I present you...this scrapped concept for a rankdown featuring some great suggestions... pulsemusic.proboards.com/thread/179064/biggest-single-opportunities-rankdownAnd here's what I contributed to the thread: Taylor Swift - Paper Rings Panic! At The Disco - Trade Mistakes / Casual Affair / Far Too Young To Die / House Of Memories / The Overpass Ariana Grande - You'll Never Know / everytime / R.E.M / bad idea / NASA / bloodline / needy Christina Aguilera - Infatuation / Slow Down Baby / Understand Mariah Carey - Alone In Love / You're So Cold / Now That I Know / I'm That Chick / Caution And let me just add "All I Ask" by Adele and "Marry You" and "Moonshine" by Bruno Mars as well.

"everytime" by Ariana Grande truly deserved life as a single...radio stations wouldn't be ready for such a hit.

In recent times, it's not likely than an album track from a veteran act would have been a massive success if released as a single. Which would rule out something like "Caution," for instance. "I'm That Chick," which was one of my favorites from that album, may not have done so hot, either, though, given how the post-lead-single releases fared.

"I'm That Chick," which was one of my favorites from that album, may not have done so hot, either, though, given how the post-lead-single releases fared. I agree but I would have liked to have seen "Caution" come out and get the promo that "With You" received. I loved "With You" eventually but always wished "Caution" could have been a single. I know WY did ok on radio but I'm a assuming her label did promo for it. Maybe "Caution" could have done something? "I'm That Chick" was never a favorite of mine from MiMi. I like it and liked the version from the VH1 Fashion Award show she did a lot. There were many songs by my favorites that I thought should have been singles but looking back I see why they were not. However I always loved "O.O.C" so it shows how great I am at picking singles... Back On Topic I always thought "Toy Soldier" by Britney could have smashed.

jessutation "everytime" would have totally smashed, indeed. The biggest mistake of Ariana's career was cutting the "sweetener" and "thank u, next" eras short. I understand "breathin" needed to be the final single and that after Mac Miller's death the best course of action would be to work on more music as a way of healing, but why wasn't "everytime" a promo single over "the light is coming"? It could have had an incredible music video and even got some radio push given how catchy it is. HolidayGuy What killed Mariah's momentum during the E=MC^2 was poor promotion due to her marriage and especially the choice of releasing a ballad for a summer single. I think "I'm That Chick" could have totally been a hit if it was the lead single (since the hype for new Mariah content would be enough to give any song a sizeable boost) and even if it was the follow-up to "Touch My Body", as it was coming off a #1 hit and had the perfect vibe for the season.

For Demi Lovato's 2013 "DEMI" (a pretty great album, by the way), I've always felt "Without The Love", "Two Pieces", and "In Case" would have made great singles.
It's a shame they went for the mid-tier "Really Don't Care" and "Made In The USA" instead, which showed no signs of artistic development for the general public. Man, that era was so poorly handled. π

Rihanna - "Push Up on Me" and "Breakin' Dishes" I remember every time she released a new single from that album, I kept thinking "Breakin' Dishes" would be next. That was the song that made me buy the album. By the time she released "Rehab," I couldn't believe it she had released over half of the album and none of them were "Breakin' Dishes."

"I Did Something Bad" by Taylor Swift had so much potential as a single, either as the final single after "Delicate" (I'm sure that incredible AMA performance + music video would generate enough buzz) or, ideally, as the lead single for the album instead of "Look What You Made Me Do".

Literally anything off Lover; Me! and You Need to Calm Down were so underwhelming compared to Cruel Summer, Paper Rings, Death by a Thousand Cuts and others.

Legendary Lovers off Katy Perry's Prism came to mind instantly. Also Breakin' dishes from Rihanna's GGGB. I also think if Ariana pushed Needy as single it would of done quite well.

It's such a shame that the era was so poorly handled. "ME!" and "You Need To Calm Down" were literally the worst single choices, especially when whatever she released would have done well out of hype alone. π

I think I Think He Knows or Paper Rings should have been lead singles, then Calm Down, then Cruel Summer.
