A lot of chatter in regards to artists may decide to delay new music in regards to issues with the ability to promote their new material due to the Coronavirus. Have heard The Killers and Kendrick Lamar specifically are in discussion to shelve planned material to be released this Spring.
Any more inside information about this? Would really suck.

I think a lot of this will depend on how long both the virus and the fear last in the US. If it lasts a long time, more and more will probably not release this year. If it is in the distant past by summer than maybe there will just be a lot of releases later on in the year rather than the beginning and middle?
I could see a “We Are The World” type song happening.

Some of the big festivals are either being totally canceled or they are being postponed.
Large gatherings have been banned in France so that will affect concerts and big events of that nature.

So instead of new Kendrick and The Killers albums we'd be getting a pandemic AND another version of We Are The World? How could things possibly get even worse :X

I do hope they cancel Coachella cause that will literally be a breeding pit for the virus.
It's a good thing that big events are getting cancelled for now, reduced potential exposure is the best solution rn

As long as Lil Dicky is not the one willing to make said song, it couldn't be that bad, could it?

Have recording studios shut down? Obviously, widespread coverage of film/tv productions stopping, but haven’t seen anything about music. It’s the same issue/risk.

Film and TV studios are huge with hundreds if not thousands of people working at any point in time. Recording studios are small with only a handful of people max. Not to mention many musicians have even smaller private studios.

honestly, i'm not that worried. For albums that are scheduled and done/nearly done (i.e. maybe just mixing and mastering), I believe they'll come out on time.

The first major release got delayed, which was Alicia Keys upcoming album. I know Madison Beer has also pushed her album back.

I guess we could use it as an excuse. Also The Weeknd’s release was the same day as hers. The Weeknd doesn’t need same amount of promo as she does too.

Since physical sales are so insanely low, there's honestly no reason to delay albums other than as an excuse to escape bad press. The bigger issue will be people buying less because of a lose of disposable income and uncertainty about jobs. If I have to worry about food or buying the new whoever album, it's not a hard choice.

The virus took out it's first casualty. Gaga's highly anticipated album is postponed.

I mostly agree, with one exception - a delay makes sense for anyone who was planning on supporting their first-week sales with tour bundles (ticket sales will be lower too but for some artists they will still be a large component) and now has to completely rehaul their intended tour schedule. It will be several months before anyone can get on the road so I can see some releases being bumped out due to that.

It's interesting how some high profile releases are pushed back, and some aren't. Sam Hunt (an arguably high profile release) went ahead as planned today.

Spain's Top Albums Chart Paused Due to Coronavirus Crisis Impact 4/7/2020 by Judy Cantor-Navas
Chart compiler Promusicae has stopped publishing the chart due to "irrelevant" physical sales. BARCELONA — Spain's Top Albums chart, which reflects the top-selling albums and downloads in the country, has been halted due to the coronavirus crisis.
Promusicae, the music industry association which has compiled the national charts since 1986, has taken the unprecedented decision to cease publishing the charts while the state of alarm, declared on March 13, continues in Spain, a Promusicae spokesman confirmed in an email to Billboard.
The decision to temporarily cease publication of the chart, which reflects physical sales and downloads, but not streaming numbers, comes after the country has been shut down for almost a month. While all record stores and other retail outlets are closed, physical music sales "by mail or messenger could almost serve as testimony to the fact that records are not essential items," a statement from Promusicae said, adding that physical sales are currently "almost irrelevant."
The recording industry organization has estimated that the economic impact on physical sales in Spain will amount to at least 40 million euros (just over $43 million), about half of the total earnings from albums and CDs in 2019.
Spanish group DVicio's album Impulso is No. 1 on the current Top 100 albums chart, the last for the time being, which reflects the week of March 20-26. J Balvin's Colors and The Weekend's After Hours rank second and third.
While the Top 100 Albums chart is on hiatus, Promusicae will continue to publish its Top 100 Streaming Albums chart, which will be the reference for "the behavior of the Spanish music market" in the current climate.
Promusicae is planning to reboot its Top 100 Albums chart upon its return to include physical sales, downloads and streaming. That new chart is expected to debut after the Spanish government declares an end to the confinement period, a Promusicae spokesperson tells Billboard.
