Those are excellent picks. Most of them are a little too safe but perhaps I’m only saying this cause I’m getting eliminated :’(
Anyways, I see some of my favorite songs of all time here. I won’t be that mad if I’m out.

CASTING RESULTS27 of you have completed the task required to get into the competition, but only 18 will become a part of this season's official cast. The first name I'm going to call is the person who pleased the judges best on the casting couch round, becoming the first person to officially enter this competition, and that person is... WILLAPTED! Kanye West - "Runaway"
Sambalada: (8.5) Gates: (8.0) Walt91: "Inarguably one of Kanye’s best songs, and in my opinion, one of the best rap songs of the 2010’s, period. Everything about this song is hauntingly beautiful, especially the outro with the unintelligible vocoder. It’s a stunning look into the mind of one of the most polarizing, controversial figures in music." (9.6) Hamed: "Probably one of my favorite songs from Kanye, the song just feels self aware. It's kind of a peer into his mind and the song's melody and production are just fantastic. I also absolutely love the outro to the song, it's a great memorable way to close off such a fantastic song." (8.7) Mayman: "let's have a toast for the douche bags
let's have a toast for the assholes
let's have a toast for the scumbags
every one of them that I know
let's have a toast for the jerk offs
that'll never take work off
baby I got a plan
run away fast as you caaaannnn
This is one of my favorite songs of last decade. Kanye and Pusha KILLED it. The production, the lyrics, everytbing is just amazing. It's such a vibey song too. Great." (10)

These following participants also made the official cast!SLIPPERY{Spoiler} Mariah Carey - "Fantasy"
Sambalada: (9.0) Gates: (7.0) Walt91: "Easily among Mariah’s best, singles or otherwise. I love how the “Genius Of Love” sample is used here, and Mariah’s vocals are flawless as always." (9.2) Hamed: "This song makes me always think of Rush Hour first and foremost lol. This is a classic and just such a fun breezy song that is just so endearing to my heart. Like seriously how can you NOT like this song, it's so joyful and a reminder why Mariah is a legend." (9.3) Mayman: "This is probably not even in my top 10 songs from her and it's still so good. The bridge and outro are the best part of the song in my opinion. A great song overall, and I definitely prefer this one to the remix, but the remix is still good too." (9.9)
TOTAL: 44.4 | AVERAGE: 8.88 DISTRICT{Spoiler} Lizzo - "Juice"
Sambalada: (9.4) Gates: (8.0) Walt91: "Lizzo’s energy on this song is infectious, and it puts a smile on my face every time I listen to it. Still can’t believe this only charted at #82 on the Hot 100." (9.4) Hamed: "Probably my favorite song for the first half of last year and it was my intro to Lizzo. I absolutely love how funky and effortlessly charismatic Lizzo sounds on this song. It's a perfect throwback sound with modern attitude and speaking of Lizzo, she delivers a lot of personality on this. Easily the best Lizzo song and it should have been her hit over Truth Hurts and Good As Hell." (9.0) Mayman: "I've never been as big on this one as others, but I still enjoy it. It's definitely my favorite of her CILY singles. I'm not a big fan of the verses, but I enjoy the chorus and that fun bridge." (8.5)
TOTAL: 44.3 | AVERAGE: 8.86 BB{Spoiler} Robyn - "Dancing On My Own"
Sambalada: (9.8) Gates: (6.3) Walt91: "I don’t want to give out two 10/10s in one round - but this song is just a masterpiece. Best pop song of the 2010’s easily. What makes this song so special to me is the contrast between the upbeat production and the soul-crushingly depressing lyrics. Pop perfection." (10) Hamed: "A glossy thumping production and Robyn's elegant soft vocals is just a match made in heaven. Easily the best song Robyn has ever done and one of the best pop songs probably ever released. Its just so euphoric and melodically pleasing, I can't help but adore every second of it." (10) Mayman: "I've never been a huge fan of this once, but it's alright. It's definitely not something I would have on repeat, but I wouldn't skip it if it came on." (7.7)
TOTAL: 43.8 | AVERAGE: 8.76 MATT{Spoiler} Kate Bush - "Running Up That Hill (A Deal With God)"
Sambalada: (9.6) Gates: (9.5) Walt91: "Whoever sent this, y’all chose well ‘cause this is possibly my favorite song of all time. Words can’t explain how good this song is, it’s just immaculate in every way. Incredible, incredible song." (10) Hamed: "I did not expect a Kate Bush song to show up here. Kate Bush's vocals just evoke so much emotion as she just sounds heavenly from start to finish. Her voice is just euphoric and I absolutely love the production of this song. I also f**king love the bridge of this song, but the whole song just feels like audible magic if that makes any sense." (9.4) Mayman: "Wow she's singing in cursive. The singer is trying way too hard lmao. This was pretty boring and I don't think I would ever return to this." (5.3)
