actually i'll just post a list of artists waiting for their one hit wonders
Superorganism 100 gecs Caroline Polachek Denzel Curry Charli XCX (already not a one hit wonder but her in 2014 and her in 2019 are two entirely different people) Half.alive Tessa Violet Hobo Johnson
all artists that are just barely on the cusp of being relevant but if public consciousness changes or a meme comes along they could easily get big

Iβm honestly tending to believe that yummy was a troll song and something like intentions was supposed to be the true lead single but scooter prob told him to release the former as a lead single for some reason The fact that it was release the week before Selena's album is good enough evidence for me that there was something fishy going on.

Also thereβs no way 100 Gecs actually gets a hit, if Dance Monkey gets that much backlash over the voice, imagine if Stupid Horse, or dare I say 100 db cloud becomes a hit. Half of Pulse will just riot

Hoping Life is Good is able to hold at number 2 for its fifth week, as it's something thatβs never been done before.

Itβs interesting that Donβt Start Now has risen on streaming after it rose on radio. Usually itβs the streaming trends that influence radio but I guess not

I was expecting at very least an alt push for βSo Hot Youβre Hurting My Feelingsβ at this point. Superorganismβs βSomething For Your M.I.N.D.β is in the middle of a resurgence thanks to TikTok and is currently under Cool New Music at pop radio. 100 gecs could definitely have some success, but theyβll never get a song to chart at radio. Hoping Charli pops off again soon, I wish βGoneβ got an adds date. When Denzel Curry pops off, I doubt itβll be a small deal.

But Denzel and Hobo's stuff are really good and I hope both of them get a hit. Edit: add oliver tree too he's pretty good. I've been a fan of his since he dropped Hurt.

No, the previous record (which Life Is Good has now tied) was Mariah's "Always Be My Baby" which debuted at #2 and spent its first 4 weeks there before snagging two weeks on top.

Most weeks at #2 after debuting there is kind of a random record

I think he means that when a song is doing really well (today it's doing well in streaming), radio usually plays it more. In this case, DSN was already doing well for streaming but then exploded more just as radio lost steam.

Talk about unusual collaborations. Get Ready by Pitbull featuring Blake Shelton is at #6 in iTunes currently.

According to the most recent Billboard article, no. βAlways be my Babyβ by Mariah Carey did it with 4 but went to #1 in its fifth week.

In this case, DSN was already doing well for streaming but then exploded more just as radio lost steam. It went to the top 10 on radio before it reentered the top 10 streaming. I assumed it was consistent- I didn't know it was declining

The inclusion of βI guess notβ was pointless because of one example that went against the trend.

Y'know if Joji and BROCKHAMPTON are able to get charting songs due to amassing a large cult fanbase, it's only a matter of time before other beloved acts finally make their way onto the Hot 100. I wouldn't be surprised if Tame Impala finally get a hit with Lost in Yesterday poppy finally gonna bring back metal to the hot 100 I don't think so. I Disagree debuted at #130 on the Billboard 200 a few weeks back. But if there's any artist who could possibly bring metal back to the Hot 100 and has been proven to be very successful, I'd put my money on Ghost.

I think rock has to make a resurgence first before metal gets there. The closest thing recently was Fear Inoculum and that only got to 93. Altβs been getting a bit better as of recently, especially considering an actual rock song is #1 there! Iβm crossing my fingers some popular TikTok teens hear it and make widespread videos featuring the song so it boosts a lot in popularity and gets it on the Hot 100.

Somehow a Pitbull/Blake Shelton collaboration charting would be less strange than Pitbull's most recent charting song which technically was the Dame Tu Cosita remix.
