Underrated Bop of 4/28/2020Christina Aguliera - "Your Body"Released: September 16, 2012 Album/EP: Lotus Genre: EDM, Electropop
Chart Success: #6 Lebanon #6 South Korea #13 Belgium #16 Canada #16 Scotland #16 UK #17 Japan #17 Sweden #19 Austria #21 Finland #22 Spain #22 Switzerland #23 Hungary #27 Honduras #27 Italy #27 Slovakia #29 Germany #33 New Zealand #34 US #20 US Mainstream Top 40 #35 Denmark #37 Romania #46 Ireland #47 Czech Republic #54 Brazil #59 Australia #61 Russia #65 Netherlands #84 France
Background: The lead single from Xtina's 7th album Lotus, the song was released as a more straightforward electropop and EDM influenced track following the more experimental nature of previous album Bionic. Produced and co-written by Shellback and Max Martin, the song definitely was trying to revive the damage of Bionic which was not a big commercial or critical success (even though it lowkep SLAPS). Lyrically the song is a pretty straightforward sexual song and Xtina is basically trying to hook up with someone, the explicit version of the song makes it even clear by changing the "love your body" line to "fuck your body".
Rating: 10/10 I am not a big fan of the Lotus record, but damn I would be lying if I didn't say that I love this song. I love the production work and I think Xtina's energy on this fantastic. It's a great pop track and I am still upset it didn't do better on the charts Tags: Normi born Mylo13 💜 beach1 Choco .indulgecountry Crimsonio deepston BB🌕 Sambalada walt91 surfy fearlessarrow @jadenlefranks DistrictTwelve woods If you have ANY suggestions feel free to write them in this thread or in a personal message to me and I will get to them when I can, thank you for following along with me on our journey for great music!

Underrated Bop of 4/29/2020Nicole Scherzinger - "Don't Hold Your Breath"Released: March 10, 2011 Album/EP: Killer Love Genre: Electropop
Chart Success: #1 UK #1 Scotland #2 Belgium #4 Ireland #11 Slovakia #14 Croatia #15 Netherlands #17 Australia #21 New Zealand #36 Czech Republic #39 Hungary #45 France #62 Switzerland #65 Austria #68 Romania #70 Canada #86 US Billboard Hot 100 #32 US Mainstream Top 40
Background: The second single in Europe but first international single off Nicole's first solo effort Killer Love. The song is a electropop empowerment track about ending a relationship and refusing to look back. The song has production credits from Swedish producers Rami, Carl Falk, and Steve Angello of Swedish House Mafia. Which makes this the third song I've used in this to have involvement from a member of Swedish House Mafia, I love them. Anyways, the song was a commercial success internationally primarily in the UK. Though the song stalled out in the US cause if I haven't said it before, the US GP's music taste is ass.
Rating: 10/10 I absolutely love some of Nicole's solo output and this song is probably my favorite. The production is really catchy and the song's melody is great as well, Nicole sounds nice and it's a straightforward pop number. What's not to love? "Don't Hold Your Breath" is like the only Nicole Scherzinger song that I love lol, if any of her songs deserved to be a hit it's definitely this one. Also "Your Body"

Underrated Bop of 5/3/2020Beyoncé - "Countdown"Released: June 24, 2011 Album/EP: 4 Genre: R&B
Chart Success: #35 UK #40 South Korea #45 Ireland #62 Canada #65 Austria #71 US Billboard Hot 100 #87 Japan #92 Netherlands
Background: The fifth single off of Bey's fourth album aptly named 4, Countdown is an upbeat poppy R&B track that lyrically is about her love for her man Jay-Z and her self worth for knowing she that bitch. The song samples Boyz II Men’s “Uhh Ahh"' in which Bey does a literal countdown for the hook where the sample is the number counting from 10 to 1. The song's chorus also has a line that makes possible reference to two other famous songs by fellow black female R&B artists, this being the opening line "Oh, killing me softly and I'm still falling" which I take to be making reference to Roberta Flack's classic "Killing Me Softly With His Song" and Alicia Keys "Falllin'". The song like most of the 4 era didn't see much commercial success which is a real shame.Rating: 10/10 This is up there as one of my favorite tracks from Bey, I love the high energy and playfulness of the track. The hook is a very clever catchy sample that honestly is brilliant. The song just makes you want to get up and dance, I also absolutely love the music video for this song. Easily one of the funnest songs out of Bey's repertoire and I had an internal war these last few days as to whether or not to use this or Bey's "Green Light" for this. Underrated Bop of 5/5/2020Hayley Kiyoko ft Kehlani - "What I Need"Released: March 30, 2018 Album/EP: Expectations Genre: Pop