TOTAL: 43.8 | AVERAGE: 8.76 FEARLESS{Spoiler} Taylor Swift - "Style"
Sambalada: (9.2) Gates: (7.0) Walt91: "“1989” remains Taylor’s best album IMO, and this is my personal favorite off of it. That guitar riff is pop gold, and the production on this in general is just flawless. Taylor’s vocal performance here is also killer." (9.3) Hamed: "Another song I expected to see, this one is just perfect. Taylor vocally delivers a good performance that matches her great songwriting that fits over such an amazing production. One of Taylor's best for sure." (9.0) Mayman: "This has never really burned on me while some of the other 1989 singles have. These are the kinda songs I like from her and think she should do more stuff like this." (9.0)
TOTAL: 43.5 | AVERAGE: 8.7 CARRIE{Spoiler} Dua Lipa - "Physical"
Sambalada: (8.4) Gates: (7.0) Walt91: "This is gonna make me sound like the most stereotypical Pulse poster… but yeah, I love this lol. This is just the definition of a bop in every way, and that bridge is pop bliss. I’m gonna be honest, though, it feels like a bit of an obvious choice? I’m not gonna remove points for that, though." (9.1) Hamed: "I knew someone was gonna send this one at some point in this thing. Anyways, the very moment this song starts it just screams 80s pop to me. This is just one infectious song that gets better as it plays on. Dua vocally serves her best, the lyrics are great, but that production is just exhilarating. It reminds me if all the things I just loved about 80s pop music and it is just an amazing pop song." (9.2) Mayman: "I hate to reward the easy way out. This song is so good though. The chorus is good and that bridge is phenomenal. Everytime I hear that bridge it makes me feel like I'm in the music video." (9.7)
TOTAL: 43.4 | AVERAGE: 8.68 SAMOSAURUS{Spoiler} Florence + The Machine - "Shake It Out"
Sambalada: (9.5) Gates: (6.4) Walt91: "What an anthem. Lyrically, this song is about releasing whatever emotions are weighing you down, and the anthemic instrumental really conveys that message. Great song, this was a favorite of mine back in 2012 and it holds up incredibly well." (8.9) Hamed: "Florence's voice on this song just gives me the chills. She sounds spectacular, she sounds like she is dragging my ass to the church. Runs for days and the lyrics are just as good. If a song could be a baptism, then this is the song for it lol." (9.3) Mayman: "This was an amazing discovery. I saved this to my library. What a great chorus and great lyrics. I've never really heard much (at least that I remember) from her, so this was a great introduction to her music." (9.3)
TOTAL: 43.4 | AVERAGE: 8.68 ADRIAN C.{Spoiler} Coldplay - "The Scientist"
Sambalada: (9.0) Gates: (7.4) Walt91: "The piano line on this is simple, sure, but sometimes simplicity is better than reinventing the wheel. I love how the song builds up to the guitar solo, and the lyrics are great too. One of Coldplay’s best." (9.1) Hamed: "Probably one of the best piano ballads of all time, Chris sounds so f**king good and the production is so good. A hauntingly beautiful ballad and f**k that outro is hands down amazing." (8.9) Mayman: "This is a classic! What a timeless and beautiful song. The Scientist is one of my favorites from them. The gradual buildup is really cool and makes the song for me." (8.9)
TOTAL: 43.3 | AVERAGE: 8.66 SURFBOARDT{Spoiler} Ariana Grande - "breathin"
Sambalada: (9.5) Gates: (6.0) Walt91: "Anxiety anthem! I have anxiety myself, and this song always helps to make me less stressed when I’m having a bad day. Plus, Ariana’s vocals are great and the production is excellent as well." (9.4) Hamed: "I was so expecting an Ariana song to show up which isn't a bad thing at all. This one is a song that captivated me from first listen. I love that the song picks up steam after that first chorus. Ariana's vocals on this are great, the melody is lovely, and the production is wonderful." (8.7) Mayman: "I hate to reward whoever chose the easy way out (in this case, in) but damn this song is so good. The chorus, the production, the vocals, everything is so good. It's in my top 5 from Sweetener for sure." (9.6)
TOTAL: 43.2 | AVERAGE: 8.64 VIOLET{Spoiler} Alvvays - "Dreams Tonite"
