2020- the year we brought disco back. Doesn't it come back every few years? Lol! Meanwhile, what happened in 1980 that there were so many long running (for the time) #1s? 8 songs had 4 or more weeks at #1, and 3 others had 3 weeks at #1. renfield75 |

Nicki got backlash on talking about sex also it isn't excluded to Doja,Cardi,City Girls, and Meg(and I'm not even a Nicki fan btw ) it seems to be the trend with female rappers.It's all fine and dandy when male rappers brag about having sex with everybody and talk about how much money they got but the moment female rappers do the same thing people want to throw a hissy fit. Sorry for the long rant I had to get it off my chest 😔.

We have this sense that longer #1s show strength, but often it is because of cultural apathy.

Yes, I think so. The consultants Guy Zapoleon and Ross on Radio have suggested that we've been in a stagnant doldrum era for three years. Due for an uptick in a year or two.

What would it take for Gaga to debut at number one sales and streams wise (excluding airplay) and surpass The Box’?
+100K sales & 25-40M streams (w/YouTube) or more?

Say So isn't bad but my problems with it haven't gone away. In that, if you gave this to other acts like DRAM or H.E.R. or any other R&B who've dabbled in disco, nothing would change. Her earliest song - So High - had a similar problem and I was hoping that she had grown out of that style since then because she has shown more personality than just "really sexy thicc girl". For one, Say So is easily one of the top 3 best songs on that album. I was so happy to see it go viral on TikTok. And second, you act like she was planning on that song going viral. I think she was gonna make Like That the last single but saw Say So was going viral and delivered. Listen to Shine, Rules, Addiction... all great songs on the album that aren't just about her being thicc. |

My problem is that she was doing interesting and funny and clever on her joke songs and on Amala and it seems like on a major label, a lot of her lyricism lost some of her punch and flair. I've ragged on her recent album a number of times but I actually think that 'Rules' and even 'Bottom Bitch' shows some of that unique personality I liked and was excited about. Yes she has a unique voice, but if major label is just going to have her do kinda basic disco sex songs that every one else has been doing, it's seems like a waste. |

Genuinely confused how Say So hasn't been the biggest hit chart-wise or stream-wise since it is nearly double the amount of views over Old Town Road, and way bigger than Truth Hurts on the platform. I still don't get how Roxanne (before it got big on radio) or Falling are above it on both streaming and charts.

Looking over the years, faster uptempo music tends to correspond with faster chart turnover; the number of number ones spiked in the late 70s (disco), late 80s (teen dance pop), and early 10s (turbo pop). When AC took over in the very early 80s and 90s, the charts slowed down. When mid-tempo hip-hop took over in the mid 2000s and now, the charts again slowed down. It's not a total parallel, but in general it's true. |

I'm all for fun, more energetic music, especially when it omits a tacked-on, non-organic rap break. Let's shake up these charts and flush out depressing, dreary, monotonous songs.
