This might be an interesting thread. I was just listening to Really Don't Care by Demi Lovato and noticed that Cher Lloyd's verse in the song is only 18 seconds long. She features no ad libs in the song and as far as I could tell, she was only in the video for her verse and the very end of the video. Her feature added nothing to the song. Can you think of any other features that you think were pointless to add?

I always found Khalidβs feature to be odd in 1800-273-8255. It always felt tacked on

Tinashe on Body Language by Kid Ink featuring Usher. She says a single line β let's talk about it β with barely noticeable background vocals. Even she said it was a waste of a feature.

The album never needed this. It was already going great. I had to get the clean version of "Erotica" just so I wouldn't hear this song. It's just two people rapping about dumb sh!t.

She carries the song through the bridge into the final chorus.

Brendan isnβt that bad of a feature. He blends with the song perfectly with a full verse and duets in the remainder of the song after that. I mean more features that feel like they were pasted in last minute. In my example, Cher Lloyd has the very short bridge and thatβs it. No ad-libs to integrate into the song, barely in the video, the bridge doesnβt really add to the song

Modern Maroon 5 is like the reverse of this, the main artist is mostly pointless and the features are the only thing that make them relevant

That 2 Chainz remix of 7 rings comes to mind, shit was so phoned in and useless Ty Dolla $ign on Accelerate, man sounds AWFUL and detracts from it completely Sabi on Drop Dead Beautiful is a useless verse

Justin Bieber on Despacito. The song is perfectly fine without him.

Justin Bieber on Despacito. The song is perfectly fine without him. Thatβs not what I mean, though :( he is completely integrated into the song. This thread isnβt for βfeatures I donβt think were necessary as I liked the original/would prefer it without themβ, I just mean songs where the feature feels like it was added last second and has no integration to the song at all, as well as not adding to it

Either Cardi B or Bruno Mars could have done "Please Me" solo. Putting them together turned it into a too obvious attempted retread of "Finesse", only with a less memorable song.
Christina Aguilera's backing vocals on "Say Something" sound nice, but that's all she does; a less well known backing vocalist could have done just as well. It's not the actual duet that the "A Great Big World featuring Christina Aguilera" billing seems to suggest.
And while it may not be "pointless", it's worth noting that Lady Gaga's "Do What U Want" was originally written to be a solo song, and only later was it turned into an R. Kelly collaboration. For obvious reasons, Gaga probably wishes she'd just done it herself.

Wiz Khalifa on Payphone Whoever was on the Good Life by OneRepublic remix B.o.B. was featured on the "Good Life" remix. And I agree he wasn't needed; I rarely even heard that version while the original went top 10.

How has no one mentioned Rihanna on Believe It yet? Her first track in years and it's mostly background vocals? π
The Jonas Brothers are also on that Runaway Spanish song for like 20 seconds.
Cardi B is an entire afterthought on South of the Border and her verse doesn't even really add rhythmic or Latin appeal either since Camila already covers both.
I'm still completely baffled on why not one, but TWO tracks on Meghan Trainor's new album are old songs with guest vocalists just singing her original verses. Genetics with The Pussycat Dolls and After You with AJ Mitchell add nothing to their originals. Especially Genetics. After You I could maybe understand since it sort of turns it into a love song duet and AJ has had some recent airplay success, but The Pussycat Dolls don't add anything to Genetics that Meghan didn't already cover and they are a draw to a Meghan Trainor song for like 3 people max.
Big Freedia is just a hype man on Kesha's Raising Hell. She needed her own verse.
Bonus: the opposite of this. DJ Khaled is completely pointless on the overwhelming majority of "his" songs.
