8Coming in at #8 on our rankdown is “Sendin’ All My Love.” This was a single off their album Magic. It peaked at #72 on the R&B chart and #88 on the Hot 100. It has a freestyle vibe to it that reminds me of a cross between Expose and Miami Sound Machine. It was co-written by Stephen Bray, a frequent collaborator of Madonna in the 80s. Average ranking - 8.14 Highest ranking - 6 Lead vocal - Elizabeth George - 6 born - 6 Doc Indie Party Rock - 6 Mirago - 10 jenglisbe - 9 Soulsista - 8 Ky - 12 With the next reveal, we lose our first individual #1 ranking.

7Roller skating jam “Private Number” comes in at #7. It was the third single from their debut album. After “Crush on You” went top 5 on the Hot 100, this underperformed. It peaked at #47, though it did better on the R&B chart peaking at #28. The phone number used in the music video was set up so that if fans called, they heard messages from the group. Average ranking - 8 Highest ranking - 1 Lead vocal - Elizabeth George - 11 born - 1 Doc Indie Party Rock - 7 Mirago - 7 jenglisbe - 13 Soulsista - 14 Ky - 3

I like the production on “PN” but the chorus falls flat for me. In hindsight it should have been 1-2 spots higher for me, but that wouldn’t have changed its overall ranking.

6“Rocket 2 U” is next up, and it’s one of their few hits to feature someone other than Elizabeth singing lead. The single peaked at #5 on the R&B chart and #6 on the Hot 100. Interestingly the song was offered to Earth, Wind, & Fire as well, but the writer ultimately chose The Jets. “Rocket 2 U” garnered The Jets their only Grammy nomination; they lost R&B Duo/Group to Gladys Knight & The Pips for “Love Overboard.” Average ranking - 7.00 Highest ranking - 2 Lead vocal - Haini George - 9 born - 14 Doc Indie Party Rock - 9 Mirago - 4 jenglisbe - 6 Soulsista - 2 Ky - 5

5“Cross My Broken Heart” is our #5 song. It was released as the lead single for The Jets’ 1987 album Magic and was included on the Beverly Hills Cop II soundtrack. It peaked at #7 on the Hot 100 and #11 on the R&B chart. The video was actually filmed at Paisley Park. Average ranking - 6.14 Highest ranking - 3 Lead vocal - Elizabeth George - 13 born - 8 Doc Indie Party Rock - 5 Mirago - 3 jenglisbe - 4 Soulsista - 4 Ky - 6

These four were all great. I charted all them too.
8. “Sendin’ All My Love. What awesome R&B jam. #88 on the Hot 100 ok, but only #77 on the R&B chart is unacceptable.
7. “Private Number” This one was melodic fire. I actually did really enjoy that chorus, and the breakdown even more. I also thought this one would have done better on Hot 100. Interesting fact about the phone #. At least that gave poor Jenny from Tommy Tutone fame a break.
6. “Rocket 2 U” This one was cool, but it doesn't change to much too much in melody from Verses to chorus. I always enjoyed female vocals in this group more.
5."Cross My Broken Heart" This is another song that sounded perfect for its time. Even Madonna wanted to sound like this.

4Our #4 song is The Jets first ever song, “Curiosity.” It has a Prince vibe, mixed with “Oh Sheila.” It missed the Hot 100, but was a top 10 R&B hit peaking at #8. Average ranking - 5.29 Highest ranking - 2 Lead vocal - Elizabeth George - 12 born - 2 Doc Indie Party Rock - 2 Mirago - 5 jenglisbe - 5 Soulsista - 3 Ky - 8

3Coming in at #3 on our list is “Make It Real.” This tender ballad was a single from their album Magic and was the group’s final top 10 hit. It peaked at #4 on the Hot 100 and #24 on the R&B chart. It hit #1 on the AC chart. This song sits really well in Elizabeth’s voice as she looks back on a past relationship. Average ranking - 4.86 Highest ranking - 1 Lead vocal - Elizabeth George - 1 born - 10 Doc Indie Party Rock - 8 Mirago - 6 jenglisbe - 1 Soulsista - 6 Ky - 2

Maybe it’s because only 7 of us participated, but we’ve had very few “perfect rankings.” By my count so far only 6 of the reveals had any perfect rankings, and only two participants have more than 1 perfect ranking ( Doc Indie Party Rock with 3 and Ky with 2).

If only there had been one more submission to make it 8 we would have had one PULSE member for each Jet member
#2. Curiosity My second favorite Jets' song is also the very first one I ever charted. Yes! "Oh Sheila" I always thought the same thing, and the Prince vibe from early Prince like "Controversy" or "Uptown" made this song such a jam.
#3. Make It Real This was one of their two big ballads. Call me crazy, but I always heard Starship's "Sara" in this song. I also loved the fact that this R&B ballad featured a Guitar solo. Kinda like Jesse Johnson would add.

2Coming in at #2 is “You Got it All.” This ballad off their debut album hit #2 on the R&B chart and #3 on the Hot 100. The song was actually written by Rupert Holmes, who is perhaps best known for “the piña colada song.” Britney Spears recorded a cover version that ended up on international versions of her second album. Interestingly this is our #2 song but it didn’t have any top rankings. Average ranking - 3.43 Highest ranking - 2 Lead vocal - Elizabeth George - 2 born - 5 Doc Indie Party Rock - 3 Mirago - 2 jenglisbe - 3 Soulsista - 5 Ky - 4

1That of course means our #1 song is “Crush on You.” This one peaked at #3 Hot 100 and #4 on the R&B singles chart. It also hit #5 in the UK, their biggest hit there. It is quintessential 80s. Aaron Carter covered this song on his debut album. Average ranking - 2.43 Highest ranking - 1 Lead vocal - Elizabeth George - 4 born - 7 Doc Indie Party Rock - 1 Mirago - 1 jenglisbe - 2 Soulsista - 1 Ky - 1

Great winner! "Crush On You" went all the way to #2 on my charts. I especially loved the music video that shows close ups on them playing their instruments. A lot of finger magic in that song. If you like this version check out the extended version. It incorporates "Curiosity" in the intro. Also now that the game is over I can say I had a crush on the one female Jet on Keyboards. The oldest one Kathi?
"You Got It All" I didn't know that Rupert Holmes had written that song. Tho he did have a knack for that Lite rock ballad. Come to think of it I do hear a little of "Him" in the bass line just played a little slower so you can say The Jets and he were "Partners In Crime"

Thanks jenglisbe for hosting! It was nice to discover this group and realize how many hits I actually knew. Also, it was pretty interesting to hear the cover versions by Britney Spears and Aaron Carter.
