I don't get it. If BTS has an extremely loud and active fanbase, how come their songs don't last very long on the charts? You think that an insanely passionate fanbase like that will make their songs go straight to the top of the charts.

It’s weird how blinding lights might hit a billion streams on spotify in a couple months but the music video on youtube doesn’t even have 50 million views yet

Also i checked the box and dance monkey’s streams on spotify and holy shit for the latter is that the fastest song to hit 1 billion?

Because its not something you can do forever. Yea they’re passionate but after a while they just eventually cant keep up. Thats why the first weeks are big and then they just collapse week by week

I complain about radio a lot but it does benefit songs I like. I just hate that it is the reason half of these songs are on the charts when they are nowhere to be seen on streaming services.

I like when radio compliments massive songs on streaming platforms to help them better their run on the charts. But most of the time at this point, it’s just an inconsistent platform

How can you tell me a song that’s charting high is only getting support from the radio and is nowhere to be seen on streaming? Also sometimes i see songs that would be high, like top 20 for example, on both Spotify and apple music, yet linger in the 30-40 range because radio still counts as a fair percentage that runs the chart

This is a constant complaint on here and I find it odd because it presumes that the same people who listen to radio also listen to music via streaming and it's just not the case. People who primarily listen to music from the radio aren't frontrunners when it comes to new music or the biggest current hits. They're laggards (at this point, by definition) because they fall behind the newest music and hear the hits that are on the radio. They're less likely to be aware of the up and comers or the out-of-the-gate tiktok smashes by new artists who haven't had a hit anywhere before - and they won't hear those songs unless (or until) radio picks them up.

Songs getting support on radio are songs these people are listening to and, I'm sure in most cases, songs they like or at least don't mind hearing. These people aren't using streaming services and that's why these songs aren't still on streaming charts because the people who do use streaming for their music have already moved on.

I really don't understand this argument that radio should count less than it does because they play older songs than people who listen to streaming, or the argument that songs that get primarily radio-only support are a bane on the chart. Do the people who listen to these songs count less because they're slower? Why should they be undervalued?

Hot take I heard a while back I kind of agree with: there isn’t that much of a difference between radio and passive streaming, and they should have the same weight.

But I agree that it’s pretty dumb to complain about a platform when it’s helping a song you don’t like and then turn around when it’s helping your faves.

I agree on it being a inconsistent platform. I get why it is counted a fair percentage but it's like c'mon it peaked already why it's still charting? Radio is my initial reaction to songs like I don't care and sucker .I know nothing won't change and I'm basically beating a dead horse but I'm just saying

KPop has a passionate and growing fanbase but the appeal is still not broad enough to get mainstream success, they are not yet clicking to the casual listener, successful but quite insular. They stream but I think more on YouTube? As music videos are a big part of the KPop world but maybe they just don't connect as much to audio-only so their songs don't do well on Spotify and Apple Music.

Not from there but have been following their charts for years
BENEE has a lot of potential, I could see Glitter doing something on multiple formats but it's always hard for international artists to score a Hot 100 hit

if 60M people are still listening to the song on radio, it still deserves to chart.. you may not like radio holding on to songs but that's just what happens.
