Not proof that she's still got it--proof she's improved. Her cowrites on her last three albums have been stellar, and with the exception her most brilliant earlier songwriting efforts of "Because of You," "Sober," "Irvine," and "Maybe," everything from Wrapped In Red on is better than what came before it.
I get how songwriting stopped becoming a priority for her, especially after like 15 years of working for a label that didn't care about her songwriting (at best), but now that she's quarantined I'd love for her to write an entire album again.

I think it's a song that will grow on people. I'm sure the stans are relieved it's not the lead to a new album though. lol.

I agree, the song isn’t anything special and she clearly got a leftover from Hemby who has written some incredible songs! I appreciate that she likes the message and it is even more poignant now than before. I also have mad respect for her recording in so many languages. It’s just not a memorable song but I’m not sure that was ever the point. I’m curious to see what this does and if the multiple languages gives this more exposure.

It reminds me of a mix of Stronger and Breakaway, even though it never quite achieves the greatness of either of those. I can’t say enough about the vocals though. Her voice sounds in top form.

I wish I was losing weight during quarantine, I’ve gained 8lbs so far and have NEVER in my life filled out my clothes and now I do. 🐽😂
As for I Dare You, I like it. I don’t love it, but I don’t hate it. I’m indifferent. I agree with the someone else who said it didn’t excite me, it doesn’t, but it also doesn’t give me all the emo feels either. It’s just a good pop song.

Kelly has her own filter on Snapchat! I’m impressed at the way they’re handling this rollout.
I need Kelly to have at least one more Stronger sized hit. She’s getting older and it’s almost unheard of for a female artist past 35 to get a huge CHR hit (correct me if I’m wrong but CHR is ageist... maybe Pink has done it?) but Kelly still seems trendy enough to do it once more.
Wonder if anyone else is releasing soon? She is definitely benefitting from no new music recently.

Mariah, Madonna, and Gwen Stefani all racked up some hits after the age of 35. Jennifer Lopez had on the floor as a one off. Janet Jackson was 35 when she had her last huge hits. It’s not an Impossible age, 45 is when it’s basically pure luck to get a hit from a female on chr

LOVE that she did so many different versions of this in different languages. One of the most unifying things a pop artist has done with their craft in who-knows-how-long.
I’m not the biggest fan of the song itself, but I’m fully on-board with the project.

Not to deter, but I was listening to AIEW today and god did they do that era wrong. Actually such a bop of an album and I Want You and If I Cant Have You deserved to see the light of day.

Ok guys seriously c’mon it’s a Kelly Clarkson song and the year is 2020. This is on brand with who she is and where she is in her life.

If you listen carefully in the last chorus before the instrumental fades out, there is a beautiful synth melody. The song would sound epic if that melody was audible during every chorus, but who am I to tell producers what to do. It reminds me a lot of What About Us - it's the same progression. Maybe they're testing the P!nk sound on Kelly, which I don't mind for non-album singles, but that genre is very underwhelming for me. Sung by anyone else, I Dare You would be fuc*ing boring, but Kelly's voice makes it special.

Speaking of P!nk, it’s quite her vibe, but this is underwhelming, kinda like “Walk Me Home.” Both are decent, yet they could be better. I was listening to this today, and while I do like it, it just doesn’t excite me, however, it’s not a skipper (skip it when it comes on), if you know what I mean. I love P!nk and Kelly for one of the same reasons, they can emote emotion and attitude quite well in their vocal deliveries, yet these last lead singles of theirs just don’t do that.