Sambalada: (8.8) Gates: (8.4) Walt91: "I love the dreamy atmosphere of this song! Very chill song, but in all the best ways. Great pick! (8.8) Hamed: "Wow this song is so dreamy and s**t is it relatable. It was like hypnotic and the song just made me think of all sexy faces I've seen on the bus, train, or the street and just ran wild in my head with the sight of a stranger....perhaps in ways that I shouldn't. Why is this song giving me the chills now, f**k I love this." (8.0) Mayman: "This was a discovery for me, and wow I love this. I saved it to my library because it's a whole VIBE. I love the vocals and that chill production. This was a great song to send in." (9.0)
TOTAL: 43.0 | AVERAGE: 8.6 CHARMANDER{Spoiler} Tracy Chapman - "Fast Car"
Sambalada: (9.5) Gates: (8.4) Walt91: "One of the best hits of the ‘80s. Even if I can’t relate to the specific lyrical scenario here, the general sentiment of wanting to escape a s**tty situation hits me." (9.5) Hamed: "Oh no, oh no, please no I love this song. I just absolutely love the lyrics of this one and Tracy's voice. The simple melody just makes me focus on Tracy and the lyrics, this is a song that is just beautifully written. This is one of those songs I just never want to end, and the song itself is near 5 minutes long as is." (8.9) Mayman: "Eh, this was alright. It's on the boring side imo. I like the lyrics but everything else is definitely something I don't enjoy much. It's just not for me." (6.3)
TOTAL: 42.6 | AVERAGE: 8.52 EIDDE{Spoiler} Metallica - "For Whom The Bell Tolls"
Sambalada: (8.3) Gates: (10) Walt91: "Honestly, metal isn’t really a genre I’m super into, but this is still a classic. That instrumental kicks all kinds of ass." (8.7) Hamed: "Talk about how to give a song a killer intro, this embodies that statement. So I'm not so much a fan of Metallica's music cause it personally isn't always much thing but I do think they know how to craft songs with good lyrics, melodies, and killer instrumentals. Like above all else, the production of this song is what gravitates to me the most alongside the lyrics. So even though I'm not a Metallica fan I do respect there artistry and craft." (7.3) Mayman: "I thought it was just going to be an instrumental the whole time until the lyrics started halfway through the song. It wasn't bad. I wouldn't return but it was alright. This was definitely a bold choice." (7.5)
TOTAL: 41.8 | AVERAGE: 8.36 GV{Spoiler} The Weeknd feat. Daft Punk - "I Feel It Coming"
Sambalada: (8.7) Gates: (7.9) Walt91: "Man, this is a groovy song. With the exception of CFMF, I’ve always liked Abel’s retro-inspired songs, and this is one of them. Daft Punk steal the show here IMO, especially by the final chorus and outro with the vocoder line." (8.6) Hamed: "First things first, Daft Punk gave a fantastic production for this song and Abel sounds fantastic. The song is very funky and reminiscent of disco music of the olden days, very nostalgic. It wasn't my top favorite from Starboy but it's still a great song." (8.5) Mayman: "Although this is probably one of my least favorite singles from The Weeknd to be released after his breakout, doesn't mean it's bad. I still enjoy it, even if it is a little repetitive and I don't think it really goes anywhere." (7.8)
TOTAL: 41.5 | AVERAGE: 8.3 NICK PERKINS{Spoiler} Marvin Gaye - "Let's Get It On"
Sambalada: (8.9) Gates: (7.0) Walt91: "IMO, this is THE defining sex jam, and it’s easy to see why. This song is so smooth and Marvin’s passionate vocals here are sexy as hell. Classic." (8.7) Hamed: "Oh boy another classic, Marvin's voice is just divine. Every word, he just sounds so smooth and sleek. An R&B classic but I don't come back to this that much tbh." (8.1) Mayman: "I've surprisingly never heard this before. I enjoyed it and it was nice and chill. I don't have much to say so that's about it for this one." (8.6)

15 spots have been filled. The last 3 person to be competing this season are...BORN{Spoiler} Sam Fender - "Dead Boys"
Sambalada: (7.0) Gates: (7.9) Walt91: "I’ve been meaning to check out more of his discography since I loved “Will We Talk”, and this is a great introduction! The lyrics about toxic masculinity and suicide are dark but explore a message I wish more artists would tackle, and the instrumentation by the final chorus is incredible!" (8.3) Hamed: "Holy s**t this is a dark song lyrically but it is an eye opener that we need more of. Sam's voice is amazing and the very moment the production picks up, my feelings for this song ultimately soared. Our society does not talk much of suicide and it's something we need more of. That final chorus is bliss and just left me in awe listening to the outro." (8.6) Mayman: "This is one of my favorites from his album. I love the lyrics and the production is pretty good. There's something that I really like about his music, which is normally something I wouldn't be really into." (9.4)
