Is the label going to drop "What I'm Leaving For"? While not connecting as well as this it is starting to take off on country radio (#39 on Billboard, #40 on Mediabase this week).

This is a good song! I liked âWhat Iâm Leaving Forâ as well. Wish they could have 2 hits at the same time!

Oh wow, do Songland songs usually get a radio release? I've been listening to this one the last few days (I am paying attention to this season of Songland because Martina is supposed to be on the show in a few weeks!!!!!!! ) This song is pretty good. I enjoy it more than I have enjoyed most of Lady A's music through the years. They've been pretty great since they came back from their break, imo.

Interesting. I do like this, but I bet this would be the end for their currrent single. I can't see them with two songs climbing at the same time.

This is kinda odd timing, I will say. I highly doubt they would just give up on their current album era for this one song. That, plus the fact that it is basically thrown to radio immediately leads me to think it might be just kinda thrown out there to see what happens, while they continue to promote "What I'm Leaving For".

Yeah "What If I Never Get Over You" was a pretty big hit, not tremendous (peak of #40 on the Hot 100 while solid is not indicative of a huge hit single). But I could see this song being as big as "Bartender" at least with a proper country radio push.

They released it to radio because it got a huge response. "For immediate airplay", especially in this situation when they already have a single climbing in the top 40, means they will wait and see what the radio reaction is. If they were 100% going to dump "What I'm Leaving For," they would have given this an impact date.

Exactly whatâs happening. And if it hits, itâll be added to a deluxe edition of this album.

Impact date is 4/27/2020 I didn't see it in my PR from Play MPE but I see it listed on the free Play MPE website -- my mistake. Although, the following Monday by default is usually an impact date, if one is given for immediate airplay, but yes this does technically have an impact date. lol

Really. It should be her lead, not a Songland track

Wow, this is surprising! I am totally here for this turning into an actual hit single for them though. I like this a lot more than "What I'm Leaving For," personally, and I could definitely see this being a smash for them. Since none of the previous Songland winners had been given actual pushes as singles, I was expecting this to just more or less go to waste for them, but I'm glad that doesn't seem to be the case! Iâm surprised it has so many co-writers... Because of the nature of the Songland show, it was worked on by all members of the judging panel.

R.I.P. âWhat Iâm Leaving Forâ, but I understand why theyâre moving on from it. I absolutely did not like âChampagne Nightâ when I first heard it but itâs slowly growing on me. I still super-cringe at Hillary saying âlitâ though, lmao

I love "What I'm Leaving For" (and it is SO appropriate for the current times) but I LOVE this song and I am SO here for it to get a radio push! Hopefully it sticks, even if it's at the expense of "What I'm Leaving For." A summer BOP!

This was my favorite of the 4 songs in Songland. Pretty catchy and uplifting. They did a great job reworking it, although the original song was already pretty good to me. I wonder how much the original writerâs royalties are diluted in this process, by the way? ... Anyway. I hope this does well for LA and the show -which has already produced solid songs that shouldâve been promoted further...

I think the good response on Itunes for this song made them to release it as a single although I liked the song and it fit them well I wouldnt like to see them dropping out the album so soon.

Theyâre definitely not dropping an album any time soon. If this ends up being successful at country radio I think theyâll return to Ocean for the next single. Edit: I definitely misread your post lol, sorry! Ignore the first sentence

Hmm interesting decision - I do hope this works out the best for them since it is selling incredibly well! It didn't leave much of an impression on me on first listen but I probably need to revisit it again.
I think this is the right decision though - "What I'm Leaving For" could turn out to be a hit but I think it won't be doing anything to really continue the momentum that "What If I Never Get Over You" got them. If anything I think it'll turn out similarly to the past few eras where the second single fizzles out in the top 20, and that's not what Lady A needs at this point in their career. I think "Champagne Night" has a better chance of getting them a second top 10 in a row which hasn't happened for them since "Compass"/"Bartender" and at least retain some of the momentum they have regained. Hopefully it'll be a quicker climb than "What If I Never Get Over You".

Iâm surprised it has so many co-writers... Like Nick said, all of the 3 judges and then fellow songwriter Andrew DeRoberts who must have some connection with the show plus the artist all interact in the process of creating a new version of the song, so they all get a credit. The original, I assume was written by: Patricia Conroy, Tina Annette Gemza, Madeline Rae Merlo, & Dave Thomson. Although this song is completely different than the version that was originally presented on the show, so it's practically two different songs. I too would like to know what the original songwriters' cut of this is. I wouldn't be shocked to see them have to sign their lives away to just get on the show. Anyway, this song is fire. So glad it's getting released to radio. I'd love for this to become a huge hit, but if WILF is still being promoted, I'm not sure if it will. Although, this is pure radio ear candy, so I could totally see radio playing this regardless of whether it's heavily promoted or not - especially if it continues to connect via streaming and sales.

It took THAT many people to write THIS? This is catchy enough, but nothing particularly special. It'd be ok on the radio for me.

This video is sweet. And totally makes it seem like they are abandoning "What I'm Leaving For". Which, is too bad... it has really started to connect with people after the ACM performance. (It's also one of my favorites). Hopefully they can work both singles at once. But, we'll see. I agree that "Champagne Nights" should definitely do more for their momentum.

It's weird because the consensus online from what I have seen on Twitter is that this song sounds very similar to "Rich" by Maren Morris, a song that most know that I loathe, and yet I can't get enough of this song, it helps that Hillary sings a good chunk of the song and sounds great.
Also the part of the chorus that goes "Don't need doubles and bubbles to get in all kinds of trouble out in the country" is pure ear-candy.

Lady A is not in a position where country radio will just pick up a song of theirs by themselves...
