Love & Rockets barely miss out on making another mainstream rock rankdown. This song did do fairly well in the 1988 Modern Rock rankdown though where it came in at #38. EXTRA
No New Tale to Tell Love & Rockets

Well I'm certainly very disappointed "In God's Country" and "The Dead Heart" couldn't make the top 10 over the trash that is "New Sensation" and "Sweet Child O' Mine".

Surprises: My bottom 75 is gone. Oh, and I guess Hysteria would qualify as well.
Disappointments: Tunnel of Love, maybe?
Predictions: Nah, already did one for 2002 and am worn out. But I'll guess Never Tear Us Apart beats Beds are Burning for the title?

didn’t expect The Alarm to make the Top 10, but I’m not complaining
I remember hearing this song played on the radio as my friend David stopped his car to pick me up during a downpour, so it always reminds me of him

20. Don't Shed a Tear - Paul CarrackI never shed any tears for this song. Not even on pop. I feel those guitar strums should have been harder, and I didn't like the overall vocal works in the chorus. Those backups sounded out of place. Great for Hall & Oates music , but not for this song. 19. Finish What Ya Started- Van Halen A bit of a different vibe for Han Hagar but still a damn fine Rock song. Speaking of Fine. How fine was that music video. 18. All Fired Up - Pat BenatarVery few times I'll leave Pat out of my top 20. This song rocked just fine, but I'm saving those top slots for her 1980-1984 hits. 17 .Check It Out - John MellencampNice to see John get some top 20 love. I'm hoping the same "Cherry Bomb" and "Paper In Fire" and hopefully I can get some Mellencamp in the top 10 now that the Hair Metal songs will be fewer from this year forth. 16. In God's Country - U2This is the big mistake I was talking about. I meant to tank "Jesus Christ" not God. This would have slotted in my 60's. That's the best I could truthfully do with it, but not meant to be in my bottom ten. Least of all #100. I don't know how I confused this with that banjo Picking travesty, but I did. 0000OOPs 15. The Flame - Cheap TrickThis is one of Cheap Trick's best songs that wasn't written by Cheap Trick. Another band that wasn't too keen on ballads, but man they made this one work wonders for the rock and pop world. Only a Def Leppard powrballad could beat this one. Also this feels like God punishing me for that last U2 song I tanked. 14. Only a Memory - The SmithereensCool song. I like way more on Modern Rock radio stations. 13. One Step Up - Bruce SpringsteenThis was a also a first time listen for me, and for a poprock ballad it wasn't half bad. It made my top 50 and you know you have to rock to get in there. 12. The Dead Heart - Midnight OilHey what's with that big space? Both Midnight Oil songs made my top 40. Few Alternative rock cruise overs can accomplish that on my Active Rock RDs. 11. Tunnel of Love - Bruce SpringsteenI think this was the last time I ever charted Bruce. After this we went all soft on me. Anyway I still think that other first time lsten was slightly better that this one. Truthfully I don't care what song wins, because two Hair Metal bands made the top 10 and I hope I gave those two bands the highest ranks.

Extras:Handle with Care - Traveling WilburysSo this also missed the top 100. How does this super group miss the list? I swear it seems mainstream rock was just picking songs out a hat to rank in the top 100. There's the Girl - HeartI think this one made the Hot 100 YE list? Anyway this one was always one of those melodic ,softer Glam ,guilty pleasures of mine. I'm thinking top 40 on my list. Hangman Jury - AerosmithThis song is alright. I liked it because of Steven Tyler's vocals and not much else. Fast Car - Tracy ChapmanPart of me wished this coma fest would have made the top 100. This way I certainly wouldn't have made the mistake of tanking The U2 song. Another part of me wishes not, because it would have pissed me off to see this go top 10 on Mainstream Rock rank down. 8D The Only One - Jimmy PageThis just means i would have ranked another Robert Plant vocal in my top 40. No New Tale to Tell - Love & RocketsPretty standard boring Love & Rockets. Not much more. Believe in Love - ScorpionsGreat song. One of those songs I can't help crooning along too whenever I throw this CD on my player. Most of these Extras would have made my Top 50 look a lot more Hairier.

THE ACTIVE 1988 TOP 10 Three INXS songs making this top 10 is kinda overkill. I do love them ,and all three made my top 40, but comon.... Four of these other songs make my own top 10. Three of them you should know for sure. Care to guess songs #4? The lowest ranking I gave one of these ten was #55 and the highest #3. I'm going for broke and guessing "Sweet Child O' Mine" takes the win. but even it it doesn't who cares, because TWO hair Metal bands made to the top 10. Def Leppard - Hysteria Guns N' Roses - Sweet Child O' Mine Icehouse - Electric Blue INXS - Devil Inside INXS - Never Tear Us Apart INXS - New Sensation Midnight Oil - Beds Are Burning The Alarm - Rain in the Summertime The Church - Under the Milky Way U2 - Desire

Yeah once again, I apologize for the Electric Blue tank. I would have it way higher if I re-did my list. Perhaps the worst rankdown blunder I've done so far.

Love INXS. Saw them multiple times in concert. Michael Hutchence was incredible. That said, I never got the love for this song. The Listen Like Thieves, Swing Album and Shoobah Shaabah albums are all incredible, IMO.
