If it’s that “Don’t Play That Song” I might die. Still one of my favorite live vocals of her ever tbh, her belts just ring through so damn clearly and powerfully.

Sounds incredible and I love that she sang it almost exactly like she did on Idol but threw in a few tiny changes that show how much more of a skilled singer she is now. Also love the mention of Idol at the end.

Obsessed with "Don't Play That Song." Same cut, same key as 18 years ago. And she still sounds like that. UNREAL. Doesn't do the same super-high runs that went beyond what even Aretha recorded, so this is a bit more faithful to the original in that way, but she still hits the F#5 after "be so mean."
God dammit she sounds so good on that song and I feel like it will continue to be an underrated cover.

I didn't recognize today's cover until it went into the chorus.

I've always felt "Don't Play That Song" was just as good though, along with "Stuff Like That There" and "Without You" (the latter of which is her most underrated Idol vocal IMO).

I heard "Would You Call That Love" on the radio today, of all songs. Sounded so good. What a missed opportunity.

I agree. Hot AC would have ate that one up. Obviously “I Don’t Think About You” didn’t pan out as expected.. at least we got that The Voice performance with a full orchestra. Which is no longer available..
Dying @ this Mariah clip though.

Big fan of her Shoop Shoop cover. Silky smooth low tones, melismatic prowess throughout, and the perfect amount of powerful notes here & there, just to say hi I'm Kelly Clarkson. So good!!!

I believe she wore a wig in this performance.

I just listened to Thankful in full for the first time since, like, 2006. I honestly believe this was the first time I had listened to like half of the album since then. It held up better than I though, to be honest. Really only the four singles plus "Beautiful Disaster" were all I remembered well (and still had in rotation since then). But "What's Up Lonely" and "Anytime" were better than I remembered and "You Though Wrong" kind of... slapped? That one came out of nowhere. Why don't I at all remember that one? And the other three, while still tracks I likely won't revisit for a long time again, were still pleasant listens.

Thankful is hands down her worst album. Almost all filler with the exception of a couple songs. I actually caught part of her show for the first time since the first handful of episodes. Shoop was FLAWLESS. @ the Denise Richards interview. I love Denise but...not sure Kelly feels the same. Her responses to Denise were so awkward and bland. Like...charity! Cool! I can tell you really like it.

it's true, When Kelly don't really care about some people, her responses really show Or maybe when she's very exhausted. I was looking forward to her interview with JoJo, but it was very underwhelming. ETA: It can also appear that way because of the editing. Regarding Thankful: She made the best out of the situation and I'm glad this was her first album to get experience as a recording artist on (imagine later albums with her Thankful singing and production style..). Also glad she didn't get Because Of You on that album.

I was under the impression that her and Denise got along famously based on their mutual tweets. Denise said they had an entire off camera discussion about Montana whom they both love.

I don't know, sometimes there's just really not much to say in response to something a guest says. lol I think they edit Kelly's responses down quite a bit since they've gone to the remote interviews. There's been numerous awkward transitions and quick changes of topics in these summer shows. The other day with Patricia Heaton, she mentioned that she didn't even care if what she was about to say made it to air, which ended up being her saying how there's a lot going on in her life, some of it wasn't planned, and trying to look at the positive of it. Without her saying anything specific, it was probably the most she's acknowledged (not that she has to) the divorce all summer... that made it to air. I have a feeling it's probably come up or she's made other mentions of it with some other guests and they've cut it out. Here's that part (at 9:25) She's filming her part tomorrow. Like with everything else, you can get virtual tickets for it. VMAsTalk ShowThe Voice

Lots of Country next week!
Edit: Just thinking about how "Keeping Score" should have been a monster hit on that format. Was it ever formally released or just a promo/buzz single? Her vocal on that is supreme.

She's got some major Stevie Nicks vibes going on there.