TOTAL: 41.2 | AVERAGE: 8.24 SHRUGGIE{Spoiler} Lorde - "Green Light"
Sambalada: (8.5) Gates: (5.0) Walt91: "There are better songs off Melodrama IMO, but this is still a really uplifting and infectious pop song. Wish this had been a bigger hit for Lorde." (8.6) Hamed: "I just absolutely love the melody of this song and Lorde just delivers all on fronts. The song was such a pleasant surprise and an amazing departure from the sound she built up on her debut. I was immediately floored by this song when it dropped and I still think it is just as much a euphoric banger as it was then. It probably is my favorite on Melodrama." (9.2) Mayman: "This is my favorite song from her. The fast-paced feeling of the song is so great. The back and forth between the "calm" vocal and "loud" vocal is so cool. I love it!" (9.8)
TOTAL: 41.1 | AVERAGE: 8.22 ZACH{Spoiler} Demi Lovato - "Cool For The Summer"
Sambalada: (9.2) Gates: (6.2) Walt91: "This slaps. The guitars combined with Demi’s sultry yet powerful vocals here make for a hot as hell song. Seriously, Demi kills it here, definitely my favorite performance from her. My only complaint is that there are some lyrics I’m not wild about (the “die for each other” line especially, it seems out of place), but still, great song!" (8.7) Hamed: "Killer production check, Hoe anthem check, Killer vocals check. This song owned my summer of 2015 and I still think it's a fantastic song. That production really goes HARD and Demi sounds perfect over it. It was definitely unexpected from Demi when it came out and it just delivered." (9.0) Mayman: "This has grown on me over time and I used to not like it. Now I do and I love the chorus. The verses are meh and I could probably do without them but when that instrumental switch happens and the loud chorus comes, it just makes you sing along with Demi." (8.0)

That means these 9 people, including one extremely unlucky person, failed to make the cut. I'm sorry but your journey has to end before Round 1.MOD{spoiler} Bloc Party - Banquet
Sambalada: (8.4) Gates: (9.3) Walt91: "This is a really fun song. The instrumentation here in particular is great, especially the guitars and drums. The outro here is glorious too. Great discovery!" (8.6) Hamed: "Ooh it's been forever since I've heard this song. I absolutely love the instrumental and the song honestly gets better as it progresses. Especially the guitar during the "I'm on fire" outro. I also love the lyrics to this song and that is straight up is literally about sex lol." (8.3) Mayman: "The song starts out strong, but I was underwhelmed after. I was expecting the vocals to be on par with the production/instrumental, but it wasn't. Something like, for example, Hypersonic Missiles pulls that off really well." (6.4)
TOTAL: 41.0 | AVERAGE: 8.2 LYHOM{spoiler} Phoenix - "1901"
Sambalada: (8.8) Gates: (8.2) Walt91: "I remember hearing this song a lot on the radio when I was younger, and coming back to it now it holds up well! Really fun song." (8.3) Hamed: "Ok so I dig the production on this song, it captivated me from the very start. The song is pretty upbeat and kept me hooked from the very start." (7.5) Mayman: "This was cute. Nothing too special. It's catchy and I enjoyed the instrumental. Nothing much else to say about it." (7.6)
TOTAL: 40.4 | AVERAGE: 8.08 JUG{spoiler} Alphaville - "Forever Young"
Sambalada: (8.2) Gates: (6.3) Walt91: "I’m not sure how I feel about the vocals here, but everything else about this song is great. As someone who has a lot of anxiety about the future and getting older, the lyrical sentiment hits differently for me. Plus, I really like the solo at the end." (8.5) Hamed: "Honestly this is a song that has aged rather well. Which is ironic cause this is a song made during Cold War era and lyrically definitely is relevant to that. Yet it still feels like it can apply to today, this one just never ages for me." (8.2) Mayman: "This was a discovery. I listened to this multiple times and it grew on me each time. I really like the vocals and the production is good. The only thing that lowers it for me is it starts off a little too boring." (7.6)
TOTAL: 38.8 | AVERAGE: 7.76 MYLO{spoiler} Tove Lo - "Glad He's Gone"
