Which year, in your opinion, had the most quality music put out in it? Not exclusive to the charts but music as a whole. Personally I’d say 2015.

2016 always stands out for me, 2011 would be my second pick though.

2012 is overrated IMO.
2014 isn't THAT bad. I mean it has Latch, Rather Be, Come With Me Now, etc.

Personally 2018 and 2019 which seems to be very unpopular on this poll. 2019 over 2018 though.

Nothing comes close to 2012.
2015, however, is one of my least favorites yet it's in 2nd place right now, haha. My 2nd pick would be 2016.

Why is 2012 so beloved? Honest question. Pretty much everyone on this board goes "OMG!1 Best pop year ever!" for 2012.

Why is 2012 so beloved? Honest question. Pretty much everyone on this board goes "OMG!1 Best pop year ever!" for 2012. I'd say just take a look at the top songs in the year end. Call Me Maybe, We Found Love, Titanium, and a bunch of other fun upbeat songs like all of Flo Rida's singles, Starships, Feel So Close, etc while also introducting One Direction and The Wanted to the world. I guess to put it shortly it was a fun year. I personally went for 2010.

Hmmm, I think a lot of those suck and after I took a gander at the #1's of that year on wikipedia, I find that aside from "Diamonds," "Set Fire To The Rain" and "Locked Out of Heaven" that was one crappy batch of #1's. Oh well, different strokes...

Imo 2018 and 2019 were mediocre years for pop that had some greats in other genres that make them good years.
Some of my favorites from those years: Inhaler - We Have To Move On & My Honest Face Meg Myers - Numb Death Cab for Cutie - Northern Lights half•alive - Still Feel & RUNAWAY SYML - Clean Eyes Catfish and the Bottlemen - Longshot & 2all Young the Giant - Superposition & Heat of the Summer Trench by TØP as an album The Interrupters - She’s Kerosene & Gave You Everything White Reaper - Might Be Right Badflower - Promise Me & The Jester Michigander - Misery Jade Bird - Uh Huh Tame Impala - It Might Be Time Taylor Janzen - What I Do Dua Lipa - Don’t Start Now Earl Sweatshirt - EAST Travis Scott - Highest in the Room Overcoats - The Fool
But there are so many songs to prove that 2018 and 2019 are valid choices.

In terms of music, I definitely prefer the previous decades over the 2010s, in general. However, I do feel a bit partial to 2010, simply because Monica, Toni Braxton, Keyshia Cole, Sade, Usher, Xtina, Fantasia, Ne-Yo, and Ciara came out with albums that I really like.

Oh I don't find the 2010s weak as a whole, I definitely prefer it over the 00s (that was one lame decade my God - I have that one so associated with crunk music which I find to be CRAP), but I can't decide as far as its definite best year. I'm torn between 2015 and 2016 based purely on the amount of albums I bought each year. I'll have to think more about it and vote.
Edit: I'll have to go with 2015.

I'll have to go with 2012 for the sheer amount of nostalgia that year evokes. Also, some of my favorite hit songs of the decade are from that year - "Wide Awake", "Some Nights", "The One That Got Away", "Die Young", "Titanium", "One More Night", "Diamonds", "Call Me Maybe", and "Somebody That I Used To Know", just to name a few. Usher was still relevant and doing incredible songs and collaborations, and we saw the debuts for promising UK acts like One Direction, The Wanted, and Ellie Goulding.
Also, one does not mention 2012 in music without mentioning the iconic Pop Danthology mashup that came with it, which was such a childhood favorite of mine and single-handedly catapulted my interest in popular music. 😍

The top 3 in the year end chart of 2012 all being random nobodies at the time helps cement it as my favorite year of the decade in pop music.

In terms of mainstream stuff, I like 2015 the most. It was a very impactful year for me music-wise.

2016 > 2018 > 2015 would be my top 3 i should reiterate that this is my rankings for all music, not just mainstream in terms of the hot 100, 2017 has to be my favourite. magnolia, xo tour life, redbone, dna, slide, praying, starboy etc.

It was between 2012 and 2017 for me but I think the deciding factor was that a lot of the music I discovered and loved in 2012 had actually come out in 2010/11. My jams in 2017 were current so that year won. A lot of great albums that year

I can see why 2012 is winning since Pulse has always regarded that year as the best of the decade, but I’m kinda surprised 2015 is in a solid second place. There’s some good music that year (Bieber & Adele returns, middle of 1989, Uptown Funk, EDM/tropical house, etc) but I never knew it was so loved by Pulse.
