If You See Him gets a break, as now the heat shifts back to the Read My Mind era for the first time since we hit the top 20. The title track is a beautiful song, that has long been a fan favorite. Reba always slays this type of ballad, so it should be no surprise to see it do so well here! It started out battling in the top 5, settled at #2 for one of the longest stretches of any song, and even crept up to #2 before its six lowest ranks came with the last six lists Still, nobody even ranked it bottom 10, so this is one of the more consistently-loved songs in this rankdown!

Coming up at #7....we have the most consistent #1 performer of the rankdown It was #1 for like the entire first half of the submission process, with no competition whatsoever, before picking up some rather extreme hate at the end...

There it is! Our biggest #1 contender of the rankdown was in fact "If I Had Only Known". With a whopping THREE #1 ranks, it was off to an incredible start with a huge lead. Unfortunately the dark, unfeeling hearts of George Strait Junkie, Cody Wants Out..., .indulgecountry, and austin came back-to-back at the end with a wall of bottom-5 ranks just like the top 5 ranks had come back-to-back at the beginning, and toppled it from #1 nearly all the way out of the top 10!!! It was able to rally again at the end, and at least make up a little bit of the ground it had lost. And yes, it was unquestionably our most polarizing song, lol. It would have definitely been interesting to see how well this one had done if we had more participants! My thoughts: This song is just sooooooo sad. It makes sense that it would be so polarizing. It's one of those songs that speaks to and taps directly into certain emotions, and might mean different things to every person at different times in their lives. It's such a powerfully written and performed song. My only complaint with it is that the production has aged the worst out of anything else Reba released in the '90s, with that cheesy electric piano. I'd love to hear a refreshed version of this!

Oh good riddance. Glad to see I am not the only one who does not get the hype for this one at all. Thanks for the help on tanking it, austin, George Strait Junkie, and Cody Wants Out.... Now I literally don't care what wins since we've eliminated all my lower half rankings that made the top 10. <3

Lol I see bboat11 did their best to tank this as revenge for "If I Had Only Known" but thank God it outlasted, if only by 1 position. "Bobby" is absolutely ENTHRALLING. What an incredible story. It's a quintessential example of what country music does best. The way the story unfolds, the way Reba's vocal delivery gives life to the characters and breathes so much sadness and despair into such a tragic tale, and it is just expertly crafted from a melodic and production standpoint. It is absolutely a perfect song imo. If it had been a single, it probably would be in my top 10 from her hits catalog. Just SO good. I can't glob enough praise onto "Bobby."

"Bobby" bows out next, giving a back-to-back elimination that also removes the For My Broken Heart album from this rankdown.
This song tells a fantastic story of a boy whose dad goes to prison for killing his mom, and he grows up hating his dad. But then one day he realizes that his mom's life was essentially over anyway after the terrible accident she had endured, and the father had essentially removed her from life support because he loves her so much, and it was what she wanted him to do. And then he got in trouble for that, because our justice system is sometimes a bit too black-and-white for real life issues. It is a beautifully-written song.
Unfortunately, to me the melody has always felt off. The whole thing is just ridiculously singsongy for the subject matter. I do enjoy it, but not nearly to the same level of anything else in this top 10.
This song had a steady rise for the entire submission process, and even found its way into the top 2 near the end! As a couple people mentioned, I was also shocked to see it do this well!

We kick off the top 5 with the official elimination of the Read My Mind album.
"I Wish That I Could Tell You" is another fan favorite that has always been raved about as a missed single opportunity. It is also one of my favorite songs of Reba's career, period. The lyrics are just so brilliant! The narrator notices that her man is miserable trying to figure out a way to leave her, but doesn't want to break her heart, and he doesn't know how to do it, and she wishes she could tell him how.
This premise leads to several of the most brilliant lyrical moments of her career.
"The words that I would say sound as empty as the way you feel inside, while the silence in between tells me everything that you deny."
"How do you choose? Do you hurt 'em with the truth or with a lie?"
"I don't know how to help you. I wish that I could tell you....how to tell me goodbye." (At first you don't know that the narrator is the one he is trying to leave, so the fist time this line drops, it was like insta-goosebumps for me... Lol)
Anyway, three people lose their #1 here, tying this song with "If I Had Only Known" for the song with the most #1 ranks in the series. I can't wait to see how well this one does in the final rankdown of her all-time best album tracks!