Background: The fourth single off of Hayley Kiyoko's debut album is a collaboration with Kehlani that lyrically is about wanting your lover to be straight up about there feelings and commitment to a relationship and not wanting to keep the love a secret. Both Kehlani and Hayley sing most of the song together aside from there individual verses. The song also shows romantic chemistry between the two singers, furthered by the video and the fact that Hayley is lesbian and Kehlani is pansexual and queer. Rating: 10/10 I absolutely think Hayley's debut album has a lot of fun pop gems and this is among my favorite on the record. I love Kehlani a lot and I really like that they both collaborated on a song together, they both sound great together and the song is pop gold. Underrated Bop of 5/27/2020Janelle Monáe ft Erykah Badu - "Q.U.E.E.N"Released: April 23, 2013 Album/EP: The Electric Lady Genre: Funk, Soul Pop
Background: The lead single off second album The Electric Lady, the title of the song stands for Queer, Untouchables, Emigrants, Excommunicated, and Negroid. The song takes funk and soul influences and is an upbeat number that lyrically is sung in a question and response style in which Janelle questions criticisms and thoughts that are directed towards the marginalized groups the song is titled after. The song is a cleverly penned empowerment anthem as she questions things such as sexuality, race, religion, and such. Erykah Badu shows up to provide a sung interlude prior to the outro and the song closes out with Janelle switches from singing to rapping. Rating: 10/10 Probably one of the best empowerment anthems I have ever listened to and it is very cleverly written, penned, and structured. Janelle knows how to write a song that manages to be super catchy yet also amazing in the lyrical and thematic department. The production of the track also is wonderful and just furthers how good the song is. If you have not listened to Janelle or more importantly The Electric Lady, do listen to it, it definitely is one of my favorite albums of all time. Underrated Bop of 6/1/2020 (requested by Liucci)Zendaya - "Replay"Released: June 16, 2013 Album/EP: Zendaya Genre: Electro-R&B
Chart Success: #8 Australia #18 New Zealand #40 US Billboard Hot 100 #20 US Mainstream Top 40 #83 Canada #99 Belgium
Background: The lead single off Zendaya's debut self titled album and her first real mainstream release, the song is a electropop R&B track. It's a rather simple track lyrically with more of a focus on it's production and melody. It saw moderate commercial success reaching #40 on the Hot 100 and #20 on Pop radio, it was a pretty big hit in Australia where it peaked at #8. Rating: 8.4/10 A solid debut mainstream song for Zendaya, it's a catchy and simple song that feels similar to something Cassie or Jojo would of done back in the day given that its a more pop driven R&B track. Aside from that, I don't have much to say, if the song comes on I don't mind it but I rarely ever seek this out on my own. Underrated Bop of 6/2/2020 Lady Gaga - "Heavy Metal Lover"Released: May 23, 2011 Album/EP: Born This Way Genre: Electro-Pop, Synth-Pop, techno
Background: Track #13 off Gaga's second album Born This Way, the song is electropop number with a heavy use of synths in the chorus and a very industrial-esque beats which are common on the album, produced by Fernando Garibay who lent his efforts to multiple tracks on the album including the title track, Marry The Night, and Dance In The Dark from The Fame Monster. The song is a very sexual track and is lyrically about wanting to be her lover's girl and do all sorts of sexual and adventurous things. Probably one of Gaga's most sexually charged songs and probably the best one of them. Rating: 10/10 I absolutely love this one to death, the electro-industrial beats BTW used frequently were awesome and the chorus to this song is fittingly orgasmic due to the synths used on her voice. It easily is up there as my favorite album track from Gaga and I wish she would make stuff like this and most of Born This Way again. Fernando Garibay really helped penn and produce some of her best songs and I wish she would work with him again. Underrated Bop of 6/13/2020 Tinashe ft Devonté Hynes - "Bet"Released: October 7, 2014 Album/EP: Aquarius Genre: Alternative-R&B
Background: From Tinashe's debut album Aquarius, Bet is an experimental dark alternative R&B track, lyrically it is about not doubting herself and her rise into the industry. She dropped this as a promo single a little over a week before the album's release and the song is much more in line sonically with her mixtape material with it's experimental sound, as opposed to 2 On and Pretend which were more mainstream. The song also features Devonté Hynes of Blood Orange with a guitar outro and the song has production credits from Bloodpop, though he was going by the name Blood Diamonds at the time. Rating: 10/10 I love Tinashe to death and that is mostly in due part to her experimental side, this song takes a very dark experimental approach and it suits her so well. The beat is sick and her singing is slick and just fits perfectly. These type of songs are one of her strong suits if not her strongest suit, she rides it so well and just kills it.

