I hope it's more experimental with electronic music like Starboy was. It's a great sound for him.
I see Billie's Bond theme doing well overseas, not sure how it'll do in the US. I expect a Top 10 just cause it's Billie but I'm still rooting for EIW to get a new peak.

Rodeo isn't going to be a hit. Nas really needs to make some new songs Seriously, 7 songs after 1 year. His team really slowed his career momentum. He is the exact type of artist that needs to be constantly throwing songs out there in the streaming era, he is seen as a meme/novelty to lots of people and that's about it. Most people also see him as a one-hit wonder, so I have no clue as to why he'd basically step away from releasing music by the time his breakthrough hit was leaving the charts. No features, no one-off songs, DJ collabs, etc. He should've been doing something the past months. Seems like his label doesn't know what to do with him.

Thug and Travis might carry the song enough but considering they aren't in the song until later I feel like a lot of people will just tune out

I don't know if this new Migos song will have enough staying power. They are clearly passed their peak. Billie Eilish probably will debut high. Expect some album bombs from A Boogie and that mediocre Justin Bieber album.

Can someone tell me what (-0.00) means ? Does it mean it didn't lose any thing but it didn't gain either.

Expect some album bombs from A Boogie and that mediocre Justin Bieber album. Please tell me that there is a standout song on the "Changes" album. I have not bothered to listen to the full album because the beat and lyrical styles of the few I heard are repetitive in each song. They all sound like sampled versions of Yummy.