"Please Come To Boston" is yet another fan favorite, that has frankly come to be quite a bit more iconic and well-loved through the years than most of the actual hits from the Starting Over album. That is especially true on Pulse, where we put it all the way at #2 in the album rankdown, behind only the album's biggest hit, "Ring On Her Finger, Time On Her Hands".
This song is just such a classic. It tells the story of a couple trying to make it last long-distance because the man just can't settle down and has to keep trying new things in new places, and he wants her to join him in Boston, and Denver and L.A., but all she wants is for him to come back to Tennessee and stay with her. There isn't much of a resolution to their conflict; it's literally just a song about their circumstances, and that vagueness is just enough to make the song have a wide appeal.
For instance, this song has a different meaning to one of my uncles. He was the restless wanderer of the family, who has always moved around a lot. He has literally lived in Boston, and Denver, and L.A., among lots of other places, and this song always makes him think of his mom. (So does Blake Shelton's "The Baby". He's the youngest child, and the song fits him to a T. Right down to the fact that he literally missed her death, just like the narrator of TB did, because he hopped a plane out of Denver as soon as he got a call saying it was dire, only to be told upon arrival that he was already gone :'( ).
Anyway, with this reveal, the Starting Over album is finally eliminated!!!! This last song hung on quite a bit after "Talking In Your Sleep" was out at #19!

"Climb That Mountain High" is such a breath of fresh air on just about any Reba playlist! 😂 Lol. It's just got an infectious energy to it that cannot be denied. It's catchy, and motivational, and her vocals are filled with fiery personality, especially in the bridge when she sustains the high note heading into that epic instrumental solo!
I was a little shocked to see this do better than the two songs that left before it, but I'm not at all upset to see it in the top 3!

"She's Callin' It Love" has also always been one of my favorite Reba album tracks! This song would have been a HUGE hit had it been released, I have zero doubt. As with the previous reveal, this one has a really infectious energy to it. Good luck listening to this and not getting it stuck in your head! "I'll Give You Something To Miss" is also a catchy uptempo, although I've gotta be honest, I did NOT see this victory coming! Between "She's Callin' It Love", "I Wish That I Could Tell You", "Please Come To Boston", "One Last Good Hand", etc. she has SO many epic '90s album tracks that are frequently discussed as career-defining smashes, and tbh I have never heard this one (or anything from the If You See Him album at all now that I think about it) be part of that conversation. Obviously maybe I just haven't been paying attention, because this song's victory here (and the album's overall domination in this rankdown) prove that there is a lot more career-defining power on If You See Him than I have been giving it credit for. I'd even venture to say that Pulse sees it as one of the most influential albums of her career! (Remember it's my favorite album, so I have always loved it. It just seems like the bulk of the credit goes to her early '90s work when people point out her "best" work.) Anyway, that's that! Now we know! The most iconic decade of Reba's career gave us such a run of incredible music, and I am so glad to be part of a community where we can dive into the more obscure parts of an artist's catalog like this, that you don't necessarily hear on the radio all the time ( Even when I'm the only one who actually talks) Thank you for participating and following along!

Double post apologies. "If I Had Only Known" deserved the Top 5 without a doubt. That song is one of the very first I put on after my aunt passed in 2017 and it has had an indelible mark on my heart ever since. It's one of those songs that I can't listen to because of that, but that also is why I gave it my #1--if it moves me beyond any other, it wins of my top spot. It's how I did "Why," and it's how I did "Soon You'll Get Better" when they appeared in Faith's Extras and Taylor's Lover RDs respectively. Beautiful, beautiful song. If anything in the Top 5 was gonna win, I was hoping it would be "I'll Give You Something To Miss"!! If not for IIHOK this song would've had my #1. It's such an infectious jam and would've made for a smash hit across the board. Glad to see it come out on top as her greatest album track of the 90s! Thanks for hosting bboat11 and now that these album tracks are done, I'm excited to dive into the 80s!

So happy my #2 became -#3
Only thing is “Climb That Mountain” is my favorite. I just thought the vocals on “Read My Mind” would outrank CTM. At the time, it was said RMM was a should have been a single that never was. I was shocked it didn’t make Top 5.
I should have reversed my #1 and #2. Perhaps CTM would’ve been #2.

