Not really true about The Weeknd. He’s well publicized for his relationships with Hadid and Gomez as well as his appearance in UNCUT GEMS. Hell, even his old hair used to generate press.

It wasn’t a knock at Dua... I’m just saying, her public profile still isn’t very high. She’s not a household name yet. We shouldn’t have expected a huge first week number.

Now how Halsey sold so much her first week... some things I’ll never understand.

If you remove bundle sales, lotsof #1 or hot artist would do 50~80k SPS.
that's the reality with current sales/sps climate, but y'all are used to seeing bundled number.

you can't compare pre-streaming era or early streaming era number to 2020.
pure sales are dead, -50% from 2016 to 2019(via nielsen) while SEA don't pull big number as pure sales in a week but spread out through multiple weeks.

h100fan- maybe when Rich's album spawns another hit, it will stay competitive with Post's latest. In any event, the ubiquity of "Circles" and success of other tracks has helped keep his album high.

A lot of people doubted that Hollywood's Bleeding will enjoy the same longevity as beerbongs & bentleys, but the numbers say otherwise. Keep in mid there is drop in album consumption the past two weeks that is why the sudden decline.

Yeah, I don't understand how it's supposed to be funny. I love their enthusiasm to support their favorite band. It'd be cool if they have enough support to chart old albums like that. But how is that a "prank" or anything?

There's an extremely close race for #1 on the HITS Top 50 this week, as XO/Republic's The Weeknd attempts to repeat while 5 Seconds of Summer are potential spoilers with their proper debut of Calm (Interscope).

Both teams have exhausted their bullpens as we head into extra innings. But the umpires are pausing for a smoke, a booze-run and starting a fresh batch of homemade sourdough. This is the closest thing to live sports we've got.

Stay tuned for updates as numbers are still coming in and being calculated, and everything takes a little longer because we've been using our abacus as a pasta strainer. For now, the chart is too close to call.

Their UK numbers were a bit fishy lol but it's just one week anyway and hardly affects how other albums are perceived in the long run - especially in this case where The Weeknd has already been #1.

They have a large fanbase and almost always some kind of bundle. Also, their last two albums are strong.

It isn't that much different from artists who do the most to score a #1 single. No one remembers them doing the most. All history remembers is whether or not the song or album hit #1.

Yes. For veteran acts, I'd think peak was more important, prospects for impressive longevity are not strong for new material. But we have seen plenty of younger/newer acts doing all they can to come out on top.

Plenty of albums that haven't reached #1 have outsold most albums that do get that peak. In the end, it's way more important to have longevity. The singles chart is way more competitive and peaks matter way more there.

^Dependent on where one is in their career, surely a non-No. 1 album shifting a lot more than a No. 1 would be more important/noteworthy. In this day and age, though, there' a limit to that, though, given that album-equivalent units pale in comparison to what the top albums would sell back in the day.

Really surprised by some of the numbers. Probably the biggest one in my book is how close Please Excuse for Being Antisocial is to Hollywood's Bleeding for #10. Conceivably, both albums could in the Billboard 200 if the numbers for Joyner Lucas' new album are off. Also, Dua Lipa's and Pearl Jam's numbers are close. So, I really do look forward to the Billboard 200 article tomorrow to see how all this plays out.