I shared my thoughts on "I Dare You" already, but I have one small thing to add. After listening several more times, and reading some of your responses, I have to agree with the poster that said she's becoming the Martina McBride of Pop/Hot AC. I'm honestly starting to think she needs to go listen to "Wash, Rinse, Repeat" a few times. Her last few one-off singles have felt so "samey" and while not bad, I don't have a strong inclination to revisit those songs once the novelty of them wears off. I'm obviously streaming the sh*t out of IDY right now, but honestly I don't see myself revisiting this very often a year from now. It's similar to "Broken & Beautiful" and "Tie It Up" in that regard for sure.
Anyway, I've been giving this some thought and after sleeping on it a little bit, I'm wondering if Kelly cares more about commercial success than she lets on. This might explain why she keeps going back to that same sound/theme that gave her her biggest hit almost a decade ago now. While I wouldn't say MOL "underperformed" exactly, it didn't have a Top 10 single like every one of her albums on RCA did. (PBP has an asterisk* behind it, but it was still a Top 10 BBH100 hit.) I'm wondering if the reason she's seemingly "going back" to a PBP sound, and not progressing with the MOL sound, is that she and/or Atlantic are attributing the lack of commercial success with the new sound of MOL.
I think if she ever wants to have another Stronger-sized hit, she is going to need to take a risk, take a chance and make a change to her music. Pun 100% intended. If she wants another "Breakaway" moment, she needs to break away from the rut she's in with releasing these samey empowerment anthems and release something way different. Unfortunately, she tried that with MOL and it didn't really work out. I can see why she'd be hesitant to try again, but I think she absolutely should keep trying and evolving her music.
I said earlier in this thread that I prefer PBP to MOL. I still 100% stand by that, as a personal preference mainly. But that doesn't mean I'm looking for her to release leftover PBP tracks over and over again. I actually think PBP was progression for her from Stronger. MOL continued that progression, IDY has actually taken some of that progression back. I'm okay with it (kind of) since it's a one-off single, but I do hope she continues to evolve and change her sound with her next album.

Yeah. I like this song but for the past few years, Kelly's music has been very much following the same formula. You can see feel that she just gets a bunch of songs sent to her and she records them instead of focusing on writing on her own music or working alongside other writes to create something unique. I wish she would make another My December but from her happy perspective these days.

Idk what some are ya'll are saying cause Meaning of Life was a breath of fresh air especially in sound I thought that’s what they were saying. That this song has more of her old sound to it, something more akin to what was on PBP and previous albums. Well not the post above yours, had not read that one. I disagree with that person if they think MOL sounds like anything Kelly has done before.

She definitely cares about commercial success. I think she's super realistic and that, while she's still doing pop, she's releasing stuff that's 100% on brand for her (as opposed to some breakup bop that just wouldn't really fit her right now). I see her as wanting to have enough success that she can tour/have a successful Vegas residency where she has her hits (SUBG, Stronger), but also gets to keep it fresh for herself with new stuff.
I loved some of the progression of MOL, and while she's never sounded better on a record (aside from wrapped in red), I want a blend of PBP and MOL. If she could get some songs like Someone, Take You High, In The Blue, Bad Reputation, Nostalgic, War Paint, Tightrope, and then songs like Love So Soft, Heat, Medicine, Whole Lotta Woman, Would You Call That Love, along with a few killer/personal ballads (Already Gone, Sober), it would be the perfect album for me. I'm still surprised how much I enjoy PBP since it seemed like the process leading up to it was 100% just to fulfill her contractual obligations. Like they threw it together and then were like "holy shit this is actually.. really good"
I want more risks in single choices with the next album.
I want to live in a world where "In The Blue" would smash.

I imagine part of why "I Dare You" skews generic has to do with her newfound status as a talk show host. Coaches on The Voice aren't exactly known for releasing particularly edgy music either. A big downside of her current brand and level of fame is there's likely pressure to play it safe musically and not risk alienating her growing audience. Hopefully that sets her up to do something more musically interesting down the line (Broadway would serve her well, with the right role), but she's in a lane that's a bit more restrictive than someone like Beyoncé or Gaga.

I really like I Dare You, but as someone said above in a few weeks to months I won’t revisit it. I would love for her to switch it up or hell even follow some trends.
Like her serving a disco anthem with that sounds currently being popular. Something different sonically, even if it is still empowerment anthems . Or make some great love songs. Winter Dreams but make it less Christmas and more everyday. Shes got one of the greatest voices and I want her to use it in good if not GREAT material.

Still No. 1 on iTunes (for what it’s worth). I don’t understand how it’s still #1 after 24 hours with all the other new music out, especially with “trendier” younger artists - the new Sam smith/Duet Lovato duet, Morgan Wallen song, and Florence song. She had the advantage of having better television promotion with NBC/her show, but it ironically seems that she is “cooler” now at nearly 38 years old than she was a few years ago, lol.

We need to get her streams up. While I'm glad she's No. 1 on iTunes, that means little compared to Spotify/Apple Music.

How has the song performed on US radio - has it even been added to HotAC or Pop ? Also, does anyone have info on the iTunes performance of the song in the countries of her duet partners ? Eta new interviews: youtu.be/dPp40gzleZ8youtu.be/dp7-LZ9jLsc