Not even a little surprised. I saw this song winning from a mile away, lol. And it deserved too! This is 100% her best uptempo album cut from the selections we had and would've been my #1 if it hadn't been for "Bobby." They're neck-and-neck though, both A++ quality songs. "She's Callin' It Love" is a jam and a half too. This whole list was STACKED, and the top 6 all wound up being incredible songs that could've and should've been career hits honestly.

As most of y’all already mentioned, this entire top 10 was stacked so it was really anyone’s guess as to how this would play out. Now for some final thoughts: “Face to Face” always screamed hit to me and I thought for sure it was going to get released as a single back then, but alas they didn’t go with it. I’m not sure if Linda Davis was still touring with Reba back then, but I can only imagine how epic it would’ve been to see them perform this live. It’s interesting that they almost went with “Lonely Alone” as a single only to pull it in lieu of “Wrong Night”. Looking back on this album era, I think they maybe should’ve gone in a different direction after “Forever Love” and released “I’ll Give You Something to Miss” followed by “Face to Face”. I’d probably look back on this album era a bit more fondly as they seemed to play it rather safe with the last two singles. Anyways, I will say that after getting the chance to revisit the album I’ve definitely grown to like it a lot more and can see why some of you consider it to be one of her more consistent albums from the 90s. I just’ve easily could’ve put “Read My Mind” as my top ranking song because it’s long been one that I revisit frequently. The same can be said for “If I Had Only Known” and in fact I initially had this as my #1 song. For anyone that may not remember, this song was also included on the soundtrack for the movie 8 Seconds which was about the life and death of Lane Frost. If you’ve never seen it you should definitely check it out. The reception that “Bobby” has gotten on Pulse has kind of surprised me because I’ve never looked at it as a go-to album track myself. Lyrically it’s a great song, but because of the specific storyline to it I usually tend to skip over this song on the album. I thought that “I Wish I Could Tell You” would actually be a top 3 contender and possibly even a strong top 2 contender. This is the one I bumped up to my #1 spot over “If I Had Only Known” as it’s always been a go-to track. It’s long been a fan favorite and I think I would’ve preferred for this to be a single over “Till You Love Me”. I’m glad to see “Please Come to Boston” land in the top 4 because this is another album track I still revisit to this day. I think this was another missed opportunity as it would’ve made for a great single. I almost put “She’s Callin’ It Love” in my top 5, but everything was so stacked by this point it was hard to find room for it. That said, everything within’ my top 6 is rather fluid and would likely change depending on my mood that day lol. Anyways, this has such an easy-breezy feel to it and it's one that I often like to put on in the spring or summer. Thanks again for yet another great rankdown bboat11 !

Fantastic top 10, and anything really could have been a rightful winner. I do love "I'll Give You Something To Miss" (and think it would have made a great single), but it wasn't even in my top 10. If that had been the second or third single, I think it would have been absolutely huge. I completely understand why "Forever Love" was the second single, with the movie and everything, but IGYSTM as the third single would have been great. Followed up with "Lonely Alone" (the intended third single), and we would have had a near-perfect album era. "She's Callin' It Love" is another classic. Had they not gone with "What If It's You" fourth (and, it was almost third), I think SCIL or "Never Had A Reason To" would have made great singles. NHART was always the one I thought of as the missed single from the album, but I would have been happy with either. And the Read My Mind tracks...as I've said before, that's my favourite album of all-time, and I really do really like every single song on it. That being said, "I Wish That I Could Tell You" is pretty much a perfect song, and I wish that there had been room to make it a single. Maybe instead of "Till You Love Me"? That's the only place where I can really see it fitting in, unless they went with six singles, which was really against the norm. "Read My Mind" was also a hit that got away. "Please Come To Boston" was, imo, the absolute standout from Starting Over (overall, a disappointing album for Reba). It's really too bad that with four singles (the three country ones plus "You Keep Me Hanging On") that there wasn't room to release that one. I understand why they went with the ones that they did, but I think that PCTB could have easily replaced any of them. It was great revisiting Reba's 90s album tracks. It's her best decade by far, imo, and truly, this could have been a singles rankdown instead of an album track one. Thanks for hosting, bboat11. Looking forward to what the 80s bring!
