what are some examples of songs that seemed like an egregious fit for a certain radio format but charted (or even did really well) anyways? some examples off the top of my head:
Latch going top 10 on urban Royals going #1 on urban Good Things Fall Apart going top 3 on alt Happier going #1 on alt Thunder going top 30 on active rock (a bunch of Imagine Dragons songs actually charted at active, but this feels like the most egregious)
what else can you guys think of?

Even with its "pop mix," Taylor Swift's "Our Song" was just overtly twangy and embodied too many country elements I wouldn't have ever expected it to reach the top 20 on pop.
"Thrift Shop" actually had alternative as one of its earliest supporters. Why?
"everything i wanted" is currently doing decently on dance. Yet I can't find a decent dance mix of the song anywhere.

Some more for alt:
Thru These Tears by LANY peaked at #32. This is a straight up pop song written about a pop artist. Strangely alt was the only format to jump on this.
Good Morning by Max Frost also peaked at #32. This song sounds like it was made to be in a TV commercial for an online university. Not the alt variety of those songs that X Ambassadors and Imagine Dragons make frequently, but the pop kind.
Multiple Adele songs charted there when she was just getting popular.
Thrift Shop wasn’t the only Macklemore song alt picked up, Same Love peaked at #21 there.
Get Lucky by Daft Punk and Pharrell Williams peaked at #5.
Wake Me Up! by Avicii peaked at #12 and Hey Brother peaked at #36.
Doses & Mimosas by Cherub, 2014 Alt’s #100 song was some weird disco fusion trashy anthem. It peaked at #23.
Coldplay is an alt artist, but Something Just Like This with The Chainsmokers is not an alt song. It peaked at #16.

"Bad Guy" by Billie Eilish on AAA (it is still in the top 50 on MB)
"Lay Your Head on Me" by Major Lazer and Marcus Mumford on Alt and AAA

And while we’re at recent alt hits since Daryl brought up that Major Lazer/Marcus Mumford travesty
Bang! by AJR
City of Angels by 24kGoldn
Let’s Fall In Love For The Night - FINNEAS (would be good for AAA though I guess)
death bed - Powfu f/ beabadoobee
Hell n Back - Bakar (the only song out of those that I actually like but it’s so out of place)
