I feel vindicated that Montaigne was a f**k-up on Australia's part last year. Our first non-qualifier. I have to wonder if Vanessa or Casey had won our national selection last year (and gotten the internal selection for this year as a consequence of last year's cancellation) either of them would've had a better song that would have maintained our finals streak.

Very sorry for Romania and Croatia. Based on the predictions, I was a bit prepared for Romania's exit, but Croatia came as a total shock. It also gathered a lot of Youtube views on their performance tonight. So it might have been juries🤔 Happy for Lithuania, Norway, Ukraine and Belgium.

There were definitely some choices made with that top 10, but Croatia is really the only one that sticks out to me as a non-qualifier that REALLY shouldn't have been. So like... yeah, that was not a very good semi.

I don't think "Technicolour" was that bad, the live on tape performance didn't stand out. Since it started to play I knew they would not make it. If she was able to perform there, I'm sure she would've done better. Romania was expected, I blame the delegation because Roxen did make a lot of flawless acoustics. I don't know why they choose to recreate the music video, she was out of breath. While I'm not the biggest fan of the song, Croatia totally deserved. She nailed it. I'd switch either Azerbaijan or Israhell with Croatia. I think Israhell placed high in the juries thanks to the whistle note. I fear Croatia and/or Romania retirement for next year.

Now that I've had time to watch the first semifinal, here are my thoughts:
Lithuania: Solid performance. I don't think there was any doubt that this will go through. Slovenia: I actually liked the song more with the performance, it was a great vocal performance but the song was a little boring so... Russia: Manizha definitely brought some energy and the people singing along on the screen was a nice touch. Sweden: Pretty lackluster compared to most songs here in terms of the performance itself. I'd like to think that it won't do super well in the finals but it's Sweden so you never know. Australia: I actually really liked the live on tape performance. The lighting fit the vibe of the song, nicely done. North Macedonia: Great vocals but zzzz. Also the disco chest lol Ireland: I thought the staging was creative so it's a shame that the vocals were pretty shaky. Cyprus: One of the best performances of the night imo. Her vocals were really stable throughout despite the choreo and she had the stage presence to keep my eyes glued. Norway: I'm not sure if I like the staging and all, I think it got lost in the shuffle for me. Well if him going through means we can see more Efendi/TIX then I'm here I guess, lol. Croatia: I'm not as big on this one as much as most people here are, the performance did slap though. Belgium: The staging was very plain compared to others but I think it works just because it fits the song and allows for the song to shine. Israel: That whistle tone at the end! She knew how to work the stage. Romania: Hmm the vocals here were a bit off, it's a shame because I like the song itself. Azerbaijan: Um Efendi killed it. Now I can't get "Mata Hari" out of my head which is surprising considering how underwhelmed I was at this song compared to "Cleopatra". Ukraine: Go_A killed it too. Kateryna was really charismatic on stage. The dancers releasing grain (?) from their hands was a wtf moment for me but overall amazing performance. Malta: Destiny did great here too. She served vocals and vocals and vocals. The vocals!
Overall I'm just super happy that Belgium qualified.

EBU Statement regarding Icelandic delegation (Wednesday 19 May)
Following a positive test for COVID-19 amongst the Icelandic delegation on Sunday 16 May, the whole team has been in quarantine and undergone PCR testing (on 16 and 19 May).
Today (Wednesday 19 May) a member of the Icelandic group Daði og Gagnamagnið also tested positive for COVID-19. The rest of the delegation has again tested negative for COVID-19.
In close collaboration with the EBU and the host broadcaster, Daði og Gagnamagnið have taken the difficult decision to withdraw from performing in this year’s live Eurovision Song Contest shows, as they only want to perform together as a group.
Their song will remain in the competition and we will broadcast their rehearsal performance, recorded on the stage on 13 May.
The Icelandic delegation will remain in quarantine and be monitored by the Health Authorities.
We wish them all the best and will provide further updates in due course.

EBU Statement: Duncan Laurence tests positive for COVID-19linkDuncan Laurence, winner of the 2019 Eurovision Song Contest for the Netherlands and was scheduled to perform live during Saturday’s Grand Final, has tested positive for COVID-19, his management and the Host Broadcaster have confirmed. Duncan has mild symptoms. Because of the 7 day minimum isolation period, Duncan will not be able to perform live in the Ahoy venue in Rotterdam, but will still feature in the show in a different form. Last Monday, Duncan tested negative in the Eurovision Test Pavilion, which granted him access to the venue for his performance in the first Semi-Final. On Wednesday, he showed mild symptoms and then unfortunately delivered a positive result in a rapid antigen test. “We are of course disappointed, first of all for Duncan, who deserves a live performance on our very own Eurovision stage after his 2019 victory and the worldwide success of Arcade,” Sietse Bakker, Executive Producer, said. “We couldn’t be more proud of his opening act for the first Semi-Final. Of course we wish Duncan a speedy recovery!” "Duncan is very disappointed, he has been looking forward to this for two years. We are very happy that he will still be seen in the final on Saturday, May 22," his management said. A strict COVID-19 health and safety protocol is being applied at this year’s Eurovision Song Contest. All those working within the perimeter of the venue must be in possession of a negative COVID-19 test, not older than 48 hours. Since 6 April, when the load-in started in Ahoy, over 24,400 tests have been conducted amongst crew, volunteers, artists, delegation members and press. Only 16 of those (0.06%) have returned positive results. In most cases, they were from people who hadn’t previously been to the venue, or who hadn’t been there recently. To date, no infections have been conclusively traced back to the venue.

The news about the Icelandic team and Duncan are so sad. I hope they're doing okay, despite having tested positive. Health above all. Happy Semi Final 2 day! This semi is far weaker in my opinion. I was sad to leave some of my SF1 favorites behind! Also happy birthday to fellow Eurofan sergejdordij! Wherever they are, I hope they're doing well!

Ahhh SF2 is today but I didn't write anything about the first one here yet! To be honest I'm kinda disappointed that we won't see Romania and Croatia in the final Tick-Tock is a hit and Amnesia just personally hits really close to home. I was really surprised when they said Norway qualified, it definitely wasn't my favourite (#29 in my overall ranking). Also I think points from the jury is what saved Sweden and gave their song a push to the final - Tusse did not sound great and that's putting it kindly. I'm really excited for today's semifinal. I think a lot of songs in it are really good but I'm especially rooting for San Marino, Iceland, Bulgaria & Portugal.

Interesting but weaker semifinal. The only surprise is Moldova, but not at all since God works hard but Kirkorov works harder. Austria was decently good in the vocals but I expected to be out. Pprtugal did one of the best stages of the semi so their qualifying is not a surprise.

Yes Portugal had a cool light show! I would have liked to see Georgia advance only because I thought Tornike Kipiani came across great live; even more so than the studio. It was also great to see Gjon's Tears get emotional
The final is airing on OMNI in Canada

I would have swapped in Czechia and left out Portugal, but I'll take 9/10, cause this never happens to me!
Semi 2 was definitely weaker overall, but Albania and Serbia might both be vying for my personal Top 10! "Loco Loco" has been stuck in my head all day.

The competition is so open! There are at least 7-8 winning contenders.
Italy Switzerland France Ukraine Malta Cyprus San Marino Finland
Serbia will be the televote favourite, alongside Norway....
Impossible to say really.