Underrated Bop of 6/15/2020 The Veronicas - "Hook Me Up"Released: August 18, 2007 Album/EP: Hook Me Up Genre: Electropop, Dance-Pop
Background: The lead single and title track off Australian duo/sisters The Veronicas's second album, the song introduced a more electropop sound as opposed to their debut album which was much more in the vein of pop rock music. The song was a huge hit in Australia reaching #1 in the charts there, but saw no success anywhere else. This was the first single in Australia, internationally the first single would be Untouched, which was their breakout hit internationally. Lyrically the song is about the pains and stress of life and the desire to escape it altogether. Rating: 10/10 Something about this song I love but I can't really pinpoint it. I enjoy the lyrics on the song and they are relatable, the production is really catchy, and both sisters deliver a catchy melody. I love a lot of their songs in general so that probably might be why. I do wish they got more success outside of Untouched internationally. Underrated Bop of 6/16/2020 Lucas Nord ft Tove Lo - "Run On Love"Released: June 5, 2013 Album/EP: Islands Genre: Progressive House, Dance
Background: From Swedish DJ Lucas Nord's debut album, Run On Love was a collaboration featuring vocals from fellow Swedish singer Tove Lo, this being released a year before Habits became a huge sleeper hit. The song reached #1 on the US Dance Club charts and wasn't really much of a commercial hit. The song was included in a remixed form on Tove's debut album Queen Of The Clouds, aptly titled the QOTC Edit. Though I am not focusing on that version of the song in this post. Rating: 10/10 I listened to this in very heavy rotation alongside the entirety of Tove's debut album Queen Of The Clouds, I also heavily was into the progressive house sound that was pretty prominent around the mid 2010s. I always remember really liking this and although it is far from my favorite from Tove, it is really nostalgic cause it was up there as one of my most played from her back then. I also never liked the QOTC Edit version to be honest, the production on the original suits it way better. Underrated Bop of 6/24/2020 Kim Petras - "Hillside Boys"Released: September 22, 2017 Album/EP: ERA 1/Neon Genre: Pop
Background: One of Kim's earliest releases being released as part of what is referred to Neon or Era 1, which isn't really an album but rather an unofficial name for the set of single releases she put out all having similar color art that only differs in what neon color outlined the image of her face. The song is an upbeat pop number that lyrically about a relationship that in her lover's eyes is just a summer fling and nothing more. Rating: 10/10 This is one of the first songs I heard from Kim and it is my favorite of her earliest releases. It's such a bright summer pop number that is juxtaposed by lyrics that show that she is upset. It still is up there as one of my favorites from Kim. Underrated Bop of 6/29/2020 Era Istrefi - "BonBon"Released: September 22, 2017 Album/EP: N/A Genre: Dance-Pop, EDM
Background: Released in late 2015, BonBon is the Albanian singer's major breakthrough single being a pretty solid international hit for her and being her first to chart outside of her native Albania. Sung primarily in Albanian with a couple of lines in English, the song became a solid international success, though the song never got pushed in the US unfortunately. A full English version of the song was released in 2016 but this conversation only is focusing on the superior original version of the song. Rating: 8.8/10 I really think this a weirdly infectiously catchy song, I really like the production and Era's delivery of the melody fits well. I have only ever heard one other song from her and that one was nowhere as good plus she hasn't really had any songs with any major international success aside from that one 2018 FIFA World Cup song she was on which didn't do anywhere as well as this. But this song on its own merits is an enjoyable bop. Underrated Bop of 7/2/2020Gwen Stefani - "What You Waiting For?"Released: September 28, 2004 Album/EP: Love. Angel. Music. Baby Genre: Electropop, New Wave
Chart Success: #1 Australia #2 Czech Republic #2 Ireland #2 Italy #2 Romania #2 Scotland #3 New Zealand #3 Norway #3 Denmark #4 Belgium #4 Russia #4 Finland #5 France #6 Sweden #6 European Hot 100 #7 Austria #8 Hungary #15 Netherlands #17 Greece #17 Switzerland #20 Spain #22 Germany #47 US
