AIEW contains her worst song to date: WTF was she thinking with If No One Will Listen?! Having said that... there are some great songs, though songs like Cry have potential but they are killed by the loudness and compression
In a parallel world, The Day We Fell Apart was released as a single and it was a hit

I don't understand the dislike for If No One Will Listen... which has been hated on since it's release...
I don't know, for me I relate to it from battling anorexia and specifically the lines:
And, God, I know the fear that eats away at your bones It's screaming every step, "Just stay here?
If you find your fists are raw and red from beating yourself down If your legs have given out under the weight If you find you've been settling for a world of gray So you wouldn't have to face down your own hate
Like that song has always hit me hard...
Also justice for The Day We SLAYED Apart

Scarrine, clichéd, nonsense. It almost feels like it was written live in the both and the lyrics were just placeholders. Definitely up there with I Had A Dream.

Speaking of All I Ever Wanted, I revisited the album today and forgot what a gem "Impossible" is. Excellent, underrated vocal from her. Still a top-notch pop album overall. Oddly enough, Impossible flew under my radar when the album released, but at some point like 2009/2010 I just happened to hear it in an Aeropostale outlet store (yes, yes I know) and I was like "oh shit this slaps, is this Kelly? What song is this?" Then it hit it was Impossible and I couldn't believe I had missed how great it was for so long. Even now Impossible is one of my favorite album tracks of hers.

I am liiiiiiving for the Impossible discourse in here rn. Justice for Impossible!! It has always slapped and was the first Cl*ve hating song she released, which should have been reason enough to stan from day 1 tbh.

All I Ever Wanted will forever hold a special place in my heart. It's the first album of Kelly's I bought and listened to all the way through because of "Already Gone" specifically. Impossible, Ready, I Want You, The Day We Fell Apart, Save You, If I Can't Have You, Cry, Don't Let Me Stop You, All I Ever Wanted, Long Shot and of course Already Gone and My Life Would Suck Without You...it's such a slept on album. Even the "duds" (I Do Not Hook Up, Whyyawannabringmedown, Tip of My Tongue, If No One Will Listen) are decent songs in their own right. Also, Can We Go Back deserved a place on this album too: www.youtube.com/watch?v=TcC1Jc5Qgeg&ab_channel=xoj2

AIEW would have been a better album if it had been trimmed down a bit and produced (way) better--too many songs are brassy and loud and somehow tinny at the same time. And it would have been received by fans better if it didn't come after MD and reeked so hard of compromise and label/radio placation.

I’ll also add to the Impossible praise. Still one of my all-time favorites, and it does seem to fly under the radar a lot. I became a fan right when the AIEW era first began, so I feel like I have a closer attachment to the album than some fans. That being said, the bonus tracks are all 10/10 and most definitely deserved a spot on the standard version of the album, especially Can We Go Back. — Also, re: Already Gone discussion - Jason addressed some of it here in this (really good) interview that he did, and he even gave Pulse and the KCE a little shoutout! The AG talk starts around 41:03. He basically said that there’s something about the song when they play it live that Kelly and the band get bored with, even though Jason said he loves the production on it. youtu.be/zUA7cLWdawY

^Fantastic interview! Thanks for the post--it was really a great watch! I'm so glad to hear Jason likes What's Up Lonely--one of the better songs off of Thankful.
I'm a little disappointed to hear that about Already Gone. I would think that makes it unlikely we will see it back as a "staple" to her tours.

I saw another legendary pop girl this weekend and all I could think is how happy I am to be a Kelly fan. I want an album as much as everyone, but we are so lucky that we get to hear our queen in top form almost daily all these years later. And her show has kept her vocal chords in such great shape. She isn’t ducking out of her high notes or relying on the background singers. She’s simply the best.

Loved the discourse on Already Gone that's been had especially hearing Jason's thoughts. I definitely see how the magic of the song might not translate live. I wonder if there's any arrangement changes that could help.
On another note, it will be the 10 year anniversary of Stronger later this year. I'd love a vinyl record or livestream concert of the album front to back. I need SOME KC music news or content.