Sambalada: (7.4) Gates: (5.8) Walt91: "I wasn’t expecting to see this here, but I’m certainly not complaining! If I ever go through a s**tty breakup, this is gonna be one of the songs I play, and that chorus hits hard. Underrated jam, and I appreciate that whoever sent this took a risk!" (9.2) Hamed: "I absolutely love me some Tove Lo, this songis well written and is great thematically. Friendship is everything, f**k love if you ain't got some good friends who stand by you forever and always. My apologies if that came off a bit strong, but I do I think this song is very endearing lyrically and melody wise it's a chill song that matches it completely. It isn't my favorite from Tove nor Sunshine Kitty, but it's still a nice song." (8.1) Mayman: "This was a discovery for me and I liked it. My favorite part is the vocal layering throughout the song. It really makes the song better for me. The lyrics are good as well." (8.2)
TOTAL: 38.7 | AVERAGE: 7.74 PREDS{spoiler} Cavetown - "Devil Town"
Sambalada: (7.6) Gates: (6.5) Walt91: "My sister has been obsessed with this song for the past few days, bit of a coincidence that I get to judge it here lol. I really like how energetic the instrumentation is here! I wasn’t crazy about his voice though, maybe in a more low-key song I could ignore it but it definitely stood out against the high-energy production. Still, this is a pretty enjoyable song, and I like how the lyrics tackle a subject as difficult as divorced parents." (7.2) Hamed: "I love the intro into the song and the melody immediately got me invested. Then I listened to the lyrics and read them as I listened, it was a slap in the face...and I loved it. The song is fantastic, the lyrics are deep, and that instrumental was fun." (8.8)
Mayman: "This was a discovery for me and it's cute, I guess. I like the production but whoever is singing it kinda annoying. Like I said, the production is good and saves it for me." (7.1)
TOTAL: 37.2 | AVERAGE: 7.44 FIREFLIES{spoiler} twenty one pilots - "My Blood"
Sambalada: (6.5) Gates: (6.4) Walt91: "Oh, this is cool! It’s a different sound than what I was expecting from these guys, definitely reminds me of MGMT in particular. The synths here are excellent. I’m not wild about the vocals on first listen, but this was pretty nice!" (7.4) Hamed: "Probably one of my few takeaways from all of twenty one pilots,I love the funky nature of the song and Tyler's vocals on this are nice." (7.7)
Mayman: "I do enjoy this one. It's a little left field from some of their other Trench singles, but it's still enjoyable. Wish this entire album era had better success besides on Alt." (8.0)
TOTAL: 36.0 | AVERAGE: 7.2 AU$TIN{spoiler} Fergie - "Big Girls Don't Cry"
Sambalada: (9.4) Gates: (3.9) Walt91: "I really like the chorus on this song, but I honestly find the verses uninteresting and the lyrics feel a little basic at points." (5.6) Hamed: "Ok I know this is a classic but I was never crazy over it. Fergie's voice on this is lovely and I love the change in sound this was for her. It's a classic but like in the long run, this is my least favorite of the singles from it's album. Nothing wrong with it, but it's no Glamorous or Clumsy. The song also is just kinda corny. Also, I love the touches of violin in the production." (7.2) Mayman: "I'm sure the other judges will tank this, but I like this song. I like the emotional feeling to the song and it's just overall well written. If you had sent any of the Dutchess singles I would've likely given you at least an 8 lol." (8.3)
TOTAL: 34.4 | AVERAGE: 6.88 CRAP{spoiler} Blue October - "Into The Ocean"
Sambalada: (6.8) Gates: (5.5) Walt91: "There’s something about the lead singer’s voice which I just can’t get into, but the instrumentation on this song is good otherwise." (6.3) Hamed: "Lyrically this song is nice. If you haven't ever felt like your drowning in your miserable thoughts then I envy you and wish bad things upon you, jk...maybe. Anyways back to the song, I'm not the biggest fan of Justin vocally tbh. The instrumental also fits on this one very well, but the lyrics were the strong point." (6.8) Mayman: "This was another discovery for me. I really liked it and the production was excellent! The background ad libs were a nice touch to the song." (8.4)
TOTAL: 33.8 | AVERAGE: 6.76 LEO{spoiler} Clean Bandit feat. Zara Larsson - "Symphony"
Sambalada: (9.2) Gates: (5.9) Walt91: "The production on this song is pristine, as with most Clean Bandit songs, and this is certainly a good song, but I don’t find myself seeking it out much." (6.5) Hamed: "his is a very pretty song, Zara sounds her best here and I love the intricacies of CB's production on this song. Though one thing with CB, a lot of there songs have similar melodies and production at times, though I distinguish this one from there other tracks. Definitely one of the best songs from CB." (8.2) Mayman: "This was a choice... definitely a choice. The chorus is bizarre, annoying, and obnoxious. If the chorus was removed I would give this song a slightly better score, but wow, this is bad." (2.7)
