Thought this might be a fun thread. Post something that didn’t happen that you wish would have happened. I will start.
I wish Easton Corbin would have been a superstar and Lauren Alaina got played on country radio.

He is awesome. I wish Sunny Sweeney had become a huge star as well! “From a Table Away” is really a great song. I wish Brad had released “One Of Those Lives”. I think it would’ve been one of the bigger songs of his career. I wish Jason Aldean released “Black Tears” just because it’s one of my favorites by him. Also, for Zac Brown to not do this.... m.youtube.com/watch?v=DLKaH-UOaAcLastly I guess for David Nail and Love & Theft to become bigger.

1. I wish The Dixie Chicks had never got blacklisted by country radio.
2. I wish women got equal airplay as men on country radio.
3.. I wish Alan Jackson and George Strait were still A-listers.
4. I wish today's country airplay charts moved as fast as they did in the 80s and 90s.

Some great suggestions so far (especially the Dixie Chicks not getting blacklisted....I can't imagine how much great music we missed out on because of that). Also, that Farmer's Daughter never made it big. They are a fantastic band and it's a shame that they only released three albums (plus a greatest hits). Their first two albums especially are fantastic.

One of my big Country music regrets is that Jo Dee Messina was signed to Curb.... The way her career seemed to be going, she should be a Faith/Martina-level superstar! But of course Curb managed to fuck it up right at her peak.......

One of my big Country music regrets is that Jo Dee Messina was signed to Curb.... The way her career seemed to be going, she should be a Faith/Martina-level superstar! But of course Curb managed to f**k it up right at her peak....... This 1000%. Jo Dee's albums were so great and she had a lot of potential that was never fulfilled. The Unmistakable era should have been huge but Curb botched it so bad. Just look at the single choices around then, especially "Biker Chick" and "That's God". Those two would never make it big and yet were what was released. Songs like "Just Drive", "Think About Us", and "How Do You Get High" are amazing and would have been awesome to hear on the radio! Also can we talk about Martina McBride and the bad single choices throughout her career. Martina's albums are really strong and the singles for each album never did a good job at selling the album. The only exception to this of course is Evolution, though that album did miss out on "Be That Way", which would have been huge! "Heart Trouble" and "Where I Used To Have A Heart" should not have been singles at all, whereas "Strangers" definitely should have. "From The Ashes" and "Make Me Believe" would have done better than "It's My Time" and "There You Are" did. "Everybody Does", and "Walk Away" are two other big missed singles! Also need to mention Rebecca Lynn Howard. How "Forgive" is her only chart hit is insane. Her first two albums were so good, and her voice is incredible. Also wish we got more music from the Wilkinsons. I really enjoyed their first two albums a lot and while I have their unreleased 3rd album I wish things had worked out better for them in the US especially. Lastly, for now I want to mention that Jamie O'Neal should have also had more success. I really hope to see new music come from her sooner than later.

Julie Roberts deserved a better shake than what she got. “Break Down Here” is too damn good to have been all but stricken from the canon of 2000s country songs.

Thought this might be a fun thread. Post something that didn’t happen that you wish would have happened. I will start. I wish Easton Corbin would have been a superstar and Lauren Alaina got played on country radio. Agree wholeheartedly to the Easton Corbin wish, particularly agree! #4 implies that the charts actually move now. I don't know if that is the case My adds: I wish Tim McGraw had made a couple better single choices lately. And of course the missed single choice of his career "You Had to Be There" should have been released! I wish Texas radio hit more quickly as the earlier efforts from individuals like Aaron Watson, Josh Abbot Band and Cody Johnson were so damn catchy compared to their later efforts (while also strong, but just not as awesome IMO) I wish Keith Anderson were still recording. I wish the Dirt Drifters had made it past one album. I hope the Turnpike Troubadors come back stronger than ever I wish that Jason Aldean's music wasn't so often such an abysmal sellout. I wish the A-Listers would occasionally take 2 months between albums to give the little guy a break. The way they milk that 4th or 5th single and immediately launch into the new single is a bit infuriating. Absence does make the heart grow fonder I wish country music had bigger balls in turning its back on purely Godawful music, though they have shown an occasional willingness.. In what just world does "We Back" make the Top 10? Frankly, I wish I cared more. The last couple years have deadened a bit of my enthusiasm for listening to country music on the radio. I'm listening to my Spotify lists way more often. I know there is good music out there, you shouldn't have to sift through so much crap to find it. EDIT - one more: Top 2 Faith Hill regrets (said in jest, but surely don't touch her man's package)