Background: Released in late 2004 as Gwen's debut single to launch her solo career, What You Waiting For? was written by Gwen and Linda Perry in response to a writers block she entered while writing solo material and creating material without her bandmates of No Doubt. The song itself is lyrically inspired by that writers block and fear of pursuing a solo career, which is only furthered in the music video being a very reference to her writers block. The song was a massive international success except in the US, where it somehow stalled at #47 on the Hot 100 and #17 on Pop radio. Rating: 10/10 LAMB is up there as one of my favorite pop albums of the 2000s and this song is definitely my favorite of Gwen's career even including No Doubt's output. It's a pretty motivational track that comes from a unique place thats puts the listener into Gwen's perspective and thoughts when she began pursuing a solo music career outside of No Doubt. I think the song channels a lot of Gwen's personality and energy into the song while lyrically being depth as well. Underrated Bop of 7/5/2020Kelela - "Blue Light"Released: October 4th, 2017 Album/EP: Take Me Apart Genre: Electro-R&B
Background: From the critically acclaimed debut album Take Me Part, Blue Light is a Electro-R&B track with influences of grime and garage sounds that lyrically is about letting go of your hesitations and fears and diving into a new love without any restrictions. Hence she is letting her guard down and the song details that she is on her way to her lover and that her "chains" are coming down. Rating: 10/10 Take Me Apart is a fantastic album, definitely one of the best of 2017 so listen to it if you already haven't. Blue Light is such a gorgeous song that takes several genres and fuses them into one really well done futuristic sound that is paired perfectly with an ethereal vocal performance from Kelela herself. An amazing song from an even better debut album, probably my favorite on the album tbh. Underrated Bop of 7/29/2020Solange - "Losing You"Released: November 27, 2012 Album/EP: True Genre: R&B, Dance-Pop, Indie Pop
Background: From Solange's well received EP True, Losing You is the lead single of the project which was fully created between Solange and Dev Hynes or as he was known as the time Blood Orange. This song fuses R&B stylings of neo soul with dance-pop and lyrically is about the end of a relationship and heartbreak. The song was critically acclaimed upon release but wasn't much of a commercial success. Rating: 10/10 Honestly, the whole True EP is amazing but this song is the pinnacle of perfection, it evokes 80s dance R&B pop styles combined with the common theme of heartbreak but it also constructs itself a unique identity that feels genuine and distinguishable from what it evokes. Truly one of Solange's best songs, a total bop and a half. Underrated Bop of 8/1/2020Jennifer Hudson ft. T.I. - "I Can't Describe (The Way I Feel)"Released: September 24, 2013 Album/EP: JHUD Genre: R&B, Dance-Pop
Background: The lead single off Hudosn's 3rd album JHUD is a dance pop R&B track is a Pharrell produced track that features rapper T.I., the song lyrically is about the positive enrgy and vibes of being truly madly deeply in love. The song also samples Evelyn King's classic "I'm In Love". The song wasn't a major success, reaching #3 on the Bubbling Under Hot 100. Rating: 10/10 My favorite song from Jennifer Hudson, it feels very nostalgic of something Chaka Khan wiuld do given that it gives off a very 80s dance vibe that feels nostalgic yet modern. Pharrell's production is ace here and I actually enjoy T.I.'s addition on this bop. Underrated Bop of 8/4/2020Nicki Minaj ft. Jessie Ware - "The Crying Game"Released: December 15, 2015 Album/EP: The Pinkprint Genre: Rap
Background: Track #3 off Nicki's third album The Pinkprint is one of the more emotionally driven songs on the record, featuring British singer Jessie Ware singing the chorus. Lyrically the song is about the events that led to the breakup between Nicki Minaj and Safaree Samuels in which both parties have a fault in. Its one of the many tracks on the record that reveal a much more vulnerable side to Nicki. Rating: 10/10 Tied for my favorite song of Nicki's entire career with All Things Go, I really love how descriptive and personal Nicki's verses are and Jessie delivers a strong hook that pairs extremely well with the song. I honestly think Nicki's best music are the personal tracks off of The Pinkprint, she really shows her talents with the pen when she is emotional.
