I mean, not to belittle her complaint here, as it is definitely a valid issue when somebody tries to take the brand upon which you built your career... But, this group has effectively always been "Lady A" in the eyes of their fans and the mainstream music industry. Did she have a problem with fans and media regularly referring to them as "Lady A" for their entire career up to this point? I mean, it's pretty much a guarantee that this locally-known Lady A artist can attribute a significant portion of any random people stumbling across her music in the last decade-plus to the fact that there was a popular and wildly successful country group named Lady Antebellum that had everybody searching for the name "Lady A" Edit: I’m not accusing her of anything or saying I disagree with her complaint. I’m just legit curious why this wasn’t an issue before! It seems pretty unlikely that she wouldn’t have heard of them, lol.

Anyone else notice how this one has started to struggle recently since they announced the name change? I get why they did it and good on them for making a move like that, but it seems to have possibly impacted the single. I've noticed its iTunes performance in the daily updates has been dropping after it was initially selling really well, and its gains have slowed up on radio after a pretty hot start. I'm hoping things normalize soon, because I'd be surprised if this one wasn't still a hit in the end because it was clearly connecting, but the slowdown admittedly concerns me a bit.

I don’t keep up with them super closely, but I thought the song was still moving along pretty well, so I was a little taken aback by today’s update. I will be so annoyed if all the “they just ruined their career” and “they’re the next Dixie Chicks” people are actually making a dent.

I'm also wondering if there is a final resolution on the name thing, because as last I saw, they posted that they had a conversation with the solo artist Lady A, and more information would be coming. I'm not sure what the final outcome about their name is. On another note, it appears that the Dixie Chicks may have also changed their name, to 'The Chicks'.

Maybe it has to do with the radio survey that went out, I think they sent a couple of them on this song. I personally don't like the song, it sounds a lot like Rich to me which I feel was a far superior song

I also was thinking it might be dropping in sales because maybe some people are not aware of the name change and thus not looking for 'Lady A'. It's taken a noticeable hit on iTunes and I could see that being a factor more than people not buying it because they're upset about the change. It was just something I couldn't help but notice lately.

It was just something I couldn't help but notice lately. I hadn’t even thought of that, sometimes I forget what it’s like to be a regular radio listener. Hopefully that’s the bigger issue. Looking a little closer, iTunes only lists “Champagne Night” under the name Lady A, with everything else still listed under Lady Antebellum. And unless you actually search for “Champagne Night” it’s fairly difficult to find under either name.

I don’t know if they’re still deciding on what to do about the name change, but I think it would be helpful for them to promote the change via performances (like late night shows and TV specials) and quick radio clips to get the news out. I’d hate for this to be the downfall of what was looking to be a pretty big hit just a few weeks ago...

I mean yeah this song has had a rough go this past week or so, but this song is still young enough, and I could easily see the gains this song having be a total fluke.

The optimist in me thinks it's just the general public having not paid attention to the name change and thus searching for "lady antebellum" and not "lady a" and that's a problem that can easily be changed by a few performances of this song on the morning/daytime/late night circuits, as well as having radio programmers go and say something after the song spins, something like "that was "Champagne Night," the latest from Lady A! Remember, that's now the official name for Lady Antebellum; they have dropped Antebellum from their name due to the word's connection with slavery. So when you're searching for something from them to listen to, maybe even this song, looking to add them into your playlists, make sure you just search for Lady A."
The pessimist in me thinks this drop is because of country radio's strict conservativeness and that executives are being purely petty. The optimist in me hopes and prays that isn't true.

Their going to be hitting the Christian charts soon as their song with Chris Tomlin from his upcoming duets album was chosen as the first single to Christian radio. It’s a great song too!

Becomes their 21st Top 30 hit on country radio moving up 4 spots to #28 on Mediabase with a bullet of 63. I imagine with this song being in the Top 30 in just under 3 months pretty much answers how country radio feels about this song.

I’m glad to see this doing relatively well, but I’m still a little bummed that they dropped What I’m Leaving For for this. I can see why they did it, but there are several great songs on Ocean that I like more than this that I would have loved to have been released. Champagne Night is growing on me though, and I’m interested to see gore far it goes. I’m hoping for at least top ten, which should be very doable!

Initially, I wasn’t sure what was going to end up happening because of the band having their trademark for such a long time now. Whenever the band Lady A spoke to the blues singer, I thought they had everything settled in terms of things being fine, and it appears that after the fact the blues singer wants 10 million dollars. Interesting.

Jeez, what a mess. I of course don’t speak for all black Americans, and while I appreciate the sentiment of their decision to change their name, it didn’t change my opinion of them(for better or for worse). They also should’ve been more prepared for a situation like this(Their lawyers could’ve done some due diligence). The group comes across as decent people, so it would be unfortunate for this to turn into a controversy.

What a mess this whole name change turned out to be. How unfortunate that it came to this. But the band has been informally going by Lady A since the beginning, and they registered it as a trademark a decade ago per the above article. The blues singer never contested anything until last month when they made the name switch more than just a nickname. There's no way this was brand new information to her and the demand of $10 million suggests she's really just looking for a payout. All so needlessly messy.

I just made the mistake of looking at Lady Antebellum on Twitter before seeing it was already posted here and Twitter is tearing Lady A (band) to shreds. It is a sight to see

I know this is a country board, and I know people here like Lady A...but, while they may be legally in the right....this is really dumb. And preface this by saying, going by a name informally and formally is very different, anyways. 1) They/their management did not do their homework to see if another artist was formally using Lady A 2) They then thought they had an agreement, she apparently did not think so 3) when they failed to come to an agreement, they are then suing her, which might be the most tone deaf move in the bands history, even beyond the Lady Antebellum name. or to borrow a headline:
"Lady A changed their name for racial sensitivity, now they're suing the Black singer who already used it"
Was 10mil an exorbitant demand? yeah....but my guess is she was hoping they'd just drop the name, and didn't think they'd be this dumb. She never really seemed that interested in formally sharing it. Turns out though, they are this dumb.

If you had me rank every country act I could on a scale of “likely to get ‘cancelled’ on Twitter” to “least likely to get ‘cancelled’ on Twitter” Lady A would’ve been one of my least likely. I really like them and feel as thought they are genuinely great people. What a mess.

Actually Women want more on twitter made a great point? Why on earth are they suing? They could have just ignored her. They legally own the right to the name, what are they hoping to gain?

Yikes, what an unfortunate turn of events. I don’t think suing is a good look for them, but I don’t know what went on behind the scenes so...
Ultimately cancel culture is getting less and less effective by the day so I’m not worried about the Twitter echo chamber doing any real damage to their career.

I kinda wonder if after they had the heart to heart and she started trying to money grab, they should have just ignored her. She had like 10 monthly listens on streaming apps. It isn’t like they tried to change their name to Train or Lady Aerosmith. Just ignore her - suing her does look bad, even if I’m on their side.

This is really low. They probably know she doesn't have the financial situation to fight or countersue so this is how they win. And it being against a black woman when the name change was for BLM? Hypocrites. 😔 (Edit: I just scrolled Twitter and saw my last comment was pretty much every tweet on the site, sorry for beating a dead horse!)

I was going to ask if anyone thinks all this negative press will lead to country radio not playing this song but then I remembered that country radio still supports the latest singles from Chase Rice and Chris Janson despite having tightly packed music concerts despite a pandemic.