here's some of mine:
1. I wish the Top 20 on Country Airplay never made history for having NO WOMEN on it. #EqualPlay #PlayOurF***inRecords
2. I wish country pop was more like Shania did it instead of completely erasing the line between country and pop. There's a fine line and Shania walked along it perfectly imo. I mean, she had two versions of Come On Over and Up! for heaven's sake.
3. Florida Georgia Line (ok not absolutely everything about them but I fully blame them for bro-country. If it was already a thing, they're the ones that made it a trend)
4. The entire Cry Pretty era from a radio standpoint (and in fact, all of Sony's missed opportunities. There was much better than "Undo It" for instance. "Mexico" would've been a summer smash. DO YOU THINK ABOUT ME SAYS HI)
5. Reba should NOT have released "If I Were A Boy" because that did effectively kill her era and in some ways her radio career (as if she even needs them now--although I hope she manages to get a #1 in FIVE decades thanks to Thomas!) GOD there was so much better on that album for a second single.
6. The night of November 13, 2019. #NeverForget #11/13
7. Kellie Coffey's debut album was absolutely INCREDIBLE and I think she should've been among the legends by now! She sounds (at least to me) uncannily like CĂ©line Dion and "When You Lie Next To Me" is one of my absolute favorite songs; it's just beautiful!

You're not going to agree, but it's my taste I wish David Fanning hadn't come to the music scene so early, as I think that now that the country music scene is pop, he would have been given less crap. I happen to think he is great! ♥

I always wondered what would have happened with Deana Carter had they released "Angels Working Overtime" and "People Miss Planes", in whatever order, as the first two singles from her second album instead of the actual first two singles. AOTH is a great song, but really slow for radio, especially as a lead single.

I wish Cassadee Pope would've released either 'This Car' or 'Easier to Lie' after 'Wasting All These Tears' hit the top ten. I definitely feel that if her label would have gone with either of those two choices then the momentum would not have paused, and MAYBE just MAYBE, she would have had a career trajectory similar to Carly Pearce?
I wish Danielle Bradbury never released 'Friend Zone' because that killed her country music career, which is unfortunate because she is full of talent and her debut album had songs that were destined to be huge hits - 'Never Like This', 'I Will Never Forget You', 'Dance Hall' ....
Carrie Underwood..... well I think it's a crime the following tracks were never released as singles: 'Starts With Goodbye', 'Get Out of This Town', 'Someday When I Stop Loving You', 'What Can I Say', 'Songs Like This', 'Good in Goodbye', 'Wine After Whiskey', 'Chaser', 'Choctaw County Affair', 'Backsliding' ..... like the girl has a catalogue of missed opportunities. During the 'Storyteller' era I genuinely do not know what possessed her team not to release 'Chaser' at all.

My biggest regret is that MCA Nashville and radio programmers in the world think Sam Hunt should be played on country radio and be viewed as a country artist. Also, why did they allow him to be immune from a derailment after "Downtown's Dead" completely tanked? That right there should have sent him to one album wonder status. I had my hopes up that that was the beginning of the end for him. And it rightfully should have been.
Jake Owen, who has had a really nice career, should be a way bigger star than he currently is. But, i will say releasing "Real Life" was a huge mistake.

"I Wish For You," "When Gentry Plays Guitar," "James Dean in Tennessee," "I Bring It To You," are just so awesome songs. If you're reading this and haven't checked her out, I highly recommend doing so.

A convenient distinction for this poster, considering that a good portion of this thread discusses artists who, in fact, released one low-performing single and had their radio careers derailed as a result. The difference, however, is that Hunt had a string of extremely successful singles prior to "Downtown's Dead." Should PDs be expected to exile A-listers whenever a new single doesn't connect well with listeners? If that were the precedent that should have already been in place, quite a few superstars would have quickly lost that status. Tim McGraw's late-2000s Curb single choices come to mind.

I love her and still listen as well. “Good Friend To Me”, “The Riverside”, “To Love You Once” and so many more in addition to all you mentioned.

That one of Clay Davidson's 2 songs after "Unconditional" had had more success. If that had happened I think he would have survived the Virgin/Capitol Nashville merger and been a country music radio staple for at least a decade.