So many interesting tidbits and good industry advice - Jason's had quite the career trajectory! The part about Kelly's studio vocals for "People Like Us" being recorded at soundcheck on the Maroon 5 tour was fascinating.

k so I’m obsessed with her cover of You Broke Me First, does she have any actual songs like that? Probably the closest song she has to that would be Tightrope, from the Piece By Piece album. (She also included her tour version of Tightrope on Piece By Piece Remixed and I'm personally partial to that one, but it's a beautiful song either way) Other songs that might be to your liking (not sure if the production on these will be what you're looking for but vocally they're in the same territory): - Where Is Your Heart (from Breakaway) - Sober, Be Still, Maybe (from My December) - Honestly, The War Is Over, Breaking Your Own Heart (from Stronger) - Someone, Piece By Piece - Idol version (from Piece By Piece) - Cruel, I Don't Think About You, Slow Dance, Don't You Pretend (from Meaning of Life)

I can’t wait to hear Kelly and Ariana sing together. Two of the strongest vocalists in the industry.

Love the new rendition of "The Trouble With Love Is." Crazy how her recent life experiences breathe new life and soul into a 2003 song.

The Blast got ahold of some of the details of some of the rulings in the divorce so far. "According to legal documents obtained by The Blast, a Los Angeles County Court judge issued the order following arguments over issues related to the former couple’s property, children, and monthly income." - As part of a temporary ruling, starting on April 1, 2021 she has to pay him $195k/month ($150k spousal, $45k child). That's a far cry from the $436k he was asking. This can change still. - He's not managing anymore and is ranching full time and future plans include sponsoring rodeos... "Brandon “made a very deliberate choice to change his life and become a rancher full-time,” the documents state" - She wanted to sell the ranch, judge shot that down. Instead said Brandon has to cover all the costs of running it which would be around $81k/month - She has to pay $1.25M of his attorney fees and other costs. He had asked for $2M - "In the filing, the former couple’s finances are listed out, including the revelation that ‘The Voice’ judge earns an astounding $1,583,617 per month in income

Aside from her earnings going down to $1.39 million a month and that one lump sum of Brandon's lawyers' fees... She definitely got the better end of the deal, right? Especially since his spousal support ($150K a month) is going to be cut by more than half from the cost of running the ranch.
Also, it was announced that Drew Barrymore's show is going back with a fully vaccinated live audience. Production starts at the end of August. Wonder what TKCS is thinking with the variants going up everywhere...

Yeah, while it's frustrating that she has to pay for his midlife crisis, I think she got the better end of this when you factor in what he was and is asking for. And it's only for a couple more years. This is all temporary so it can all still change. It's interesting timing that he basically retired from the music business at the same time as the divorce and then the other lawsuits happened on that side of things. I think there's going to be some interesting things that are going to come out of those. This is just me throwing this thought out there regarding that. If he stated that he intended to quit managing at the same time she filed for divorce and he was her manager, that could be a logical reason for her to stop paying on that since he wasn't representing her anymore. I feel like his "minimal involvement in Blake's career" and him still being listed on Starstruck's website as a manager is just a technical thing and for show and has something to do with the Starstruck lawsuits. 🤷♀️ And yes, I've been wondering about the live audience for TKCS too. I think it's been assumed that there'd be an in person one and I know the unions and companies came to an agreement about adopting new guidelines for casts and crews, I haven't seen much about in person audiences yet. The Voice is filming this week still with proof of full vaccination. I'm interested in seeing how they handle the masking since they're required indoors in LA county and recommended for everyone in most places. What's happening now and what'll happen in a month can be totally different. I'm still hoping they'll do in person and at worst, a hybrid for TKCS. As an aside, the TKCS crew went back to work this week and Kelly filmed a promo for it already last week. Fingers crossed that everything works out like we hope.

The attorney fees irk me the most. Everything else is...not great, but more or less to be expected when you're going through a divorce and you're the breadwinner. Ultimately she's not taking a big hit so I guess she is the queen of prenups after all.
I actually agree with the judge on not letting her sell the ranch bc, assuming he does intend to stick to ranching and rodeos from now on, it would not be right to strip him of the property that would enable him to do that. If he does establish a steady income stream there, the spousal support would probably be adjusted down or eliminated at the next review, so in the long run that move was much more to Kelly's benefit than his as it potentially caps the amount of money she has to give him.
The Starstruck lawsuits are where the real messiness will be but I am hopeful that leans in Kelly's favor as well.

It still irks me that she has to pay anywhere near that amount of money, simply because she earns at a certain level and he does not. And then to think there are still the other suits pending. I wouldn’t be surprised if she never gets married again.
“He never asks for money.” We’re gonna need an update on that for the next album!

Why does she have to pay his attorney fees?
Anyway I don’t know why rich people get married. Just live together and protect your assets.

I read he's gonna get $200k/month from Kelly? WTF??? So unreal, and what a loser. Kelly should just not pay, there are plenty of men that do that and he definitely does not "need" that amount.
