It's entirely possible that Interscope will battle The Weeknd again next week for #1. This time Rod Wave will succeed 5 Seconds of Summer as the ’Scope’s challenger. At present, we’re ballparking both The Weeknd and Rod Wave at around 70k. Lil Uzi Vert’s set, entering its fifth week, could also pose a challenge.

Rod Wave (Alamo/Geffen/Interscope) 65-75k total activity, 2-3k albums
Sam Hunt (MCA Nashville) 45-55k, 15-20k

To be fair to Hits, both 5SOS and The Weeknd made some late-week moves to boost their sales figures, due to the closeness of the race. Billboard had similar projections.

You're right that the same thing could happen again if Republic feels it needs to push hard for a third week at #1, but I'd imagine the 70K projection would be pretty accurate assuming everything stays as it is now.

XO/Republic's The Weeknd once again seizes the #1 spot on the HITS Top 50, giving After Hours its third consecutive week at the top of the chart. The critically acclaimed album is approaching the top of our YTD Overall Activity chart, while "Blinding Lights" makes a strong case for Pop song of the year as it prepares to snag the #1 spot at Top 40 radio and continues to blaze on the DSP charts.

The last album to earn three consecutive weeks at #1 was Hollywood's Bleeding from the Weeknd's labelmate Post Malone.

The Weeknd's After Hours has not only proved the dominant release of the pandemic but quite possibly of the year. What will happen with his tour as his set and single continue their stunning reign? Stay tuned.
