The topic of whether songs in movies, tv shows, ads, etc. should count is interesting, because at first I thought no way, but then I was thinking wait a minute, this refers to synch deals, which can make a significant amount of money for labels, publishing companies, and all parties involved, ESPECIALLY if the song is or becomes popular. So in terms of the biggest drivers of revenue, which is part of the Hot 100, synch deals can definitely rank high up there, and if the movie or show becomes popular, a lot of people will hear the song. In terms of listener choice, however, there is none, as the audience is completely captive and will listen to whatever song is played, unless people would seek out a movie or tv show specifically to listen to a particular song, which usually isn't the case.
It's an interesting topic, but I still don't know how much and if at all they should count, and any impact the songs have are typically felt through the other metrics already, such as when people go to stream and download the songs. Another thing is that older, classic songs are used very heavily in synch deals because they provide consistent, steady income, so you could have a song like New York, New York or some famous instrumental like Beethoven's 5th charting for years and years and years.

Good point about Tiktok views being in the similar "automatic" type Facebook is which is more to prone inaccuracy and manipulation. And will Tiktok allow third party Nielsen Soundscan audit their views?

Something else that could be interesting and helpful would be the like-to-view ratio. Because maybe something might get viewed a million times for example, but then will get like 100 likes. The music choice definitely impacts the success of the Tik Tok tbh

I like the way that TikTok/Commercials/Movie Songs are counted now.
If people like the songs they hear in those medias, they’ll stream/buy them and make them hits.

What about classic songs though? Like Mr. Blue Sky or Hooked on a Feeling got big and popular with the younger generation thanks to the Guardians of the Galaxy movies, should those songs chart again?

Am I the only one who wishes for less longevity overall? Not hating on Post, I like "Circles", but I'd take faster turnover over stagnant top 10s any day. 34 weeks is an insane amount of time for ANY song to spend in the top 10, come on now. I for one am waiting for the day songs spend a full year in the top ten |

It's crazy how Travis' songs have been rising on Spotify and Apple Music days before the concert even begins. If Marshmello benefited from it and had a 2016 song re-enter, you can bet Travis will do even more damage. I expect both "SICKO MODE" and "HIGHEST IN THE ROOM" to re-enter, not to mention the boosts for his features which are already charting.

Yeah, being popular on TikTok, getting over 55M streams in a week, still being #1 on Spotify almost 3 weeks after release, and getting really good radio increases definitely means that the song "has a limited appeal." |

If Travis didn't credit Drake after the song dropped, after all the times they performed the song together in 2018 and after the song went #1, there's no way he's crediting Drake now. Drake doesn't need the credit anyways. He'll just grab more #1 hits this year. |
