Released in 1972 from his album of the same name. Hit #21 R&B and #35 on the Hot 100. It's been covered and sampled numerous times since its release.
The phrase "mama-se, mama-sa, ma-makossa" was notably used in Michael Jackson "Wanna Be Startin' Somethin'", and again in Rihanna's "Don't Stop The Music". Manu sued MJ over the use of that line; it was eventually settled out of court. He sued again after Rihanna after MJ's version of the line in her song. This time he lost because of the earlier settlement.
Manu passed away from COVID-19 today at the age of 86.

One of the best 70s soul/funk/R&B songs. Occasionally heard it as an old school cut on WGCI and V103 when I was younger.

I always think of the movie Crooklyn whenever I hear it.
It's a classic.
