Okay, so those two Fleetwood Mac songs ("Say You Love Me" and "You Make Loving Fun") came to mind when I heard this duet, and again, I'm pretty sad that this is out so soon, but I guess age was a contributing factor along with the surprising fact that it barely charted at all! (#59 on BB, #48 on RPM in 1980)

I was about to say that we see one of her first #1 hits next, but that's only partially true (#1 in Canada, but #5 in the US in 1972) as her sophomore single "Love's the Answer" makes an early departure, despite a near last minute top 20 from kamala 2024 truther.

"Feel Right" was one I thought would be a contender for the bottom, it didn't really appeal to me at all.
I'm very glad "Dream Lover" was out early, I never cared for it and it's one of her singles I remember from when I was a kid. (My grandmother liked the song and would play it, never heard it on the radio lol)
"Love Knows We Tried" and "Greener Than The Grass" are both solid but I can see them being forgettable for some so them being out makes sense.
Pulling for my #70 any time now! lol

bboat11 our lists keep going back and forth, what did you do swap out some of my rankings as your own?! :kii: Also glad that none of my biggest losses have happened; although I don't think it's going to be much longer before this rankdown really starts biting me.

Not sure what I would’ve predicted for the bottom five, but there weren’t really any surprises amongst those that were the first to exit the rankdown. While I appreciate the sentiment behind “Daddy and Home”, it’s a rather forgettable song and so for it to leave in last place isn’t unexpected.
I have a soft spot for “You Are So Beautiful” hence why it was a bit higher on my list than most, but any rendition of this classic song is bound to get more low-end rankings than her original material would. I will add that Tanya’s vocal on this are really good!
As much as I respect Jim Lauderdale and love Tanya, “Love’s Gonna Live Here” was an easy last place for me. I enjoy the original by Buck Owens well enough, but this remake just stood out like a sore thumb amongst her discography as a whole.
The final two songs out in the bottom five (“Baby I’m Yours” and “It’s a Cowboy Lovin’ Night”) aren’t all that memorable and were also released during a period of time in which she saw a decline in her success both critically and commercially. Really anything from about mid-1975 to 1983 more or less falls under this umbrella (with “Texas (When I Die)” and “Pecos Promenade” being the two exceptions).

Speaking of her commercial lull between mid-’75 and ’83, only one of the songs to round out the bottom ten weren’t from this time period. “Love Knows We Tried”, “Greener Than the Grass (We Laid On)”, and “Feel Right” are all run-of-the-mill songs that don’t really standout on their own. “Dream Lover” is the only song amongst these that I think is the catchiest of the bunch, but even then it’s kind of an unwarranted cover that certainly gets lots in the shuffle here.
I suspect we'll see a lot more of her songs leave from this same timeframe and I doubt many of them will be left standing once we get further into the rankdown.

We resume the rankdown (at long last, right?) with more normal looking placements for a top five hit back in the mid-70s (which also topped the country charts in Canada!). Nothing too fancy outside of George Strait Junkie losing his last place...

Had it not been for the dated sound I think "Don't Believe My Heart Can Stand Another You" would've fared a bit better. I thought this was a fun song myself and wish it could've gotten about ten spots higher.

Oops! kamala 2024 truther loses another top 20. This soundtrack single from Smokey and the Bandit II was actually quite successful, peaking at #10 on US country radio and #7 on Canada's side. Cute, but honestly not something I'd revisit often.

"Pecos Promenade" was one of Tanya's rare hits that she scored during this time in her career as the three singles before this failed to even chart. I agree that this isn't something I'd particular revisit, but I do consider it to be one of her classics. It also isn't out of the ordinary to hear this occasionally on the radio down here in Texas.

Given America's racial reckoning over the summer, "I Believe the South is Gonna Rise Again" made it a bit further into the rankdown than I thought it might. I sent my list in way back in March well before the events of the summer, so I can't really say if my ranking for this would've been lower because of that. I revisited the playlist before this launched and as I listened to this again I was curious what thoughts might've crossed y'alls mind as you listened to it.

Slightly more polarizing than the rest we've seen so far, "I Believe the South is Gonna Rise Again" made the top ten on Canada country radio, but only peaked at #18 stateside (the US) in 1974, becoming her least successful single from her third studio album Would You Lay With Me (In a Field of Stone).
I'm sure some of y'all were wondering where this one was at, am I right? ;)

Eh, no cover will ever match the greatness of a Buddy Holly original. This was also an odd choice to release as the first single to an album.

Also, I know we've joked about ranking album covers before and I would have to say that the one for TNT has always been my least favorite cover of hers lol.
edit: Actually, the album cover for her debut album is really quite hard on the eyes as well and a bit trippy
